Chapter Text
“Tch,” he scoffed. “What are you? Acting like some kind of hero? You read comics or what?”
“Hah? No, I’m not!” You protested. “I’m just being honest with my decisions here, and what’s wrong with sounding heroic? I mean that’s not my intention, even though it sounds like it, I’m doing it to save you and save my boyfriend, besides, weren’t you once a hero too...?”
“...” he remained silent, frowned at the mention of that word. “Yeah, I used to, but it’s all over now because of this stupid pandemic, I’m only able to be a so called ‘hero’ by killing those damn killers...”
“Oh, ummm...is that what you aspired to be?” You asked softly. “...Back then?”
“Yeah,” he blurted, eyes fully open wide now. “I used to be the best of the best in the most prestigious hero academy, I was going to be the number one hero until this stupid pandemic had to ruin this whole society...back to its normal state, but now we have to be so called ‘protectors of humans’ from our own kind...of those who wants to kill the weak humans off...Anyways, those stupid villains who initiated this got what they wanted...a restored society with no quirk users in public.”
“...” you remained silent, listening intently.
“It’s stupid really,” he continued to rant, “...the fact is that we can’t hide ourselves forever, it isn’t fair that we had to end up like this, being confined to a prison life to pursue no committed relationships with humans, except for those who wants to break the rules and get killed...”
”Wait, if someone breaks the rules, they get killed?” You asked softly.
“Yeah, your boyfriend will get executed,” he blurted, “If you get caught being together and married, that is...So, you better watch out, but I have a feeling that your boyfriend is being secretive about his relationship with you, besides the circle of friends knowing about it...all I’m saying is, don’t get caught.”
You nodded., wondering why Shinsou seemed adamant to marry you when he knows the consequence. Yet he also mentioned about travelling globally, maybe to avoid the government? Either way, you realize how secretive you must also be secretive about your relationship with him.
“And that’s what the rest of the messed up society is doing,” he continued on. “My kind, at least at the vampiric side does illegal things without getting caught, nobody really knows whether they’re abiding by the rules or not, who knows how many humans have been killed at this point, so why does it matter at the end anyways?”
You nodded once again, smiling softly at how he seemed to relax by talking about this—at least sharing and releasing it out. You stoked his hair carefully, despite its spiky prickliness, it was surprisingly soft and ruffled, much like Shinsou’s.
“...you’re right,” you responded. “But, at least the law is there to give a barrier from letting the crime go explosive like the beginning, right?”
“Guess so,” he muttered. “...Whether the quirks are public or not, there’s still criminal activity happening behind the scenes, so...it goes to show that even without any publicity of heroes showing off their powers, the only factor is the sensual desires of people’s hearts that drive them to do whatever crime they commit to fulfil their fleshly desires...”
You nodded, unsure where this was going, but glad that he was saner and calmer than before.
“Yeah, I suppose,” you affirmed, “...Isn’t that also true in today’s society? Without powers or abilities, it’s all the same, whatever other crime that inflicts harm in themselves or others other than killing...is also insisted by people’s hearts, so then...all I can is that...at least the law is bending people’s outward behaviour for even a bit, at least not too much crime publicly, I mean...we can’t really do much now about people’s hearts, it’s not like we can truly change them all at once.”
He shrugged. “Good point, but the point is that...the ones in charge of justice aren’t aware of these crimes, just like the relationship that brainwashing bastard is pursuing with you, and it’s just ridiculous to see how little control the government has over these things.”
“...” you gulped, nodding. “I see your view, but seriously, Katsuki, why do you seem so against me pursing a relationship with Hitoshi? Besides the fact that it’s illegal?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” He asked, frowning with the usual furrows of his brows, though looking more relaxed than before. “That guy doesn’t deserve it, after all that he has done to other women over the years, since we were in the academy together, he’s done nothing but make them cry and leave them hanging.”
“That’s not true,” you defended, raising your tone, “...You’ve got him all wrong, Katsuki, he hasn’t told you this but he did to me, he said that it was Todoroki Shoto that kitty girl spoke with that left her to tears, something about wanting to come together again...but she was unsure so she went to Hitoshi as a cat, before the pandemic hit, you don’t know the full story, Katsuki, so please stop blaming him for it.”
“...” he remained silent, eyes and aura darkening with a frown. “...So, that’s his lame excuse for what happened?”
“What...?”
”That’s why you’re all convinced to do it for him despite the risk on your own life?” He asked, tone growing huskier and harsher, almost as if lighting a fire again.
“What do you mean? Katsuki, I heard your story, and you only saw the side view of what happened, but Hitoshi witnessed it personally to see the whole story...so, why won’t you just listen? Why won’t you trust him?”
“He only saw one side of the coin,” he spat back. “...but he was also only minding his own business while that girl came to him, wasn’t he?”
”Yeah...?”
“So then, that’s not enough evidence to prove that what he said was legit,” he continued on. “...So, I’m not convinced, sounds sugarcoated.”
“HAH?” You gaped at him, bewildered at his unbelief. “Well, neither is yours, Bakugou, I believed you because I trusted your honesty, and I also trusted Hitoshi especially, just as I listened and believed in your story, I pieced it together with Hitoshi’s point of view, why won’t you just hunt and listen for yourself?”
“Tch,” he scoffed. “I have better things to do, besides, he never listens to my side either, so I won’t bother to listen to his side.”
You groaned. “Oh my gosh, are you some kid or what? I just told you what he said.”
“And you believe him?” He asked, raising a brow. “You must be delusional, probably brainwashed you.”
You rolled your eyes, sighing. “Well, you know what, whether you believe in him or not, I’ll still help the both of you...because you two are important to me, and I want you two whole again without heaping blames at one another anymore bug to have the final solution in place, to finally bring you two out of this cycle of defeat for centuries, so I’ll be willing to share my blood to set you two free, will you believe in this decision I just said at least?”
“...” he stayed still, looking up into your eyes, unwittingly stared long enough for a deep shade of red to rise before diverting his gaze away. “...I’ll believe you when I see the blood, I’ll let this pass.”
You sighed in relief. “Alright, that’s all I ask, you don’t have to agree with everything Hitoshi says, but at least agree in the blood sacrifice I’m willing to give, alright?”
He nodded, raising himself up from your lap as you watched his ash blonde hair sway to the side, flickering his eyes at you. “...alright then, since you’ve at least convinced me that you’ll do it, my job now is to ensure that you stay alive until you do, I’ll be your personal protector from now on.”
You nodded. “Thank you, I’ll keep my word, but...my boyfriend is excluded right?”
”Hah?” He crinkled his brows. “You want me to protect you from him? Is that what you’re saying?”
”What? No, I—“
”I’ll gladly do that,” he cut you off, leaning closer. “...if you let me.”
”W-What? No! Of course not, silly!” You laughed softly, shaking your head at him. “But, why would you be glad to separate me from him?”
He shrugged, diverting his gaze away from you to suppress the warmth colouring his cheeks. “...Isn’t obvious? I just wanna make sure you survive till’ the end, at least to do what you promised, since he might accidentally bite you or some other shitty thing he might do.”
“No, he would never do that to me,” you defended back. “But no, don’t add him in your list.”
He raised a brow, relaxing with a playful snarl. “...You sure?”
You nodded, pinching your lips together. “...Yep, I’m quite sure, I don’t wanna be separated from him either, if you kill him, you’re attacking me too.”
He rolled his eyes. “Possessive much?”
You chuckled softly. “If anything, he’s the possessive one, I’m just copying him, hehe.”
“Pft,” he scoffed. “First that shape-shifter cat, now I’m dealing with a copy cat,” he huffed, “...life can’t get anymore hilarious, huh?”
You shrugged with a gentle laugh. “Guess not, but hey, at least I’ll make your problems go away now.”
He playfully poked your forehead. “It better, or I’ll positively not protect you when the day comes.”
You chuckled nervously. “Haha...um, I’ll make sure that won’t happen, let’s head back?”
