Chapter Text
That night you went to bed, exhausted from work as usual.
“No way, It looks more like a duck with a pirate hat! A pirate duck!” The boy exclaimed, pointing at the drifting cloud.
”Are you serious? No way! It’s a cat with a long neck!” You retorted back.
”That’s silly! Duck pirate!”
“Cat giraffe!”
”Duck pirate!”
”Why pirate anyways? Pirates are scary.” You said, thinking about all the times you heard about the stories on how terrifying pirates were, terrorising innocent citizens and killing people.
”Pirates are the coolest. That’s why I’m going to travel the seas to be the King Of Pirates!”
“But you can’t even swim! Devil-fruit eaters won’t last a day on the ocean!”
”Well that’s a different story, but when I’m stronger and tougher, I’m going to set sail just like my big brother Ace.”
”The one who left a year ago?”
”Yeah, Ace is super strong! He left to be a pirate and I’m going to be stronger and better than him. He’s super cool, too. I wish you could’ve met him.”
”Well, once you set sail are you going to come back?” You asked.
”Pirates don’t return home! Their home is on the sea!”
”So once you leave you’ll never return?”
”I’ll come back one day, when I’m the King Of Pirates of course!” He smiled widely at you, because the boy was made of rubber, his smile literally stretched across his face.
”When your the King Of Pirates, remember to come back to me, okay Luffy? Promise me that!” You said, sticking out your pinky finger towards him.
“It’s a promise!” He said, interlocking his pinky with yours.
You woke up and immediately jolted straight up.
”Was that a dream?”
You yawned and rubbed your eyes. “Whatever, I need to get ready earlier for today’s event anyways.” You said, scratching your head.
”Hey guys! Hope you’re ready for today!” You joyfully said, as Shoji and Rin walked into the bar together.
”I’m so fucking nervous. There’s gonna be tons of customers today for sure!” Shoji anxiously said, squinting his eyes.
”Well our island’s night festival does only happen every five years, it’s special to all the islanders here.” Rin said.
“This would mark my second time seeing the festival, then.” You said, remembering the first time you saw it at 18 years old.
Being born in Foosha Village in the East Blue, you had been born weaker and more fragile than other children. Only at the age of 14 were you able to finally walk and run without collapsing.
The medical condition you had impacted your life in so many negative ways it hurt too much to even recall. Every day was agonising pain as you lived off of painkillers but it could never amount to the longing hurt you had of wanting to be with other children, running free and doing what regular kids could do.
Being in that small village limited the amount of medical help, and at age 16 your condition had suddenly worsened so drastically you had to move away for better medical attention to the island you lived at now, in the Grand Line.
By some miracle, you fully recovered at the age of 19, just after your parents had died. Memories of your childhood were heavily suppressed and the few memories you had were the long days in the hospital.
Your parents made a living in the bar you now owned, and you couldn’t be happier now.
”I’m really excited to see the star formations!” You said, smiling softly.
Luffy’s POV
“Are you really sure about this, Luffy?” Chopper asked.
”It’s not like you to pass up the offer of an island, and on top of that going back? This is really unlike you!” The doctor added on.
”But Nami said it’s okay, didn’t she?” Luffy said, frowning with his arms crossed.
”Yeah I checked, our log pose won’t be affected as long as we don’t stay too long.” Nami reassured.
They all knew they were going back to the island no matter what, since their captains decision was always final and never changed.
”Yahoo! I’ll go call her and tell her we’re going back then!” Luffy said, running into his room.
”Her?” Everybody paused for a second in shock.
Your POV
“Ring….!Ring….!Ring…!” Your transponder snail rang loudly in your pocket.
”Oh, I’m sorry about this, I’ll get it later. Could you repeat your order, please?” You said, reaching for the snail to turn it off and turning back to the table of pirates.
“Don’t worry about it, sweetheart. You can go answer it, I’ll wait for you.” The red-haired pirate winked flirtatiously.
“This man is fucking terrifying, of all people why is one of the four emperors here today?!” You screamed internally.
You excused yourself and answered, “Hello?”
”Hey! It’s Luffy. We’re on our way back, just wanted to give you a heads up.”
“Already? That was fast!”
He laughed, “Before that, where are you from?”
”Where am I from? That’s a random question.”
“I’m from the East Blue, why?”
”Which village?”
”Foosha, but I don’t really have any memory of that place. Why?”
The next thing you heard was a loud gasp.
”Y/N? Are you Y/N?” He quickly asked.
”Yeah, how’d you know?” You asked, feeling a little weirded out.
”8 years ago, you left and never came back. I’ve been trying to find you forever!” He said.
”What? How did you know that?”
”Its me! Luffy, did you forget me? We met when we were 15! Remember? We always hung out and watched the clouds together and you made a promise with me!”
”Im sorry Luffy, that might or might not be true I can’t confirm that. I’ve lost almost all my memory from around then but I’ll have to admit, you do seem familiar to me” You said honestly.
You tried really hard to remember those memories, but they never seemed to return.
“That’s okay if you don’t remember now, I’ll be reaching around night time I think. Would it be okay if we met up?” He asked.
”I think I could squeeze in some time in, see you later I guess?”
“Okay then! See you Y/N!” He cheerfully said, hanging up.
It felt so strange to have him call you by your name, especially when you never gave it to him. But it would be good to find out how you were like back then, not to mention Luffy of all people knew you! Everything just seemed a little hard to process at the moment.
”I’ll have to focus on today, It’s a big milestone afterall.”
