Chapter Text

“What do you think they’re talking about?” Jimin questions later. It’s been nearly an hour since their announcement. An hour since they told the world they’re getting married. An hour since his father showed up and tried to ruin things again. An hour since his father and the Summer King went to talk.

He wonders how much longer it will be.

Jimin is laying down on the bed, arms thrown over his head as he stares up at the golden ceiling decorated with a chandelier hanging down. It’s a beautiful piece of lighting, brings the entire room together. Did Yoongi pick it? Or did it come with the room when it was originally built? Did Yoongi design anything in his room?

Yoongi is pacing the room by the window, steps moving back and forth, back and forth as he also awaits someone to come and inform them if they can come out and see the Kings or not. It’s a game of waiting. One that neither of them are starting to like.

“I’m not sure honestly. It could be a number of things.” Yoongi shrugs. He stops pacing, instead walks over to the bed and lays down on it pulling Jimin close to him. Jimin feels comfortable in his arms, happy in this spot. It’s where he belongs. “I just hope everything goes well. I can’t lose you a second time.”

Jimin flips over to face him. He stretches out a hand and brushes Yoongi’s cheek. “You won’t. Even if I have to sneak from the Winter Kingdom every day to see you, I would.” His lips curl into a smile as he leans up and presses a kiss to Yoongi’s lips. “I love you, Yoongi. We won’t be separated again. I promise.”

Yoongi nods and takes Jimin’s right hand into his own. “I love you too.”

“Pardon me, Your Highness, but I come with news.” A voice startles from the door. Both Yoongi and Jimin turn to it annoyed. Of course someone would come and ruin the moment. It isn’t a surprise.

Jimin can’t help the rumble of laughter that bubbles from his stomach as Yoongi crawls off the bed and walks over to the door to open. He had just gotten comfortable too.

“Jeongguk, why are you calling me—“ Yoongi begins as he opens the door but slowly he cuts himself off. Jimin sits up at that, confused by that and looks towards the door. His eyes widen when he spots the reason.

“King Daehee, Father, what brings you two here?” Jimin gets out the bed and stands next to Yoongi. He fixes his hair, adjusts his vest, and clears his throat to look somewhat decent for being in their presence.

The Summer King smiles at the two of them, “Daehee and I have discussed a few things, and upon our discussion, your father has decided to stay here a few days and observe things.”

“Wait...what?” Jimin and Yoongi exchange a look of confusion. “Excuse me, but… father, you’re staying here? As in, another Kingdom? For a few days? Am I hearing this right?”

The Winter King nods his head, “Yes, I was offered a room to stay here a few days and observe you and Yoongi. I’ll come to a final decision based on that. Do not mind me though. Most times I’ll be with the King anyways.”

“Right…” Jimin inhales a breath and nibbles on his bottom lip.

How was this going to go? How did the Summer King even manage to convince his father to stay here to begin with. He hated everything to do with the Summer Kingdom, he didn’t even like the King himself and now…

What exactly did they talk about?

“You two are free to leave your room and go wherever you’d like now.” The Summer King says. There’s a smile on his face as he and Daehee turn to leave. “Do remember we have dinner in a few hours though. So I do recommend you don’t go anywhere extreme should you leave the castle.”

“We won’t.” Yoongi promises.

They watch as the Summer King and Winter King leave, leaving the three of them in complete shock and surprise. What exactly just happened there? Was Jimin perhaps dreaming? He is a bit tired but that couldn’t be it, could it? This surely felt real even just a little.

“I don’t know how my father convinced your father to stay here,” Yoongi begins as he walks back into the room. Jimin follows after and so does Jeongguk who closes the door behind all three of them. He takes a seat at the table beside the window. A place where Jimin and Yoongi had the luxury of eating breakfast together this morning. “But I have a feeling it’s going to lead to good things. We’re just going to have to hope that we’re right.”

“If I may add something without getting in trouble for eavesdropping, I may have some information about their discussion.” Jeongguk adds. He looks from the window to the two of them with a small smile. “May I?”

“I’m not even going to ask why you were eavesdropping to begin with, so sure go ahead.” Yoongi plops down on his bed, faces Jeongguk and stares. Jimin follows suit, curiosity getting the better of him though he knows he shouldn’t be curious. Technically their conversation shouldn’t matter to him, but he can’t help but be curious.

“The Summer King and the Winter King talked about their past for a while. About everything that happened between them when they were still Princes and the Summer King asked if they could put that behind them.” Jeongguk begins. He leans against the palm of his hand as he recalls their conversation.

That much doesn’t surprise Jimin. He has a feeling that if he were in that situation he would also ask to put the past behind them. There’s no point in lingering on the past when the future is so bright.

Maybe Jimin can’t say that though since he always lingered on the past. On Yoongi. But now he has him again and their future is extremely bright. He’s sure of it.

“What else happened?” Yoongi asks. He leans his elbows on his knees and moves forward, eager to hear whatever else that Jeongguk has to say.

“The Summer King began talking about the Kingdoms and how he wants to reopen the borders. And at first the Winter King wasn’t happy about it until your father mentioned that they would put the past behind them which meant reopening the borders.”

Jimin lights up, “Does that mean he agreed to opening them?” He beams with almost pride. It would be complete if he knew the answer was yes, but from the way Jeongguk takes a moment to answer he can only assume he hasn’t necessarily budged on the topic.

“Your father said he would think about it. There’s no guarantee that he’ll open them up once more. All we can do is hope for the time being.” Jeongguk purses his lips as Jimin deflates on his spot. How much more thinking needs to be done for him to decide whether to open them or not. “Then there’s the topic of you two.”

“What about us?” Jimin tilts his head to the side. Does he want to know what they talked about? Does he want to know what his father thinks? He does know his father isn’t happy about it, but… did anything change since their conversation?

“At first, your father — the Winter King — wasn’t happy. But we all expected that much. He fought against the Summer King on it and told him he forbade it.” Jeongguk sighs, “But then the Summer King asked him if he wanted to see you happy, if he wanted you to be with who you loved because in the past he couldn’t.”

“My father said the Winter King would be here to observe us. What does that mean?” Yoongi questions. He pushes himself up from where he was leaning on his elbows and crosses his arms over his chest.

“It means that he still hasn’t decided whether or not he’s okay with you two being together. So he’ll watch you two and see how you two work.” Jeongguk shrugs and stands up from the table. “I’m assuming if everything goes well then maybe your wedding will come just like you two want.”

Jimin and Yoongi exchange looks. However the King sees them will determine whether they can be together or not? Jimin sighs. That sounds exhausting. They probably won’t even know when he’s around to see them.

What if he still decides no?

“That’s about all their conversation consisted of before they came here. If I remember right your father leaves in three days, and he’ll have a decision by then.” Jeongguk walks towards the door. “But don’t worry, he won’t split you up. I already know it.”

Jimin sighs.

He hopes not.

—☆彡—

Day one of having his father in the Summer Kingdom consists of them going around the city to meet and greet a lot of the citizens. The majority of the people boast about the fact that both Prince Yoongi and Prince Jimin have come to visit, and they flower them in gifts and actual flowers. Jimin feels in awe at such gifts.

They’re able to meet some of the younger children, kids who strive to become great one day. Players of sports, of musical instruments. Yoongi even showed one kid how to play a song on the piano. Jimin felt his heart burst at that. Seeing him around kids, so soft and sweet and playing a song made him melt. It made him fall for the elder even more.

They were able to see more of the music that everyone in the Summer Kingdom loved, learned traditional dances and Jimin even got Yoongi to dance for him. (Though it took convincing with eighteen kisses)

And then to celebrate and finish the night, they were introduced to a lot of Summer Kingdom dishes, wines and desserts and also got the chance to share and bear stories. Both from Yoongi and his father about the Summer Kingdom and from the Queen about her time in the Winter Kingdom.

It was actually nice to hear that the Queen and Jimin’s father were around the same age. Even though they didn’t know each other at the time it’s interesting to hear about the different ways they both grew up. While his father was born into a line of royalty, the Queen was not.

Day two of his father staying at the Summer Kingdom is a bit different. Unlike going out in the town to see everything once again, or meeting the citizens of the Kingdom, the Summer King ends up inviting them all for a relaxing day at the pool.

At first, Jimin was surprised to hear that  his father had accepted such an invitation. That is, until he learned later on that his father used to absolutely love swimming when he was younger. Maybe that’s where Jimin gets it from.

Though his father enjoys time relaxing in the pool and potentially getting a tan from the beautiful golden sun, Yoongi and Jimin spend their time splashing each other, jumping into the pool, and getting everything wet all while laughing, giggling and having a good time. Even Taehyung, Hoseok, and the others came to join. And from the way Hoseok and Taehyung stayed close to each other, Jimin knew something was going to happen between them.

He could feel it.

It’s fun being able to spend time with his friends and his boyfriend — fiancé — whichever the two of them decided they wanted to use. There was no need to worry about lessons, or meetings, or anything Princely. For right now, he was just Jimin, someone who enjoyed swimming in the pool. And Yoongi was just Yoongi, someone who enjoyed splashing everyone in the pool. They were just two people in love.

Not a care in the world related to being a Prince.

Jimin hopes these days can happen more often.

The third day of his father’s visit is quite different. There’s nothing planned that day. The Summer King has business of his own to attend, and both Jimin and Yoongi have lessons. Even though he isn’t back in the Winter Kingdom to resume his own, Seokjin has taken it upon himself to educate him so he doesn’t fall behind.

Though, the two of them are learning completely different things so it doesn’t exactly turn out as planned.

Ultimately, Jimin decides to leave Seokjin and Yoongi to finish his lesson and walks out to the garden. It shouldn’t take much longer for the two of them anyways so Yoongi can meet him there when he’s done.

It’s quiet out here. Peaceful as he takes a seat on the bench and admires all the wonderful colours of the flowers. Roses, and tulips and hyacinths. Flowers he’s never heard the name of before but now loves. Could these grow in the Winter Kingdom? Or would they wither and die?

If the borders open, maybe he won’t have to worry about that.

“Jimin.” The Prince turns from the flowers and finds his gaze landing on his father. He makes a move to stand up and greet him, but before he can, his father motions him to sit down again. It’s surprising that he decides to do that but Jimin doesn’t comment on it. Instead, he watches as his father cuts across the garden, following the small path that was created and takes a seat on the other side of the bench. “I was hoping to find you somewhere without Yoongi.”

“Did you need me for something?” He asks. His head tilts to the side, as he turns towards his father. His forehead is creased, wrinkles sitting in confusion as well. What did his father want him for?

“I leave for the Winter Kingdom again today, so I wanted to discuss with you my decision.” The King cups his hands together and looks out towards the garden. “Never in my life did I think I’d reopen the borders. Never did I think I’d see the beauty of the Summer Kingdom again. Never did I think that you would be the reason things changed.”

Jimin hums, “What do you mean?”

“Prince Yoongi, you really love him, don’t you?” Jimin nods his head immediately. “It reminds me of how I felt towards the Summer King, and he’s right. I can’t let what I wanted but never got, prevent you from doing the same.”

Jimin’s eyes widen, “Does that mean—“

“It means I permit you two to be together, yes.” The King interrupts before Jimin can finish his question. “But I do ask you a favour.”

“What is it?”

“Don’t rush into your marriage. You’re both still young. The only reason you proposed it was to make me open the borders.” The King looks towards Jimin again, “So I’ll make you a deal. I’ll reopen the borders if you don’t get married yet. You two can be together all you want, as lovers, boyfriends, whatever the term is. But don’t get married yet. Not until you two are officially ready. Okay?”

Jimin can’t help but stand up in shock, hand claps over his mouth as his eyes squint until they disappear. “A-are you serious? You’ll open the borders?”

“Only if you agree not to get married until you and Yoongi are ready.”

It reminds him of what Yoongi said when the idea was proposed a few days ago. That they would only get married to convince Jimin’s father to open the borders, and then one day when they’re officially ready they would get married for real.

Yet now, they don’t have to worry about that. They can love each other, know each other as boyfriends, and then one day they’ll get married. It’s perfect.

Too perfect, and Jimin loves it.

He nods his head immediately.

They did it. They convinced his father.

The borders are being reopened.

And he gets to be with Yoongi forever.

—☆彡—

Jimin lets out a shaky breath, watches as his breath flies in the air until it disappears. It’s cold. But it always is.

In a Kingdom where it’s always cold, always full of snow, Prince Jimin, at the age of twenty, has changed it for good. A place that was once closed in on itself by his father, the King, is now reopening its borders for the very first time today.

He couldn’t be more proud of himself.

Beside him, his best friend Taehyung and his companion Jasper the penguin stand. It’s been three weeks since everything was decided. Three weeks since the Winter King decided to reopen the borders and while Jimin had been super excited then, there were things that still needed to be discussed before anything could happen.

Yet now, it was time.

There’s a crowd of people behind him. Citizens anxious yet excited to be heading to the Summer Kingdom without consequence. And Jimin is excited to be leading them.

Taehyung takes his hand into his own and squeezes. An act of encouragement as Jimin inhales a breath.

“Is everyone ready?” He calls. His voice is loud, powerful. Everything he needs since he’s not facing his people but the border connecting the Winter and Summer Kingdoms. The cheers and cries he hears from the crowd is enough for him to know they all heard him.

“It’s time,” Taehyung whispers. Jimin nods his head as he takes the first step.

Then another.

And another until he’s walking straight towards the Summer Kingdom and the crowd of people is following behind him.

He knows how exciting this is. Knows that everyone is ready to enjoy the different seasons once again. To go swimming, enjoy new food, see the flowers and the sun.

But Jimin is excited for another reason.

It’s easy to spot him amongst a big crowd. And it’s not because he’s leading it, but because he loves him and he’d notice him anywhere.

Jimin smiles brightly, eyes twinkling when the colour of Yoongi’s hair catches his vision. His heart gallops in his chest as his legs urge to run towards him.

Taehyung lets go of his hand then as Yoongi begins walking forward faster. Jimin’s own pace picks up as he runs into his arms and hugs him so tightly he worries it might hurt. Yoongi wouldn’t say if it did or not.

“Hi baby.” Yoongi whispers as he picks him up and swings him around. Jimin giggles as he kisses the elder’s nose.

They turn to face the others. Watch as people greet each other, as some old friends hug once again. Watch as Taehyung runs into Hoseok’s arms and holds him tightly.

There’s happiness all around. A warmth that settles the cold between their two Kingdoms. A season of love that will forever carry on.

Jimin smiles as he leans up and kisses Yoongi once more. “This was all us.” He murmurs. “We did this.”

Yoongi nods, beams as he says, “Yes. Yes, we did.”
