Somehow Sirius woke up, but it didn’t feel right. He felt different, like he had been reborn. “Sirius?” A voice that he hadn’t heard is years but would recognize anywhere asked.
“James!” Sirius threw his arms around James, “I’m sorry I couldn't protect Harry. I’m sorry…” He trailed off when Lily set a hand on his shoulder.
“It’s okay, you tried. Let Remus have a turn, like it or not he was Harry’s favorite uncle.” She said softly, “I also think that there are some people you need to catch up with.”
James nodded, “We need to start somewhere important though, come with me.”
James led Sirius down a path that was silver and gold until they came to a house, at least that’s what it looked like. “Promise me you’ll listen okay? You may feel angry and that’s okay but please listen.” James said.
“Sure?” Sirius agreed hesitantly, what was he agreeing to? James knocked on the door and it swung open as if whoever was inside had been waiting next to it. “Reg?” Sirius asked in almost a whisper.
“I’m going to leave you two alone, talk it out and listen to each other.” James said before leaving the two brother’s staring at each other.
Regulus gave Sirius a smile before asking, “Are you going to come in or are you going to stand there? We have all the time in the world.” Sirius didn’t trust himself with words at that moment so he just nodded and stepped into the house.
The two sat down at a table and stared at each other for a good few minutes before Sirius spoke, “I’m sorry for leaving you.”
Regulus looked shocked, “No, I’m the one that should be sorry, you were right I never should have joined them.”
“Well I guess we’re both sorry. I never stopped loving you after you joined them. I always believed in you.” Sirius whispered, wiping a few stray tears on his face.
Regulsu nodded, “I never stopped looking up to you.”
That was all Sirius needed, he broke. As much as he was close with James or Remus his brother had always been his best friend, “You know why we still love each other?” Sirius asked. Regulus nodded for him to go on, “Because the stars never stopped shining, the sun just rose.”
Regulus’ eyes filled up with tears, “You didn’t forget?”
“How could I forget? Stars don’t shine one at a time Reg, they’re always there, together.” Sirius said, moving to hug his brother.
Regulus hugged him back, “I tried to kill him you know.”
Sirius moved back in shock, “Who? Who did you try to kill? Voldemort killed you at eighteen.”
“Wrong. I found out his secret. He made horcruxes, I found one. Salazar Slytherin’s locket to be exact, Kreacher apperated me to the cave and I told him to destroy it and leave me there.” Regulus paused to let Sirius process what he had said, “Ultimately I was drowned by the infieri. So technically my body is in the cave but my soul is here and all of us are just embodiments of our souls here anyways.”
Sirius smiled at his brother, “I’m glad to have you back. Do you think we can try again?”
“Yeah, that would be nice.” Regulus stood up and grabbed Sirius’ hand, “Lets go look at the stars because after all they never really stop shining.”
