Chapter 2: Yelling Kix

Notes:

I was going to update this yesterday but I had to go to the doctor since i was feeling horrible. I'm going to the doctor again today so sorry if it seems a bit short.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ahsoka and Rex couldn’t do anything more than fear for their lives as Kix took them by the hand on a death grip and dragged them into a room. And they couldn’t do anything else than awkwardly stand there as Kix screamed his head off about condoms, and safe sex, and “irresponsible di’kuts”, and how this meant that clones were able to conceive and blah, blah, blah.

Rex was still in denial. Probably the test went wrong, or this was just a dream, or Kix was playing a prank on them. But he couldn’t deny the look of wonder and fear as Ahsoka gently put her hand over her belly.

For Force’s sake there’s a baby in there. My baby. I’m going to be a father.

He knew he shouldn’t act this way. He knew that if this were a normal situation, they should be tears of joy, and celebration. A baby. What did he know about babies? My baby.

At this point, Rex wasn’t fearful or scared. He was just plain shocked. He felt a pang of guilt that it was probably worse for Ahsoka, and pulled her into a hug. He didn’t feel worthy of touching her in any way but he needed the support. Or maybe he did.

Ahsoka sniffled against his chest. “You aren’t mad?”

He pulled her closer and started stroking her back lekku. He hated seeing her cry. “Of course not. This is my fault.”

She turned her face towards him, eyes now full of determination. “This is as much your fault as it is mine. We’ll figure something out”

Kix stopped his ranting to ask, “So I’m guessing you don’t want an abortion?”

“No!” Rex screamed, before he could think better of it. In reality, abortion was the best option because they were in the middle of a war, but this was their fault. Not the child’s. He or she didn’t deserve to die because of their stupid decisions.

Ahsoka turned to look at him. His heart suddenly filled with dread. Did she want an abortion? It was her body after all. But instead, her face turned into the sweetest smile he had ever seen, her eyes full of love, and she flung herself into his arms again.

“So I’m supposing you’re not giving up the child either?” Kix asked.

Ahsoka huffed. “Of course not. It’s our baby.”

That word immediately lifted a huge weight off his shoulders. At least Ahsoka wasn’t completely blaming it on him. In the back of his mind, he was just starting to panic, since the reality of the situation hadn't really begun to sink in. But he needed to remain strong for Ahsoka. He’s heard of pairs that leave the other person once they find out they’re pregnant, and he swore he would never do that, no matter how hard it got.

Kix ran a hand through his face, and Rex could swear he looked a thousand times older. “So are you going to tell the General?”

Whatever little fear Rex had managed to shove down rose up again. If Kix doesn’t kill me then the General certainly will. He was kriffed. He will probably never be able to get to meet the child.

Ahsoka, probably sensing his growing distress, sent a wave of calm towards him through the Force, and started running her hands through his hair. It didn’t really help but it eased down his nerves a little. Kix took the little pregnancy device and handed it over to Ahsoka.

Ahsoka looked towards Kix in confusion. “What do you want me to do with that?”

Kix smiled. “Keep it as a memory of today”

*****

Rex had asked Ahsoka if she wanted him to stay, once he had taken her to her quarters, but she said she needed some time alone. He couldn’t agree more, as he was also on the verge of panicking. After telling her to comm to him if she needed anything, (And her telling him she was okay) he practically sprinted back to his quarters and buried his face on his ‘pillow’.

For the longest time, he just stared at the blank gray metal wall of his quarters, fidgeting with his fingers, lost so deep in thought he probably wouldn’t have noticed a seppie attack outside until a lucky shot blew off the side of the ship.

He curled up in a corner of his bed and clutched his pillow to his face. In the back of his mind he was aware he probably looked like a little kid but he couldn’t bring himself to care. He felt like a little kid. Insecure, afraid, lost. And to think there will be a little kid running along the halls of the Resolute. My kid.

Rex knew he was happy. He was even excited at the idea of raising a family with Ahsoka. He had imagined it time and time again, but always told himself it was impossible. Then, he met Cut, who had found a life beside the GAR, and his hopes rose once again. The fact that it was actually happening was baffling. He could already feel the undying love for a baby that was probably not as big as a bean yet. He softly smiled at the sight of Ahsoka holding a tiny baby in her arms that Rex could call his.

Kriff he didn’t think clones were able to conceive.

He needed to get a hold of himself. What did he know about parenting? Pregnant woman? Raising a kid in the middle of a war? He took a holopad and started researching about what he could do to help Ahsoka. Nothing was really helpful, except that she needed to eat a lot of nutritious food, and not agitate herself too much. How was he supposed to do that, when the only thing there was to eat were ration bars? How was she supposed to keep still when they were in war?

They needed to figure this out. He knew she wouldn’t like keeping still, but they couldn’t endanger her or the baby, just for the want of some action. Rex knew he needed more support in convincing her of this, but he doubted Kix or himself could keep her still. Maybe I can ask the General and-

Oh for Force’s sake how am I going to tell the General? The men? I’m kriffed.

He groaned into his pillow once more and sent a quick message to Ahsoka to talk.

*****

Ahsoka was excited. Yes, she knew they could kick her out of the Order, the Kaminoans could decommission Rex, her masters would be extremely disappointed and she wouldn’t be able to serve her men on the battlefield, but she was excited. She closed her eyes and put her hands over her belly. She could feel the little Force presence in the Force. She did some research, and she knows her baby already has a heart. Ahsoka laughed out loud and put her hands to her mouth. A baby! Of course she was terrified, of the consequences, of the child itself, but she was so extremely happy inside. She had feared Rex wouldn’t want the baby, but he did, and the thought made her so very happy. They could be a family, all three of them. Ahsoka grinned again and stifled a laugh.

She knew Rex was probably freaking out about this, and that he was probably a lot more nervous about this than her, but she was always more chill about things he’s always been more chill, but she knew Rex was happy too. She could feel it in the Force. Would Anakin be happy too?

As much as she hated to admit it, she was constantly seeking Anakin’s approval. She couldn’t imagine how shattered she would feel if Anakin hated her for this. Not that he has anything to say for himself, going off and marrying Padme. If he as much as mentioned the attachment rule, she had plenty of blackmail to use against him.

Talking about attachments, she wasn’t really concerned about the Council. For once, they were in the middle of the war, and she didn’t really see them that often. They couldn’t kick her out, because she was too valuable for the war effort, and even if they tried, she knew Anakin would fight tooth and nail for her.

She was more worried about two things. The longnecks and the men. She needed to find a way to protect Rex from the Kaminoans, because she was sure that if they ever found out about her state, they would decommission Rex as soon as they could. She was also worried for the men, not because of their approval, (She knew they would be thrilled) but of their safety in the battlefield. So many of them could die if she wasn’t there to protect them especially in the latest months of pregnancy.

Her comm beeped, breaking her out of her thoughts. It was Rex telling her to meet them in the medbay. She softly smiled as she got out of bed, grinning as she happily made her way through the Resolute.

*****

Kix had never done so much research in his life. He read any and every single blog on Togruta pregnancy he could find. He got a decent amount of data ready, so he was relieved at Rex’s request to meet in the medbay.

Rex came in, looking a little bit disheveled, and suddenly very tired, and sat down in a bed in a separate room. A few minutes later, Ahsoka came in looking very happy. At least I have someone with a level head.

Kix sat down on the opposite bed, and started talking “First of all, you’re going to have to tell the General.”

Rex paled at that and Ahsoka looked down and started fidgeting. “Um, why?”

Kix rolled his eyes but responded anyway. “First of all, he would be heartbroken if you ever hid something this important from him. He cares too much for the too of you to ever deny you anyway.”

Rex looked up in confusion at that but Kix kept talking. “Also, you’re going to need very good nutrition if you want a healthy baby. Ration bars won’t cut it. Plus, you’re going to need a reason for a leave.”

Ahsoka crossed her arms at that and huffed. “Listen Kix, I’m going to be out there in the field fighting in every way I can. I’m not going to let my condition hold me back. Men could die if I’m not there and I won’t let that happen.”

Kix ran a hand through his face and sighed. They are going to kill me before the tinnies ever do I swear. “Another reason to tell General Skywalker, he might be one of the only people that can actually hold you back.”

Ahsoka seemed ready to rebuttal, but Kix cut her to it, “Also, you might need to tell the men.”

Rex flinched. “I don’t think that’s a good idea-”

“Rex the vod’e always finds out. It’s better for them to hear it from you than for it to be turned into gossip. They’ll keep it a secret from the Kaminoans if we ask them to. Besides, if something happens to Ahsoka and you’re not there, we can at least count on the men to take good care of her.”

Rex groaned and crossed his arms but said nothing. “Who else should we tell?” Ahsoka asked.

“Probably Senator Amidala and General Kenobi. General Plo too if you want to.” Kix answered.

Rex frowned. “That’s a whole lot of people.”

“Trustworthy people though, it’ll be alright.” Ahsoka said.

“Cody and Wolffe are going to karking kill me.”

Ahsoka stood up with determination on her face. “Guess we should start with Master first. You coming?”

Rex immediately paled white but nodded and slowly, (Extremely slowly if you asked Kix) stood up and took her hand. Kix raised an eyebrow at that but didn’t comment. He should’ve guessed they would be more open about this after the whole ordeal anyways. Ahsoka dragged him across the medbay, and before they exited, Rex looked back with a panicked face, and Kix could not hold back his smirk as he called out;

“I’m not patching you up if the General uses you for lightsaber practice!”

Rex sent Kix a dirty look as Ahsoka laughed out loud, dragging him out of the medbay.

My cousin is currently pregnant, so I ask her question like crazy which she answers, passing off it off a teenagy curiosity.
