Chapter Text
Engineer sipped his coffee and stared at the radio lying on his workbench.
Engineer really, REALLY wasn’t in the mood to fix up Scout’s outrageously toasty radio, especially not after last night’s fiasco, but he wanted to stay true to his word.
He sighed, then began to take it apart, unscrewing the melted screws to the best of his ability.
Scout barged his way into the place, and hovered over Engie’s shoulders.
“Hey, when do ya think the freakin’ radio will be all done, I was gonna show Pyro some of my tapes. Turns out they’re REALLY uneducated on good music, heh.” Scout pestered.
“It’ll probably take the rest of the day. This thing was absolutely cooked. You say Pyro flamed it by accident?”
“Yeah, accidentally got onto some really loud station and they went freakin’ apeshit”
“I see”
It was quiet for a minute or two, which was a record for Scout.
“Boy, I bet snipes is PISSED at you after last night’s shitshow!” Scout remarked, to the texan’s dismay.
“Probably.” The engineer got noticeably nervous, and looked almost somber.
“I should go apologize to him”
Engineer got up from his chair and walked towards the door.
“Hey what happened to you fixing my radio??”
Scout yelled.
“I’ll get to it after I apologize, sorry Scout.”
Engineer said before leaving.
Engineer made his way to Sniper’s van, it was in the same place as it was last night.
But it looked like it had been knocked over by something, as it was lying on its side, with cracked windows.
“Oh no….”
Engineer swiftly ran over to the van for a closer inspection.
There were large claw marks on the door, like a dinosaur had come over and took a slice at it. They penetrated the metal and you could see inside the van.
“Dear god what happened here??”
The Texan looked for a way in on the lopsided van before deciding to use the claw marks to his advantage.
He whacked at the weak parts of the metal using his wrench, causing it to create a large but very sharp hole for him to climb into.
“I’m so sorry Sniper”
He whispered to himself before carefully making his way into the van.
Inside the van, it looked like there had been a tornado in there.
The fridge was ransacked, game that the hunter was saving for later was devoured, leaving only small scraps of fat.
The vegetables and fruit were left untouched however, and were scattered around the floor from whatever caused the van to land on its side.
Engineer moved around the small van in horror, watching his step so as not to re-tip the place.
Engineer looked over at Sniper’s bed, and saw that it was shredded into ribbons. The bed was crimson with dry blood on it, and on the floor next to it was human teeth, along with a pair of pliers.
He walked over and begrudgingly picked up the teeth. Some of the teeth still had their roots on them, while others looked like they had come out naturally. Engineer could tell by the abnormally large canines that they belonged to Sniper.
In the front of the van, the steering wheel was lying on the floor, chewed up like a dog's toy. There was a sharp tooth stuck in part of it. However, the most concerning of all, at least to engineer in that moment, was that all of the Sniper's stuff was still there.
His guns were all still there, just scattered across the ground, and his kukri was lying not too far from the weaponry.
If a person had come in here, they would’ve stolen something more valuable, wouldn’t they?
“Ether a dog got loose in here and Sniper also caught some kind of mouth disease, or-“
Engineer didn’t want to finish the thought. It didn’t make sense. It wasn’t rational.
“I’ll get the doc to check it out”
Engineer lifted the mattress off its wireframe and begrudgingly put the teeth in his pockets.
The engineer began dragging the mattress back to the base.
“Ja, zhat’s Sniper’s blood alright. Blood type matches”
The doctor confirmed, to the engineer’s dismay.
“That’s what I was afraid of…” he muttered.
“So, you said that there were teeth on the ground next to zhee bed?”
“Yeah, it’s weird. I’m pretty sure they’re Sniper’s too”
Engineer pulled out the teeth from his pockets and laid them on the table.
“Hm. Zhey definitely are Sniper’s.”
He examined the canines.
“I’ve noticed that his teeth looked to have gotten bigger somehow. It doesn’t make a lot of sense, Sniper is a fully grown adult, at least as far as I know , his teeth should’ve all come in by now.”
“He got bitten by a wolf, right?” Engineer asked, more of a statement than a real question.
“Ja, I’m shocked zhat he didn’t catch rabies!”
Engineer looked both ways, checking the surrounding area. They were alone.
“Do you think Pyro was right about him turning into a werewolf?”
Normally, Medic would’ve laughed at the question. But Medic had a concerned look on his face instead.
“Well.. I noticed that the blood had strangely high amounts of testosterone in it, along with some weird chemicals I couldn’t identify. It would explain his strange aggression, but as far as I know, he isn’t going through puberty.”
That didn’t help make the engineer feel any better.
“This is so strange.”
“Ja, I never realized that Sniper was just a really old teenager.”
“I doubt that’s the answer here doc”
Suddenly, they heard Scout come crashing in with Pyro, both out of breath and trying to get words out(or rather murmurs in the case of Pyro) at the same time.
“Woah woah, calm down you two. Now Scout, what’s the matter?”
The Scout, even while looking panicked and out of breath, managed to carve a large smirk on his face.
“We told you so”
“Huh?”
“Go look at the tv”
The engineer and the doctor followed the two into the tv room, where a small tv was playing the news.
“Breaking news: the town of teufort has experienced a massacre of over 20 people, 10 injured, at the hands of what the citizens a “wolf like monster”, as seen on this police sketch here-“
It flashed a drawing of what looked like a large, monstrous but boney wolf-like creature. It was wearing ripped clothes, but on the right arm of the shredded jacket, lo and behold, was the Sniper's crosshair emblem.
“Oh no. There’s no way”
“You saw it yourself Engie”
“But-, but- it makes no sense….”
Engie sputtered, desperately trying to come up with a reason for it, even though he knew it was worthless.
They sat there quiet for a moment as the tv buzzed with commercials.
“So he’s in teufort eh?”
He turned to Medic.
“If we were to bring him back, would you be able to make some kinda cure?”
“Hm. Let’s go with perhaps.”
“Engie, are you sure we should go get him? He’s a freakin’ werewolf! You wanna get ripped apart?”
“Well, maybe he’s back to normal now? His changes don’t seem to be based on anything, he could be perfectly okay by now.”
“Maybe”
Sniper was, in fact, back to normal.
Though he wasn’t doing too well.
When he finally woke up for the third time since the bite, he was covered in blood, and had a human arm in his mouth, which he frankly spat out.
“GAGH- WHAT THE HELL?”
Sniper looked at himself. His clothes were somehow even worse then last time, and every part of his body was red with blood. He felt overly full, like he had just ate a full thanksgiving dinner and he was going to vomit.
“Oh please don’t tell me…”
He already knew what he had done, and he started to puke his guts out at the realization.
After he was done vomiting most of what he ate from when he was transformed, he looked around the area. He seemed to have left off in a forest of sorts outside of a town. He walked towards the town and realized where he was.
He was in Teufort, and everyone seemed to be in a flurry to get out.
“Oh god don’t tell me I caused this”
He saw the news reporters on the scene, and could see the defiled corpses they were filming closely. He couldn’t make out what they were hearing, but he was still starting to panic.
Then he heard a familiar voice echoing from the town.
“Hey, Mundy! Can you hear us? We’re here to help you”
He froze for a moment, and then started to run away as fast as he could from them.
