Chapter Text
War and Escape
Alvadi and the other slaves were summoned to help open a portal big enough for the Jotunheim army to invade Asgard. Alvadi managed to send a young man through a portal to alert King Loki on what was going on. Loki and Byleister alerted Angrboda and Brunhilde. The four of them went to gather the military to orchestrate the rescue efforts.
Alvadi and the other slaves opened the portal to Asgard, and King Helblindi headed the invasion. They entered Asgard at night quietly. They took advantage of the cover of night to start attacking small towns. They found resistance even there. Heimdall alerted Odin of the invasion.
Odin went and woke Thor up and briefed him on what was going on. He trusted Thor to defend Asgard, so he put him in charge of one of the regimens. Thor immediately took his men to the front line protecting the civilians. Odin decided that this was an opportunity for Hela to prove herself. He went to talk to her, and she immediately agreed to help defend Asgard.
To put Hela in charge of the city's defense, he restored the Asgardian memories of Hela. It was a shock for many to have their memories repaired suddenly, but being under attack, they had no time to think about it. Hela stepped out of Helheim with innate grace and immediately took stock of the situation. She received a regimen and coordinated with General Tyr to defend Asgard.
In Begavelse, Loki decided to send some scouts to analyze the situation in Jotunheim. The scouts went disguised as Skuffelse. They quickly took stock of the problem. They spoke to Alvadi, who managed to convince one of The Jotun generals to open portals in other big cities. The general asked Alvadi, "Why is it that you want to help us?" Alvadi responded, "We are trying to redeem ourselves as we were blamed for the last defeat against the Asgardians. We want to leave no doubt that we are loyal to Jotunheim." The general responded, "I will be sure to mention your loyalty to King Helblindi when I see him."
Once the Jotnar troops were in Asgard, the mages closed the portals and opened new doorways to Begavelse. Loki immediately had the armed forces cross to Jotunheim to assist in the rescue efforts. The Begavet had to fight the remaining troops of the Jotnar and women who were trying to stop their slaves from escaping. They were able to avoid hurting children, but some women suffered injuries and even died. Many Jotnar soldiers lost their lives, as they were no match to the Valkyries.
One million Skuffelse escaped from Jotunheim and were welcomed at Begavelse. Loki and Byleistr did their best to leave no one behind. Finally, after 5 days, the portals were closed, and the Kingdom of Begavelse started a reorganization process. Fortunately, enough most of the Skuffelse did not require immediate medical attention. However, everyone was happy to hear about the two new babies born hours after their mothers were rescued. It symbolized a new era for the Begavelse.
Over in Asgard, things were getting messy. King Helblindi was informed they could not get reinforcements or supplies from Jotunheim as the portals were closed. That is when he realized the Skuffelse had set him up. In his mind, the only choice was to keep fighting. His troops eventually made it to the capital of the realm.
Hela took advantage of the opportunity, and using adulation as a tool; she convinced her father to fight King Helblindi. She pretended to aid him but, in reality, stroke him down together with King Helblindi, who realized it. She then invited him to negotiate a treaty of cooperation. Acknowledging how powerful and deceiving Hela could be, Helblindi immediately agreed to deal with her as he saw no chance of winning against her. Hela wanted to prove to her people that she could be trusted to reign over them. Resolving the Millenium long conflict with Jotunheim was an excellent way to do it.
Thor was not aware of what was going on in the palace until Fandral informed him that a woman had taken over the throne and signed a peace treaty with King Helblindi. Thor said, "What do you mean, Fandral who would dare do that!" Fandral responded, "Her name is Hela, and the elders claim she is your sister and the firstborn of Odin."
A different messenger informed the captain in charge of the army that Thor was fighting the peace treaty. Since the Jotnar had retreated, Thor decided to head to the capital. What he did not know was that Hela was waiting for him. Hela had agreed to exile her younger brother because of his unprovoked attack on the Jotnar. In that way, she did not have to take responsibility for Thor's banishment.
King Helblindi had agreed to recognize Asgard as the nine realms' Emperors and lend his army to grow the empire. In return, Jotunheim would be recognized as an ally of Asgard. Once they had proven their loyalty, Hela would return the Casket of the Ancient Winters. In the meantime, she would allow them to use it a few weeks a year to return balance to their realm. Heimdall would also let them use the Bifrost to establish commerce with other domains.
While Heimdall liked Thor once he could remember Hela, he also remembered how much he loved her. He would obey her commands without question. As far as he was concerned, Odin got what he deserved, and he delighted in the punishment that Hela gave him. Odin had not died, but the rest of Asgard really did not have to know.
As soon as a Thor entered the capital, Hela told him he could either surrender to her, or she would kill Sif, Hogun, and Volstagg. Thor surrendered his hammer, and Hela took him to the Bifrost. Heimdall said, "I am sorry, Thor, but Queen Hela is the legitimate monarch." He opened the Bifrost, and Thor was on his way to Sakaar.
