Chapter Text

It had been six months. They were sitting out on the porch of their house as the full moon shined brightly above them. Sirius snapped a shot of it on his cell phone. Remus’ baby bump had grown significantly. Sirius rubbed Remus’ tummy fondly and thought about the child inside it. He wanted to give it a lovely childhood.

He thought about his childhood and shivered. He thought about the marks of the sharp manicured nails of his mother engraved on his cheek. He thought of the way in a fit of anger Walburga had held his neck angrily against the wall, red hot anger flashing in her eyes. He recalled the countless nights he spent hungry and alone. And then he remembered his mother’s crying face, the way she came back into his room at night, tears in her eyes, telling him that what she was doing was for his own good and promising to never treat him like that again. Sirius believed her, like a fool, only to be beaten up again the next day.

‘The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.’, he thought. What if he turned out to be like his mother? Abusive and manipulative. Or worse his father? Absolutely neglecting. He bit his lip. The child inside Remus certainly did not deserve that kind of childhood. No one did.

“What are you thinking about, my darling?”, Remus pulled Sirius into his neck and placed a sweet kiss on his head. Sirius didn’t say anything. He gently stroked Remus’ tummy humming a soft tune. “Moony.”, he said sharply. Tears began forming in his silver eyes. “What if I’m like them?” He asked him scaredly. Remus tilted his head towards him and smiled his lovely little smile.

“You’re nothing like them.”, he assured him, “You never were, you never will be.” These words still didn’t comfort him. “But Remus.”, he said, “That’s the only childhood I’ve ever known. My childhood was full of my fucking mother beating me up and my father sleeping with countless women and-”, he buried his face into Remus’ shoulder with a soft sob.

“Love.”, Remus held him close, “The kid in there,”, Remus smiled at him, “is going to love you. And you are going to love it. You are going to be the greatest father ever. I just know it.” Sirius looked up at him, “You think so?”

“I know so.”, Remus’ bright green eyes shimmered in the night. The moonbeams seemed to dance in them as they stared at Sirius. Sirius loved Remus. Sirius would love their child as much.

“Have I ever told you that I love you?”, he looked up at him.

“Sirius, darling, we’re married-”

“I love you so fucking much.”

“Simp.”

“FUCK. FUCK. FUCK.”, Sirius walked frantically down in the corridor. He was panicking, to say the least. Remus’ water broke that morning and Sirius had rushed them to the hospital in their car. Remus had been inside for almost an eternity now. Lily had gone inside instead of him because she was the only calm person right now.

That reminded him, James was in an even worse position than him. He had downed five cups of coffee in the last one hour. One cup of coffee made him bounce against the walls like a maniac. So one can only imagine what James was doing right now. He was stuck to the door of the room Remus and Lily were in while a nurse tried to convince him to go away.

“PRONGS, MATE, WHAT THE FUCK.”

“SIRIUS, YOU’RE HAVING A DAUGHTER.”

“I KNOW.”

“SHE IS COMING OUT IN THERE FROM REMUS.”

“I KNOW SHE IS.”

“I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE HER.”

“SAME.” James enveloped Sirius in a tight hug.

“I’m gonna get more coffee.”, James said to him. Not to exaggerate anything, but Sirius could see pure madness and chaos in James’ eyes and he knew that another cup of coffee wasn’t going to help that. “Mate, maybe don’t have more coffee.”, he tried to tell him.

“I need it.”, James’ eyes bulged out of his face. Sirius huffed and took out a bar of chocolate from his jeans and gave it to him. He knew sugar wasn’t going to help James either but it was better than coffee. Both the men spent another half an hour in bated breath until they heard a beautiful cry from inside the room.

The nurse finally allowed them to go in. In there lay Remus, in one of the blue hospital gowns with his eyes half-closed and his lovely face all sweaty. He went and kissed the top of his forehead. Beside him on a crib was the most beautiful person Sirius had ever seen. (Besides Remus obviously) The little girl was crying loudly and her eyes were shut.

“Fuck.”, Sirius murmured, wondering how he had made such a beautiful thing. He looked at Lily and the nurse, “Can I- Can I- pick her up?” Lily was crying tears of joy while the nurse nodded kindly. He gently cradled the lovely little angel in his arms and took her to Remus. “Moony.”, he murmured, “She’s beautiful.”

Remus finally opened his eyes and looked at the baby, “Fuck me. She is so fucking beautiful.”, he exclaimed softly. “You can’t be swearing in front of her.”, James entered the room and stood beside Sirius. “Oh but she is so beautiful.”, he bent over Remus. The baby finally opened her eyes and Sirius saw them- they were a bright shade of green, shimmering and glistening all over.

“She’s got your eyes.”, he nudged Remus.

“I wonder who she will look like in the future.”, he smiled.

“Remus what do you want to name her?”, Sirius looked at him.

“Aquila.”, Remus looked up at him.

“Aquila Andromeda Lupin.”, Sirius looked at the girl lovingly.
