Chapter Text
The institution was hell, to say it nicely.
Well, that was probably too nice said, he thought as he again stumbled forward after getting hit with a thick wooden stick.
The blindfold that was tied around his head scratched roughly on his skin and the male huffed in annoyance.
"Hawks, focus!" his instructor yelled as the blonde tightened his stance again.
All of this was meant to sharpen his senses and reflexes, they had said.
But everything the blonde got out of it were bruises and headaches.
'Hawks' was his assigned name now, since Keigo was dead, this was the new him. And his instructor seemed to have a lot of fun yelling said name in anger and disappointment a lot.
Don't get him wrong, usually Hawks had amazing reflexes due to his past, but for some reason he had a lot of trouble to just..make it work.
After another couple of hits and him trying to dodge his attackers and failing greatly, he landed on his butt, his whole body aching.
"Enough!" the instructor growled and Hawks could hear his heavy boots stomb as he approached the blonde.
A strong yank on his collar pulled him back on his shaky feet and he could feel the hot breath of the man on his face.
And smell it too, disgusting.
" You rat. Where did they even get you?! You useless piece of shit." his instructor said and spit in his face.
Sticky saliva ran down his left cheek and if Hawks would have had enough energy left he would have punched this asshole as hard as possible.
But he couldn't. Not yet.
" What makes them think, you'd be in any way capable, if you can't handle this, huh?!" he yelled again.
"Because I'm pretty.." Hawks coughed and couldn't help the grin that formed on his lips as the instructor pushed him back to the ground.
"Clean up." he ordered and the footstep echoed through the hall until he couldn't hear them anymore.
When Hawks was sure that he was alone he pulled off the blindfold and used the piece of cloth to wipe the spit away from his face.
"Tch, disgusting.." he murmured as he gathered himself up.
After he was done cleaning up the mess of the training session, storing the mats where they belong, Hawks stood there, knees still shaking from exhaustion.
Hawks woke up to annoying sunlight flowing through the windows and an even more annoying headache that began hammering on his forehead.
Maybe drinking even more after Dabi left wasn't that great of an idea, he thought.
Groaning the blonde rolled out of bed, quiet literally as he found himself lying on the floor instead.
Yet another groan left his lips as he heaved himself up on his feet again, rubbed his sore shoulders and slurred to the kitchen to get some hot black coffee.
As far as he was aware, there was no work for him that day except writing his little report from the day before.
What a shit work, he thought as he rolled his shoulders, hearing some bones cracking from the rotation.
He stared at his coffee machine, watching as the black liquid filled into the can.
Hawks poured the freshly brewed coffee in a cup, fishing out some painkiller and his other pills from one of his cupboards before swallowing it down with a big sip of hot black coffee.
"Can't you take your pills like a normal person?" his mother said with a roll of her eyes. She looked tired, he noted. Heavy bags under her eyes as she stared into her own coffee, probably trying not to fall asleep at this point. And Keigo can't take it against her, since he was probably the reason again that she couldn't sleep.
"A normal person doesn't need to take so many pills in the first place." came his snarky reply after he drowned his pills in his coffee before drinking, counting each little capsule.
One to make the voices stop, one to make the fidgeting stop, one to numb his feelings and one to keep his breakfast in his stomach.
"You know exactly that's not my fault!" the woman roared.
Of course it wasn't, Keigo thought then. And he'd never make her responsible for the voices in his head.
Shaking his head at the memory Hawks took another big sip, waiting for the pounding in his head to reduce. First his dreams, now his memories that keep haunting him.
Sighing the blonde man put on some sweatpants and a hoodie twice his size before heading out of his apartment.
The walk he took was already burned in his memory for years now as he strolled through the streets and through a park already full with people.
What time was it even?
Hawks watched children playing with each other or their parents as he walked past them.
His destination was supposed to be right behind the park. A house big enough for a whole family, small enough to not be too impressive.
It was a gift, if you could say that, something Keigo had left behind after he died. At least that's what the commission made it seem like, because that was the deal.
His death for a home and enough money for his mother to live carefree and without a worry.
As Hawks got closer to the house he pulled up his hood over his head to not be too visible for whoever might be at home or who may watch the house.
Again he was breaking a rule by checking in on his mother, but honestly he didn't care about it. He needed to see for himself if she was doing okay.
It took only a few more minutes for him as he left the park and approached the house.
What he saw there though made him hide right away again, pressing right behind one of the trees surrounding the property.
A police car was parked in the front yard, two officers standing there and another taller person at the front door.
From where Hawks stood he couldn't quiete make out their faces but he instantly recognised his mother as the front door opened.
What's going on?
The blonde tried to get a closer look, moving behind the treeline and staying in the shadows, but he managed to now see and hear a little.
The tall man had his back turned to him, broad shoulders almost blocking his line of sight.
"Ma'am, I'm Enji Todoroki. I'm sorry for the inconvenience but I need to talk to you about your son."
What the fuckidy fuck?
