Chapter Text

Home, Ch. 5
A moment of peace.

It’s not often that it’s calm in the house. There’s always some sort of commotion. In the beginning, it was mostly fighting. Which is understandable, seeing as nearly half of the building’s population had murdered someone on the other half. Fortunately, as time went on and peace was made, the commotion had been progressing to laughter and jokes. Nonetheless, there was rarely ever quiet. Something your current companion would like to have more of.

Fortunately, the two of you are now home more or less alone-most of your louder housemates are out either running errands, or out at the park. Left at home is you, Kirumi, Ryoma, and Korekiyo. At the moment, Kirumi is cleaning out the other’s rooms, never quite having broken the habit of being the Ultimate maid, and Ryoma is out for a walk-he does that a lot these days.

That leaves you and Kiyo to sit on the couch together. You sigh contentedly, resting your head on his shoulder. He doesn’t tense up anymore, he simply takes your hand in his and begins rubbing gentle circles in your palm. You take a moment to marvel at how far he’s come. In the beginning, the anthropologist was very jumpy and tense, which was understandable seeing as he was recently betrayed by the only person who claimed to love him, and had essentially shaped his entire life. It had taken time, for him to come to terms with what he had done and to shake the chains that had bound him for as long as he could remember, and it didn’t help that two of his “victims” were alive and well and living alongside him. But slowly, slowly, he had opened up. In the beginning, it was smaller things. Picking out his own clothes, eating alongside the others, occasionally removing his signature mask. But as of late, it had progressed even further. He now only wore the mask in public, opting to go without it while at home.

Such is the case now,
Where you look up and see his unobstructed, contented smile.
You sigh again, snuggling further into the crook of his neck.

“Are you alright, dear?” He inquires.

“Yes, very much so. I just...”
You pause, taking a moment to calm the wave of emotion that swells through you. We’re alive. After everything that happened, we’re all still here. And you...”
there’s so much you want to say. So much you want to tell him, but...
“I’m proud of you.”
Is all that you’re able to get out.

Although you expected a reply, Kiyo simply closes his eyes and nods. There’s a lot between you left unsaid, but you’ve come to find that words aren’t always needed around Korekiyo.

It wasn’t often that things were peaceful around the shared home, but it is moments like these that you treasure.

Notes:

This has been sitting in my notes for over a year, and what a year it has been. 2020 changed me, changed all of us, but even through all of that I have been blessed with support for this story. I can’t in good conscience simply abandon it. Everyone, please look forward to more chapters to come!

Notes:

So, ah... this is my first attempt at a real, multi-chapter fic! Wish me luck!
