Chapter Text

Jimin wrings his hands nervously. The entire house smelled amazing. He and Kibum had spent most of the morning cooking. Jinyoung had stopped by after his classes to help them and Taemin and Jongin had been fluttering by eating what little food they could steal before Kibum smacked them. Jinki, Minho, and Jonghyun had arrived not long after Kibum had started making desert. He’d convinced Seokjin, just barely, that he wanted to prepare the dinner himself since Jinki was offering up his house for them to have their first formal meeting in. While Jimin had managed to get Seokjin to allow him to do it himself Kibum could not be swayed.

“Yah! Taemin I swear if you take one more thing off of this table, I’ll murder you myself!” Kibum smacks at Taemin and the younger man cackles before grabbing a hot cookie off of the table and darting from the room. A fork from the table hits the closing door with a clatter behind him. Kibum huffs in irritation and snatches it up off the floor before returning to the kitchen for a clean fork to replace the one he’d thrown. “I swear one of these days I’m going to kill him and no one will ever find his body! Stupid brat.”

Jimin giggles softly, feeling a bit of the tension leave his body at Kibum and Taemin’s bickering. That had seemingly never changed and likely never would. As much as Kibum liked to pretend he hated Taemin, he also loved all of them dearly and mothered them constantly. Kibum knew how important tonight was to Jimin and would ensure that nothing bad happens. Jimin could at least trust that Kibum would keep the rest of the boys in check, especially his older brother. “You look nervous.” Jinyoung settles in the seat beside him and offers him a cup of tea. Jimin takes it thankfully and nods slightly.

“It’s silly to be this nervous, I know.” Jimin takes a deep breath and releases it harshly through his nose trying to dissipate the nervous energy that has settled in his gut. “I know it will go well. I know they’ll love you guys so much and that you guys will accept them because being friends with them makes me happy. I don’t know why I’m so nervous. It’s like taking your boyfriend to meet your parents for the first time but like multiplied by seven.”

“I...I don’t want to say I understand because I never had to introduce Bummie to you guys but I’d like to think that maybe I understand trying to dispel preconceived notions about the others fairly well. Bummie and I always had to explain to our friends that the others weren’t like what everyone made them out to be. It’s hard but if they care, your friends, they’ll accept us for who we are and not who they think we are.”

“And what about hyung meeting Jungkookie for the first time?”

“Ah, well that can’t be helped.” Jinyoung squeezes Jimin’s arm as Kibum ruffles his hair and settles in on his other side. “You are his baby brother after all, and he’s never met your boyfriend before so, in that sense, you really are bringing your boyfriend home for the first time.”

Kibum laughs softly and drinks his drink when Jimin’s eyes go wide in worry. “He wouldn’t dare to do anything, would he?! I’ll kill him! If he so much as gives bun a hard time I’ll murder him myself.” Kibum cackles at Jimin's affronted tone and steals a sip of Jimin’s tea. “I’m serious! Hyung! Taemin-hyung!” Jimin stands from his chair and enters the living room where the rest of the boys were gathered together messing around with one of the gaming consoles Jinki owned.

Taemin turns his head sharply toward Jimin before turning it back toward the screen when Jongin elbows him to pay attention because Jinki just shot Taemin’s character with a sniper. “Yeah Jiji?” Taemin whoops when he takes Jinki out before moving to start shooting at Minho who’s trying to kill Jongin. Jongin screeches loudly and leans into Minho’s lap trying to get the older man to mess up. Minho pushes the other boy back with a grunt.

“You don’t plan on trying to intimidate Jungkook, right?”

All the boys turn to face Jimin recognizing the baby’s murder tone clearly. Taemin gulps visibly and turns to fully face Jimin as Jongin slides away from his friend in favor of saving his own ass. “Of course, not Jiji. If he makes you happy, hyung is happy. I wouldn’t dare try to scare him.” Taemin pulls guiltily at his collar and Jimin knew the older man had fully intended to intimidate his boyfriend. He deserved to be scared of Jimin. Jimin was truly terrifying. They thought he was bad when they were just children but adult Jimin was an entirely different thing.

“Good because Bun is a soft baby.” Jimin offers Taemin his most dazzling smile. It does nothing to soothe the anxiety in the older boy's chest. It was by no means a calm smile. Taemin was sure that if he disobeyed Jimin at any point his brother would not hesitate to put him six feet under. “If you were to have made him cry, I would maim you. Understood? That goes for any of you.”

The boys shrink under Jimin’s impressive stare and each one nods slowly in acceptance of their youngest’s threats. They knew better than to push Jimin. He’d always had an impressive temper and as he’d gotten older that temper became more terrifying than when they were kids. None of them wanted to be on the receiving end of it after seeing their little baby go off on a handsy asshole at the grocery store a few days ago. Taemin had recounted the story in detail when he said that Jimin had almost broken the guy’s arm when he’d tried to grab him. Jungkook had lamented for hours that he wished he had been there to see how hot Jimin looked. Taehyung had gagged at them and taken his ice cream to another room in spite.

The doorbell rings, saving Taemin from further experiencing how scary his younger brother can be. Jimin is instantly out of the room and toward the door. He nearly slips on the rug but Kibum catches him under the arm with a laugh and helps him to stand properly once more. “Calm down Minie. It’ll be alright.” Kibum reaches up and fixes Jimin’s hair before reaching out and opening the door for Jimin’s friends. Jungkook is standing nervously behind Seokjin and Namjoon. There is a dish in Seokjin’s hand and he’s smiling vibrantly. He pulls Jimin into a tight hug when Kibum takes the proffered dish.

“I know you said I didn’t have to make anything, but I couldn’t dare come empty-handed.” Kibum laughs and walks toward the kitchen where the rest of the food was prepared and waiting for them to be able to eat. Jimin moves to the side and motions for the others to come in. Namjoon ruffles his hair as he passes, and Taehyung wraps him in the tightest hug physically possible. Jungkook glances back into the hallway nervously before leaning down and pressing a warm kiss to Jimin’s lips in greeting. Jungkook’s hands were stiffly gripping onto hips, showcasing just how nervous he really was. It was endearing how much Jungkook wanted to make a good impression on Jimin’s hyungs.

            “Hey, baby.”

            “Hey, bun. How was class?”

            “It was alright.”

Just as Jungkook pulls himself away from Jimin, Yoongi and Hoseok pull up. Jimin waits patiently and isn’t disappointed when Yoongi ruffles his hair in greeting and Hobi pulls him into a breathtaking hug. When they’ve all stripped themselves out of their jackets and shoes, Jimin nervously leads them toward the sitting room where he can hear shouting once more.  Jimin is almost nervous to open the door to what he’s sure is an argument about the game once more. Taking a deep breath, he opens the door revealing the chaos that was currently taking place.

Taemin is screeching bloody murder while trying to suffocate Minho with a pillow and Jongin is rolling around on the floor with Jinki shouting about cheating while Sehun cheers him on from the sidelines. Jinyoung is cackling from the sofa and occasionally kicking at Jongin to get him to topple off of Jinki. Jaebum is trying desperately to not get swept up in Jinki and Jongin’s fistfight while dodging Minho’s flailing limbs. Jonghyun is shouting at Taemin trying to get the pillow from him as Minho nearly punches him. Jimin stops short and feels anger settle at the base of his spine. Of course, he couldn’t leave them alone for five seconds.

            “Hyung.”

Jimin shrugs off Jungkook’s hands and steps into the fray grabbing both Jongin and Taemin by the backs of the shirts and tugging harshly forcing them both onto their asses. Minho gasps in a gulp of air as Jonghyun laughs softly at his side. From the corner of his eyes, he can see Jungkook’s worried face change quickly to something a bit more surprised. Jimin knows that look. If he wasn’t so angry, he’d tease Jungkook for finding him manhandling his hyungs hot. “All I asked was for one night! ONE NIGHT! I swear I will murder you both!” Jongin and Taemin curl in on themselves.

            “But Minie they cheated!”

            “Yeah, Jiji they cheated!”

Jimin rolls his eyes and crosses his arms over his chest tapping his foot impatiently. “I don’t care. Look what my friends just had to come into! You were trying to smother hyung! Do you have anything to say for yourselves? You better apologize to the hyungs right now Lee Taemin and Kim Jongin!” Taemin and Jongin are both instantly clamoring to hug Jimin and beg forgiveness. From the corner of his eye, he can see Taehyung and Jungkook snickering behind their hands, and Seokjin looking surprised. In their friend group, Jimin was a shy little baby that thrived off of affection now that he spent more time with them. This side of himself was reserved only for his hyungs...mostly his brother.

“I’m sorry Jiji.” Taemin tugs childishly on Jimin’s shirt despite the pointed glare Jimin was pinning him with. The older boy gulps and turns his head toward their older hyung when Jimin’s eyes flicker to him. “I’m sorry for trying to smother you, Minho-hyung.”

Jimin clears his throat and gives Jongin that very same pointed stare. Jongin pouts. “I’m sorry Minie. I’m sorry for hitting you Jinki-hyung even though you cheated and deserved it.” Jimin’s hand is quick as it reaches down and starts tugging incessantly at Jongin’s ear. Jongin screeches in pain and flails a bit before Jimin releases him with a huff. “Fine. Sorry.”

Jimin’s eyes curve happily into crescents and he flashes the most dazzling smile physically possible. The transition from anger to angelic happiness is truly disconcerting. Kibum chooses that moment to push the door between the living room and dining room open. There is a certain glint in his eyes that told Jimin that he knew exactly what was going on and approved of Jimin’s actions. “The food is ready. If you are finished being children, we can join our guests at the table.” There was a clear threat in Kibum’s words that had all of Jimin’s hyungs scrambling to get their footing.

Jimin watches as his hyungs allow Seokjin, Namjoon, Yoongi, Hoseok, and Taehyung to pass by in front of them. They turn their gaze toward Jimin just as Jungkook wraps his arms around his waist from behind. Taemin narrows his eyes but allows Kibum to push him through the door to give Jimin some privacy before they enter the dining room to eat. Jungkook nuzzles slightly behind Jimin’s ear before pressing a gentle kiss to the skin there. Jungkook’s hands find the small of his back as Jimin turns in his hold to look up at him. His fingers nervously rub up and down Jimin’s back catching on the edge of his shirt every few circuits.

“You look beautiful today.” Jimin chuckles softly as Jungkook leans forward to place several quick butterfly kisses on his lip. Jungkook’s hands stop their circuit to squeeze Jimin a bit tighter to his chest. When he speaks again his voice is a soft throaty tone that Jimin adores. Jimin also knew exactly what the younger was doing. While he likely genuinely meant the compliment, he also was terrified of being in an enclosed space with Jimin’s hyungs. “Can’t take my eyes off of you baby.”

“Complimenting me won’t get you out of going in there and facing the fire.” Jungkook sighs and his eyes instantly go wide like a puppy’s. His lips quirk pitifully, and his fingers flex teasingly on Jimin’s hips. “Nope. Not gonna work this time, bun. You’ve gotta meet them at some point. Don’t worry, nothing will happen.”

“You threatened them already, didn’t you?”

            “Perhaps.”

Jungkook laughs softly before dipping down to press another kiss to Jimin’s lips. This was Jimin’s favorite part of their budding relationship. The others found it absolutely sickening how sweet they were when they were together. Jungkook had no qualms showering Jimin in the affection he clearly thrives off of. Sometimes they’re so far into their own little world that they forget there are even other people around them. They’d gotten kicked out of three movie nights so far for giggling and kissing too much during the movie.

“I guess I really have no way out do I?”

            “Nope. Not at all.”

Jungkook sighs softly and pulls himself away from Jimin as if it physically pained him to do so. It very well might have. It was rare that they were together without touching one another in some way. They were totally that couple and Jimin loved every moment of it. Jimin catches Jungkook’s hand in his own, stopping the younger from pulling away entirely. When Jungkook takes a half step backward to meet Jimin’s gaze questioningly. Jimin smiles softly before stretching up and placing a soft, fluttering kiss on Jungkook’s chin.

When they walk into the dining room, the table is already loaded with food and Seokjin is chatting happily with Kibum near the top of the table. Jimin notices that the two groups were fairly integrated with one another which was a step in the right direction. Hobi was sandwiched between Jongin and Kibun across from Taemin and Sehun. The four dancers are talking animatedly about dance at the other end of the table. Namjoon and Jinki are talking about their favorite books and comparing notes on them. Yoongi and Jonghyun have their heads bowed toward one another on the opposite side of the table from Namjoon and Jinki. Jimin could only guess that the two music lovers were in a deep discussion about music production. There are two open seats left beside Yoongi, obviously for Jimin and Jungkook. He is almost positive that they would have made Jungkook sit across from Jimin if he wouldn’t have threatened them.

To the left of their seat is Minho and across from them sits Jinyoung, Jaebum, and Taehyung. Jinyoung and Jaebum are leaning into one another comfortably while Taehyung and Minho chat animatedly. Jimin did not doubt at all that those two would get along. They both had that quality that made others instantly like you. Jimin couldn’t really put it into words. He pointedly ignores the way his hyungs watch them sit down. Kibum raises an eyebrow in approval when Jungkook pulls Jimin's chair out for him to sit and then slides it in toward the table before taking his own seat. Taemin makes a face when Jimin leans into Jungkook placing his hand on the younger’s thigh comfortingly. With one glare from Jimin, the look is gone.

“Alright! Eat up!” Kibum claps his hands sharply and no one moves for a long moment. None of them wanted to appear overeager or impolite. Jimin snorts lightly before reaching out and grabbing some chicken to place on his plate. That gets everyone else into motion as they all reach and plate the food that they liked from the table. Kibum had truly helped Jimin cook a massive amount of food but it was probably a good thing with how much they all could eat. “Don’t be shy, eat up!”

For a few minutes, the table's occupants are silent as the clattering of plates and bowls rises around them. When they all seem to be settling down to eat they begin talking once more. It’s a little awkward and stilted but eventually, they seem to loosen up a bit and talk a bit more comfortably. Jimin squeezes Jungkook’s thigh comfortingly when the younger begins bouncing his foot restlessly. It was a nervous habit the man had. Jungkook glances down at him with wide nervous eyes. Jimin smiles serenely up at the younger hoping to make him more at ease. It seems to do the trick as Jungkook’s face practically melts into an adoring smile to match Jimin’s. Without thinking, Jungkook leans forward and presses a teasing little kiss to the tip of Jimin’s nose and then freezes up when he realizes what he just did in front of all of Jimin’s hyungs.

Jimin can practically feel the panicked embarrassment building in the younger man like a volcano ready to erupt. His ears were beginning to turn red. Ignoring the glare from Taemin and the look of grudging acceptance from Taehyung, Jimin rubs their noses together. It effectively brings Jungkook’s focus back to him and settles a bit of the panic in the younger. Jimin smiles brightly until his eyes pull into crescents and his head tilts slightly. When he flutters his eyes open, he can see the nose scrunching smile that Jungkook reserves solely for him fading from the younger’s face.

“You two are disgusting.” Taehyung rolls his eyes and pops a piece of a dinner roll into his mouth. His lips are tilted up in a playful smile belying the teasing behind his words. “This is why we can’t have nice things. I swear the minute you’re within the same vicinity you both forget anything else around you. It’s disgusting. Some of us are single, you know."

A long, dragging moment of silence settles across the table as a whole. Taehyung continues to pick apart his dinner roll, occasionally glancing at Jimin and Jungkook and rolling his eyes once more. Taehyung certainly bore the brunt of their affection so Jimin couldn't blame him for being the most fed up with their honeymoon phase. Jimin giggles softly at first before he cracks and breaks into a peal of bright laughter falling sideways into Jungkook who naturally wraps a steadying arm around his back. They all knew his tendency to fall over when he laughs. Jungkook chuckles beside him after a few moments and then everyone else at the table begins speaking.

“You know, he’s not wrong.” Jinyoung points his glass at them with a look in his eyes. “Even Bummie and I weren’t that bad when we got together.”

            “This is all the time?”

Jonghyun directs the question to Yoongi who nods with the most suffering look Jimin had seen yet on the older man’s face. “All the fucking time. We can’t even get through one movie night without them sucking face.” Jimin is pretty sure Taemin’s eyes are going to fall out of his head if they open any wider. It’s comical how shocked he is that Jimin actually does things with his boyfriend.

“Yeah, the last time we had movie night we were literally at Jungkook’s place!” Seokjin takes a deep breath and exhales as if he is personally attacked. It’s not like Jimin and Jungkook kicked them out. They just...didn’t finish the movie with them. “We’re in the middle of the new Avengers movie and one minute they are on the sofa across from us giggling like schoolgirls and the next they're gone!”

“I have never left an apartment faster in my life.”

“We thought for sure Kook would at least pay attention. It’s Avengers!” Namjoon’s voice isn’t as affronted as Seokjin’s or as disgusted as Taehyung's but all the same it feels insulting. Jimin almost hates that his friend groups are meeting. Somehow it turned into a slaughter of Jimin and Jungkook’s character and Jimin does not accept blasphemy at his table. He and Jungkook are adorable as hell. Everyone tells them that they are ‘couple goals’ on campus. “He is the biggest Marvel nerd I have ever met and even Avengers couldn’t keep his focus away from Jimin.”

“I...they were…” Jonghyun pats Taemin on the back as Jimin’s brother has a mental breakdown at the thought of his baby brother having sex. The fact that Taemin still thought Jimin was a virgin is actually laughable. Jimin enjoys every moment of mental crumbling his brother goes through in the span of a few minutes. “You deflowered my baby brother!”

Jimin snorts out a weird sound before cackling loudly and falling entirely into Jungkook who holds up his weight without a thought as he shoves another bite of food into his mouth trying valiantly to ignore the fact that their sex life was being discussed at the dinner table. “Deflowered!” Jimin begins giggling wildly once again as tears spring into his eyes. Of all the phrases to use. “Sorry to inform you, hyung, but you’ll have to take that argument up with the boy from my dance team in high school at some random party. I’m sure you’ll find him somewhere.”

Jimin leans a bit more into Jungkook to catch his breath after laughing so much. He rights himself but doesn’t move entirely away from the younger. Their thighs are pressed together and Jungkook’s free hand is still placed steadily at the small of Jimin’s back. Jungkook’s fingers unconsciously rub circles into the skin revealed just below his shirt. “I think I lost mine about the same way, Jimin-hyung.” Jimin glances up at Jungkook and knows his eyes are practically blaring how smitten he is with the taller boy.

“You are me, I am you Jungkookie.”

Jungkook taps the tip of Jimin’s nose with his finger and they are only brought out of their little moment by a groan from Taehyung who proceeds to throw a piece of bread at them hitting Jungkook in the cheek. Jungkook rolls his eyes and flicks the piece of bread back at Taehyung in retaliation. Taehyung goes to reach across the table to catch Jungkook in a headlock but Namjoon pulls him into his seat before anything can actually happen.

“Um.” Jimin turns his attention toward Jungkook whose face is turning a very vibrant shade of red the longer he tries to get his words out. “If...if it makes it any better, I would never do anything to hurt Jiminie-hyung. I’d rather cut my own hands off.” After the first few words, Jungkook’s voice had gotten steadier and more confident. He really didn’t want to fuck this up and their friends were being of no help right now.

“Please don’t, they’re such pretty hands.” Every eye turns sharply toward Jimin. He raises an eyebrow playfully and takes a bite of steak into his mouth. Minho snorts sharply, sending his water spraying out of his nose and mouth. The table erupts in laughter at that and Jungkook drops his head exasperated. Jimin giggles cutely and tilts his head to rest it against Jungkook’s shoulder before turning toward Jungkook and pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Sorry Bun, I couldn’t help myself.”

“The fact that you went this long without doing that is astounding.” Jimin shrugs at Jungkook’s playful smile. While Jungkook pulled out his most disgustingly sweet flirting techniques to fluster Jimin, Jimin returned the favor by making every innuendo he could possibly come up with. This was actually one of his better moments. “You’ve gone, what, like an hour? That must be a new record, hyung.”

            “Oh, hush you.”

After that, the table falls into comfortable conversations. Eventually, Jungkook joins in with Jonghyun and Yoongi’s conversation about music. Jimin barely notices it when the younger’s arm stays permanently wrapped around him in a protective hold even when Jimin giggles wildly at something the others say. It doesn’t go past the notice of Jimin’s hyungs. Taemin especially notices how easily the larger boy adjusts himself to Jimin. They were practically orbiting around one another with how seamlessly they moved. Even when Jimin would throw himself around the younger would steady him unconsciously and then glance toward Jimin with the most smitten look on his face. As much as Jimin’s hyungs wanted to grill his boyfriend all night, they found themselves unable to with how much attention the younger man pays to their baby.

When the night is drawing to a close and they have all eaten their fill and then crowded into the living room to play games, Taemin pulls Jungkook aside. Jimin glares sharply and Taemin rolls his eyes and makes a shooing motion. The door between the two rooms closes cutting off the chattering of everyone else and leaving the two of them in relative silence. Jungkook feels his nerves once again boiling under his skin and Taemin tries to find the right words to say that would get his point across but also not get him in trouble with his little brother.

“I was going to threaten you if you ever hurt my brother. I had planned this entire speech on how Jimin deserves to be treated with respect and that he needs attention and that you need to be willing to make a commitment to that.” Taemin glances toward the door with a particular look in his eyes that Jungkook can’t quite place. It’s almost sad but there is also happiness there. There was also some other foreign emotion under his gaze but Jungkook could almost get the gist of what the older man was feeling. “I don’t think I have to tell you all of that. You seem to know it and do it naturally. I’ve never seen Jiji so happy. As long as that smile stays on his face, then I’ll trust you with his happiness. Just...uh keep the bedroom talk to a minimum when you’re around, I really don’t need to know about it.”

“I promise I’ll try my best to make him happy.”

            “Welcome to the family.”

Taemin claps him on the shoulder and then leaves through the door. Jungkook follows him, a bit stunned. Jimin smiles up at him when he walks toward the smaller man. There is thinly veiled worry in his gaze. Jimin shifts on the sofa to allow Jungkook room to sit with him and then swings his legs over Jungkook’s lap to curl up against him. Jungkook winds his arms around Jimin and nuzzles into his hair. Like that, it’s like the rest of the world ceases to exist for them. Jimin could stay like this forever and be happy. All around them are his most important people who seem to be meshing fairly seamlessly. His heart felt like it could burst from his chest with how happy he was.

“What did Hyung have to say?” Jimin tilts his chin up to press a light kiss to Jungkook’s jaw. Jungkook glances down and offers him a small peck. “He didn’t threaten you did he, bun? I’ll maim him, I swear.”

“There will be no maiming anyone, feisty.” Jungkook settles his chin above Jimin’s head allowing Jimin to curl more comfortably in his lap. Jimin could admit he could be quite feisty but Jungkook loved that about him. Where was the fun if he didn’t have a little spice to him? Jimin thinks he’d be pretty boring. “He just said that seeing you look so happy...that it makes him feel okay giving you over to someone else. We just have to keep the sex talk to a minimum around him.”

Jimin giggles and presses a lingering kiss to the pulse point of Jungkook’s neck. “You might have promised that, bun, but I never did. I like seeing him so flustered. It makes my day to mess with him.” Jungkook shakes his head and pinches at Jimin’s hip poking his fingers into the skin just right. Jimin growls out a sound of annoyance as his body instinctively curls away from Jungkook’s probing fingers. Then he breaks out in breathless giggles as Jungkook continues to tickle his side in retaliation for all the time he’s going to make things harder for Jungkook.

Jimin smiles so widely his cheeks are starting to hurt when Jungkook stops his tickle attack. He’s breathless but so happy. Jimin had never felt so fulfilled in his entire life. He felt, for the first time, like he was surrounded by family. He no longer felt alone. It felt like he had finally found what he had been searching endlessly for his entire life. It might not be the most traditional of families, but it was his now and he loved them just the way they were. All together like this, Jimin could feel that he would never be alone again. Wrapped up in the warmth of Jungkook’s arms and surrounded by the playful bickering and laughter of everyone else, feels just like coming home. He found his place in the world and it was right here in this room. He found the people who made up his family. Some blood and most not and one that he could see himself adding to their little family within the far off future. It was perfect. All of it in that moment was pure perfection.
