Chapter Text
Another star filled night, and another night the Devil Kcalb spends endlessly gazing at the stars. It had been a while since he had gazed at the star outside his room, mainly due to Ater and Arbus’s nagging to “taking it easy”. Though he knew the two cat demons meant well, he was thoroughly sick of all the jabs at his age or his ability. To him, it was nice to have some peace and quiet to him himself.
“Enjoying the view, are we?” A voice calmly said.
Etihw makes their way to Kcalb, a rare sight considering how not so secret his stargazing place was.
“Can’t sleep?” Kcalb replied.
“Perhaps. Or maybe I wanted to know why you like staying up all night.” Etihw coyly remarked.
Kcalb only scoffed at her remark, as the two started absently at the starry sky with the occasional starr flying across at great speed.
“Have you heard about what the children are up to?” Etihw said, breaking the silence.
“No. Have they been causing trouble again?” Kcalb replies like parents bracing themselves for bad news.
“Apparently they have been having visitors in their dreams.”
“What kind of visitors?”
“Their previous incarnations.” Etihw said bluntly.
Kcalb raises an eyebrow in both shock and disbelief. He had known that he would eventually have to tell the kids about their past lives as underlings to a war effort, but it appears that they beat him to the punch,
“I see. What do they have about their visitors?”
“Surprisingly, they appear to have enjoyed talking about them.” Etihw answered
“That is rather odd. And disturbing.” Kcalb remarked.
He knew the sheer amount of horrid things both he and his underlings have done during the war effort, and hearing that the girls had handled these dream meetings on their own is a bit of a relief on his part.
“Apparently Yosafire got her’s first and then everyone else afterwards.” Etihw noted.
“Figures she would be the to start this.” Given how much trouble she finds herself in.” Kcalb coldy remarked, taking his attention back to the stars.
“Says the old man who had his life saved by her.”
Kcalb grew irritated by deciding to say anything. Sure he hear the horror stories of her trouble making ways from Greif, he technically still owns her his life.
“Yeah. Guess she really does take after Yosaflame.” Kcalb remarked.
A silence sprouts between the two deities as they simply watch the night sky in all of it’s vastness. That was before Etihw broke the silence.
“You know, I’m starting to see why you like looking at the stars.”
“Why’s that?”
“Perhaps it's to remind yourself of how vast the world really is.”
“If that's the answer you came up with.” Kcalb says, turning back to the courtroom’s door. “I’m going to bed.”
“Good night then.” Etihw remarked.
Kcalb renters Castle Blanc, leaving Etihw alone to gaze at the stars. She continues to do so, as if contemplating something before heading back to the castle.
“I wonder if they can see the world they sacrificed so much to create.” Etihw said to herself before exiting the courtyard.
