Chapter Text
“Dream! You almost done,” Nightmare called out. He had just finished packing up his stuff. After the strangers found their home, he was a bit concerned. If they could find it easily, who knows what the villagers would do if they found it. They’d probably lead a creeper in.
“Almost! Just have a few things left.”
”Alright, well, hurry up! Who knows when those strangers wi—“
”Alright, I’m done! Don’t have to rush me, jeez,” Dream says as he comes around the corner. His mouth was set into a thin line as his face was scrunched up. Nightmare almost let out a laugh at how ridiculous he looked. He decided to smile instead and started up the ladder, shaking his head a bit. Dream ran after him, grabbing onto the ladder and following after Nightmare. He waits below him as Nightmare shoves open the trap door. Once Nightmare gets out, he turns around and offers his hand down to him. He grabs onto it and Nightmare pulls him up. As he stands up, Nightmare brushes off his shoulders, before nodding and picking up his bag.
Before they leave though, they leave a sign
”Thanks a lot strangers.”
Dream nods, satisfied with the message while Nightmare shakes his head in amusement. He pulls Dream to his feet as they leave their home. They set off into the woods, heading North. They walk for a few hours before coming across a cave.
”Hey, Dream! We should sleep there,” Nightmare says, pointing towards the cave. It was dark and looked a bit like an abandoned mine. A wooden arch decays, some of it falling off. He turns and gives his brother an unamused look.
”What? It isn’t that bad of an idea! I mean, sure mobs can spawn in there, but mobs can spawn everywhere!” Nightmares exclaims, sweeping his arms out.
“Nightmare, mobs can only spawn everywhere during the night, you idiot! You know, when it’s dark? If we go in there, it’s practically suicide. Besides, we aren’t idiots,” Dream says. Nightmare falters a bit before smiling.
”Yeah, well, you might not be an idiot, but I am,” he starts to run towards the cave, but before he can, Dream grabs his arm, pulling him back.
”Look, Nightmare. If we’re going to sleep in there, we’re going to go in prepared, okay? Now let’s get some wood and some stones, craft some torches, and THEN we can go in, okay?”
Nightmare stares at Dream before smiling and nodding. They disperse and go towards some tree, breaking them down and making some pickaxes. Nightmare heads towards the mouth of the cave, mining some stone.
He mines about 18 blocks before heading back to Dream and giving them to him. Dream takes them and goes to work, making a furnace, 2 pickaxes and 2 swords. He gives one sword and a pick before breaking some wood, putting them into the furnace. He puts some sticks in the burner to cook some charcoal.
After a few minutes, he takes out charcoal and gets to work at making some torches. He makes 40, giving 20 to Nightmare.
He breaks the crafting table and decides that they should head in. The sun was setting already. ”Alright, let’s go!”
As they head into the cave, the sound of dripping water and their echoing footsteps fill the empty cavern. Dream looks around, the light of the torch only going so far. He places one down, taking out another one and continuing forwards.
“Ah!” Nightmare's exclamation causes Dream to take out his sword, only for him to see Nightmare on the floor. He sighs and sheaths his sword, offering Nightmare his hand. Nightmares takes it, heaving himself up. He dusts himself off, nodding at Dream. Dream shakes his head before turning back around and continuing into the cave. They continue into the cave, their torches slowly running out.
“Hey, Dream, can’t you speak up? I swear, this silence is going to kill me,” Nightmare says, his voice breaking Dream’s concentration.
“Sorry, Nightmare. I’m just scared that a mob will hear us and just come over.” Dream says, “Besides, I honestly find the silence a bit relaX—“
Dream’s scream echoes throughout the cave as he vanishes over the edge of a cliff. Nightmare darts forwards, grabbing Dream’s hand.
“PULL ME UP, HURRY,” Dream exclaims, panic overtaking his voice. Nightmare pulls Dream up and tries to calm his raging heart. He calms down and looks down at Dream. Nightmare lets out a snort, before they both begin laughing, the threat far behind them by now. He pulls Dream up before hugging him and patting his back. He turns around and looks over the edge.
“It’s so dark.. I feel like it’s bottomless,” Nightmare mutters, looking over the edge. He gets an idea and gets one of his torches and throws it over. It goes a good 20-40 feet before hitting stone. He and Dream look down before he says,
“I think we’ve found our new home.”
