Chapter Text
The title comes from the mando’a phrase “aliit ori’shya tal’din” which means “family is more than blood”. Their culture is huge on adoption and I just – give us our Mandos adopting left right and center like we know they do, c’mon favroni.
BOBA IS LIKE THIS MAN IS BASICALLY JUST A CHILD IN NEED OF LOVE AND VALIDATION AND I AM A MAN ALSO IN NEED OF LOVE AND VALIDATION AND THIS MAN IS NOW MY SON it works out in his brain and honestly he’s pretty good at it, I was surprised bc Spirals-Boba blacked out first time someone called him buir.
Din has been through an extremely traumatic experience which was not only a personal violation but also quite possibly a sort of cultural suicide in his own mind in this series of fic we WILL be exploring this – (I think it’s been nicely covered)
I had to have “ You get your armour back” as line one. I had to. I did change it to “You got your armour back” just so it fit the beginning of the fic a little later into the episode, after the fight as opposed to during, but like... this is the root of the fic, guys. Boba got his armour, 60% more chill, and is now ready for family bonding.
I also wound up writing more Boba and Fennec than I really expected – I think that where “I trust you to change course” is the huge turning point for Din and Doba in turns of mutual respect, the turn for Boba and Fennec was “I trust you not to hurt me when I am trying to help you, and we are in mutually vulnerable positions.” So it’s likely that Din is going to feel younger than them both in himself and from their perspectives – almost a retroactive youth, if you understand what I mean? He’s been through a LOT and now, whether he knows it or not, he is safe and with people who will help him and protect him and his child, and I just – the potential for a testing out of what it would be to have spent his early years as a bounty hunter in this situation is there.
Fennec and Boba have an established if somewhat volatile relationship dynamic which makes Fen the older sister (Cara is the baby).
Boba was just, straight into a war and revenge age 10. Like. You can not make that up. Well you can because that’s exactly what happened but. You get what I mean. Din was for his childhood raised and protected, if probably deeply traumatised, as we see in the series. Boba was just.....I think if Boba age sixteen and Din age sixteen met, Boba would feel like an Actual Grown Adult, just because of how much he’s already been through.
