Chapter 8: Coincidence

Summary:

Bookstores and Bribes.

Notes:

It's been so long I figured that I should just post this little tidbit to show I haven't forgotten about this fic. It's admittedly on the backburner, but it has a fond place in my heart.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Kuroko idly trails a hand across the bookshelf as he peruses the titles. He had no particular book in mind, but when he went for an afternoon stroll his feet had simply carried to him to his usual bookstore. Just as he reaches the end of the aisle and begins to round the corner, he collides with something large and firm. Someone’s chest. He also hears the familiar flutter of fanning pages and the clatter of book spines hitting the floor.

He looks up to see an equally familiar face. “Ah, Murasakibara-kun what are you doing here?”

“Kuro-chin? You should be more careful.” He says as he slowly stoops over to collect his things.

Half-naked men.

“…Romance novels?” On the cover of almost every book that landed right-side up there’s some variation of an open-shirted windblown male with a woman clinging to him as he stares into the distance. Though as Murasakibara flips over another novel he sees that there is an outlier of the man cradling a woman’s face as they stare passionately into each other’s eyes, complete with dramatic lighting and oceanic background.

Murasakibara gathers the books and straightens before he answers. “They’re for Katsu-nii. He said I could spend the change on snacks if I bought them for him. I'm not supposed to tell anyone about it.”

“Ah. Did you need help finding anything?” offers Kuroko.

“No, these are all he wanted…I think.” He shrugs and continues to walk down the aisle, the same direction as before the accident. Kuroko briefly contemplates continuing to browse what is apparently the linguistics section, before deciding to follow Murasakibara to the register.

As the books are getting scanned through, a thought comes to Kuroko’s mind. “Ah, would you like to use my membership card? You can get a five percent discount.”

At the thought of more spending money, Murasakibara’s eyes light up. “Thanks Kuro-chin.”

“It’s nothing.”

Notes:

I know I have non-chronological chapters in the tags but I'm still reluctant to just toss stuff completely out of order. Any complaints if I randomly start sprinkling in some high school chapters?

Also apologies if I didn't respond to your comment, I read it and appreciated it very much. Sometimes executive dysfunction says respond to it later and then anxiety says it's too late to respond now lol.

Notes:

Feel free to send in requests for future chapters! If you're Ace I'd love to hear from you in particular, since I myself am not.
Updates will be sporadic o)-(
