Chapter Text
Annie glanced across at the girl sitting opposite: composed, thoughtful, currently unaware of Annie’s intense stare. She could remain like that for the rest of the limited time they had together, fixed onto this beacon of light in her life of dulcet greys and disinteresting attempts of colour. This being of pure inspiration and compassion; of love and joy; of simplicity and ease; of wholeness and yet a spark that discerned her from every other suitor that desperately tried to fill Annie’s once vacant life. Maybe it was that Annie made the first move; that despite the affection she clearly held for her, Mikasa never pushed, never clung, never forced her way into Annie’s presence – and in doing so naturally became the centre of it. A Summer had passed since they sat on the bed they currently did, a Summer that felt like a minute away, yet also a lifetime. For, whilst being together so little, they cared so much. One particularly bad night of Annie’s, with hauntings and torment paralyzing her to the once suffocating beddings she sat idly on presently, Mikasa was there: comforting her, reassuring her, protecting her. It was not in the words she said, not the actions she did, but the presence she had that made Annie always feel safe – parted or not. For, wherever Annie was, Mikasa was there in heart, guiding her to safety in times of danger, to comfort in times of stress, she was everything to Annie without needing to show it. For she felt it, and that was enough.
Neither of the couple were successfully emotive; little was achieved beyond conformations of love in words when the two were secure and happy. But it mattered little – they knew how they felt, no amount of words could confirm any greater than the feeling of indescribable, instinctive companionship the two felt. Annie was 3 months into their relationship before she even registered that Mikasa was physically beautiful. She did not date her for her physicality, it felt only like a bonus to notice the way the wind swept her hair in a perfect manor, regardless of intensity or angle. To gaze into eyes that reflected the sky on its clearest night, the ocean in its most pristine environment; Mikasa was everything. And Annie just realized that Mikasa had finally noticed her gaze.
“You look star-struck, see something pretty?” a playful smile preyed upon Mikasa’s gentle lips and Annie flushed and buried her burning face into her hands. A muffled “Maybe” brought forth a chuckle from the girl positioned opposite Annie, now closing her laptop to focus on her.
“Look up.” The sharpness of her voice caught Annie off guard, causing her flinch up. Mikasa had leant slightly forward, her hands supporting her chin resting on them, crossed fingers. Slightly, the fingers uncrossed as one hand brushed forward, and pressed softly on Annie’s nose.
“Boop.”
Annie’s eyes furrowed somewhat, as she flinched again at the sudden movement, and raised an eyebrow inquisitively at her. A cunning smile played upon Mikasa’s face, eyes dancing with a sudden playfulness to them as she dropped her hand back.
“You just booped me.” Annie stated, very matter-of-factly.
“I did.” The smile morphed into a smirk, the light in her eyes still dancing ablaze. Her hand once more went to Annie’s face, this time tracing her chin with the index finger of it, sliding up to her ear, drawing it across to once again press it slightly against the blonde’s nose. Instinctively, and not caught off guard, Annie rose her neck slightly and bit forwards to softly trap Mikasa’s finger between her teeth. Mikasa’s eyes widened slightly as she adjusted to what had just transpired, as now Annie’s face held the shadow of a smirk itself, difficult to be identified with the slightly ajar mouth holding a digit of Mikasa’s.
“Annie?” Mikasa, half bewildered, half bemused, murmured as Annie softened the pressure moreso, and Mikasa’s finger retracted. Annie, seizing the initiative caused by Mikasa’s shock, leant forwards and pressed their lips together, Mikasa slowly falling into it once fully recovered from her shock. Slowly, after a sizable amount of time, Annie pulled away, and herself drew a finger to Mikasa’s nose, reflecting the girl’s previous actions minutes before.
“Boop.” Mikasa chuckled, and pressed her head into Annie’s neck, eyes closed.
