Chapter Text

The ten people who aren’t normally supposed to be in The Owl House somehow felt sentimental over it. They looked at the ingredients and as much as they wanted to go home, they couldn’t bring themselves just to mix them together and create the potion.

“Are we really ready to do this?” Akko asked.

“I don’t know, are you?” Luz asked.

“That’s why I’m asking.”

“Have you become attached to this place?”

“Maybe I have.”

“We’ll still have the memories, right?” Amanda asked.

“Of course, you will,” Professor Chariot said.

“How do you know that?”

“Nothing on that page mentions losing your memories of the world you were trapped in.”

“I’m not so sure I can trust a page from an old spellbook, but okay.”

“It’s the only thing we have.”

“And it’s going to work, I believe in it,” Hannah said.

“Whatever you say, love.”

“Wait, you two are together?” Barbara asked.

“Yeah, we have been since my teammates and professor got here.”

“How did I just find out now?”

“With your head caught up in books for so long, I can see how you missed it.”

“We returned all of our books a week ago though.”

“I guess you just weren’t paying attention.”

The rest of them nodded at the statement suggesting they knew as well.

“You all knew?”

“Well, it was pretty obvious,” Lotte said.

“I’m getting the feeling you don’t really want to leave,” Luz said.

“We do, it’s just…” Amanda trailed off.

“It’s what?”

“It’s hard to leave a place you’ve grown fond of.”

“You better not be making us regret finding this for you in the first place.”

“Huh?”

“We ventured into the restricted section of the library for this page.”

“We traveled across The Boiling Isles for the ingredients, let us have a moment,” Akko said.

“I know, but you need to stop overthinking this too much, I never saw you to be the type to act rationally in a situation, especially regarding your friends.”

“But you’re my friend too.”

“I’m happy you think that, but your judgment here is not what I expected.”

“You expected me just to go and make it without a second thought?”

“To be frank, yeah.”

“I do think things through sometimes, I’m not dumb.”

“So tell me, what are you thinking?”

“I want to go back home, but this place was just as much of a home. It’s cozy and reminds me of a cottage our family used to stay in.”

Luz was just tempted to go over to the table and mix the ingredients together herself, but the three adults in the room stopped her by standing in front of the table.

“They have to do this themselves, you can’t intervene,” Eda whispered.

“I can’t give them a nudge?”

“No, getting attached can make it harder for the person trapped to bring themselves to leave, so you can’t cause a sudden shift,” Professor Chariot whispered.

“I’m starting to lose patience.”

“Just relax, everything will be fine,” Lilith whispered.

“Hey, what are you guys whispering about over there?” Amanda asked.

“Nothing!” they exclaimed in unison.

“It doesn’t look like nothing, but okay.”

Suddenly, someone walked up to the table and took the liberty of finally mixing the ingredients together in a pot of water to cancel out the toxic effects that any of them could’ve had. She portioned out the potion for ten people. The rest looked at her in shock and amazement.

“Since none of you had the courage to bring yourselves to make it, and it was my fault any of this happened in the first place, I did it myself,” Diana said.

This girl loves someone like me?

“So what if I do?”

I said that out loud?

“I have so many flaws though,” Akko said.

“Do you think that matters to me?”

“I always thought you would prefer someone as flawless as you.”

“First of all, I’m not flawless, and second if someone was too similar to me, then it would never work.”

“How do you know?”

“You know, sometimes you need to take a risk and abandon the safe route. I know I’m usually quiet, but that doesn’t mean I can’t see chemistry,” Jasminka said.

“Building a relationship is much like building anything else, it doesn’t exist without a foundation,” Constanze wrote on her board.

“I think what they’re saying is just get together already,” Amanda said.

“This is nice to see and all, but you guys are wasting time, discuss this when you get back home,” Luz said.

They each slowly and reluctantly picked up their portion of the potion.

“No backing out now, I’m going to cast the spell and we’re all going to drink the potion in the order we came in,” Diana said.

She started casting the spell as Akko drank the potion, then she drank it herself, followed by Amanda, Sucy, Hannah, Lotte, Barbara, Constanze, Jasminka, and Professor Chariot. Luz watched as they all disappeared from The Owl House one by one.

“I’ll miss them,” Luz said.

“I’m sure we all will,” Eda said.

“You’ve all been gone for over a week, anyone care to explain?” Professor Finnelan asked.

“It was my fault,” Diana said.

“No, it was mine,” Akko defended her.

Everyone started claiming that it was their fault, so Professor Finnelan made them all share in the punishment. They had to take extra classes, clean up the campus, and switch shifts in patrolling for a week to make up for the week they lost. The extra classes were taught by Professor Chariot since she was also involved. It took a little while for them to get back to being able to use more than just one type of magic, but somehow the skills they learned carried over.

“I can somehow play the piano and guitar, and I never knew how to play them before,” Akko said.

“The last time you were even on a piano was when you were trying to squash that love bee,” Diana said.

“That was a long time ago, and I wasn’t even trying to play it.”

“Exactly my point, it seems that magic we learned in The Boiling Isles carried back home. Before, healing magic was kind of difficult for me to execute on larger subjects, but now it’s fairly easy.”

“I can make vines and other plants grow,” Amanda said.

“And I can create illusions of certain objects,” Hannah said.

“What about the others?” Akko asked.

“I know Constanze can build things quicker than before. I think Jasminka might be able to tame beasts, she can control the one inside her better at least,” Amanda said.

“Huh, Sucy is much better at potion-making and Lotte can see visions into the future, albeit they’re very blurry and only tell the near rather than the far future, but still.”

“Barbara can make objects rise off or out of the ground pretty easily,” Hannah said.

“Everything about that world was strange, and magic works in mysterious ways, so I’ll take this as a win.”

“That’s the beauty of it, you never know what to expect,” Diana said.

“So we’re chalking this journey up to ‘unexpected’?” Amanda asked.

“That’s one word for it at least,” Akko said.

“Well, at least I know to never try casting that spell again,” Diana said.

“Stop beating yourself up over it, mistakes happen.”

“Now you’re saying that, you all were chastising me over it before.”

“But you fixed it, so what’s the problem?”

“Just because I did doesn’t mean it doesn’t bear over my conscience.”

“Then let’s do something that’ll take your mind off of it.”

“Like what?”

“Take me out.”

“You mean on a date, right?”

“Of course, I mean on a date, I don’t think I would ever want to experience getting beaten up by you.”

“Why would I do that in the first place?”

“You’re the one who asked, now let’s go, unless these two want to make it a double date?”

“No, you go, we’ll have our own date,” Amanda said.

Akko dragged Diana out of the building and Amanda walked off with Hannah in the opposite direction. Despite being two very different places, the ten people who were trapped in The Boiling Isles found that it and Luna Nova had a couple of things in common, those being, love and magic, which are two very mysterious yet beautiful things, and at least to them, made both worlds worth living in.
