“Who is the most beautiful girl in all of Konoha? Who? Who?”
“Is it me?” Sakura asked as she entered the room.
Lee looked over his shoulder, smiling at her in greeting. “Oh! Hello Sakura!” He chuckled. “I was actually speaking to Menchi.” He gestured to his cat on the floor.
“Oh.”
Menchi blinked up at her before turning her attention to Lee's hands, batting at them to play.
“But do not worry! You certainly rank high as well!”
“Um thanks.”
The sound of a knife against the chopping board got her a little excited. Ridiculous? Sure. Did she care? No. Her boyfriend was in the midst of cooking something yummy she just knew it!
“Whatcha cookin’, Lee?” She stops in the kitchen doorway only to watch as Lee plates something then sets the platter unto the floor. Goddammit.
Menchi slinks past her feet towards the platter.
“I was finishing up Menchi’s meal! I am going to start on our dinner soon.” He smiled totally oblivious to her annoyance. “Would you mind washing some lettuce for me?”
“Sure.” She eyed the food on the floor…how the hell did he make cat food so appetizing?
It had been a long, long, long, looooong day at the hospital. Sakura wanted nothing more than to shower then snuggle up to Lee. She could maybe watch some trashy television while doing so. She knew he wouldn't mind.
The apartment is quiet when she enters, she shrugs thinking maybe Lee was already asleep. Upon further investigation this was the case. He looked so peaceful too. She smiles before leaning over to kiss him only to feel something swat at her. She blinked and a different pair of green eyes blinked back.
“Menchi?”
The cat stares at her before snuggling closer to Lee’s neck. She hadn’t noticed the cat nestled to him in the dark. Ugh.
“Silly question but if the apartment was on fire and you could only save me or the cat which would you pick?”
Lee blinked before staring at her in bewilderment. “Excuse me?”
“It’s just well, I never really noticed until recently how…much of a cat dad you are.” She let out a breath, watching Lee's reaction.
Lee just furrowed his brows. “Oh okay? Well, in that scenario I would choose to save you both and if I have to die then so be it.”
Sakura rolled her eyes. “That wasn’t an option!”
“Sakura- wait,” Lee paused, “Wait a minute. Are you jealous?”
“W-what?!”
Lee chuckled. “You are! You are jealous of Menchi!”
“No! I’m not jealous of your stupid pampered cat!”
Her boyfriend tutted at her. “Now, now…she is very smart, I will have you know.”
“Omygod.”
“Is that not, right?” He reached down to pick the cat up, holding her close to him. “My darling, Menchi! She is so smart and lovely! Her fur is light but soft!”
The damn cat just yammered back to him as if actually conversing back.
And maybe it was dumb but maybe he wasn’t too off…maybe she was a little jealous.
