Chapter Text

Waverly’d had enough of that day. Seeing all of Purgatory turn against her and her sister. Finding out Willa was betraying them. Watching Nicole get shot and not being able to help her. Losing Willa. Escape a demon through the woods. How come all of that had happened in the past twelve hours?

Driving back to the homestead felt like heaven, and that said a lot. Waverly didn’t exactly feel at home in her childhood house, but at least she had a bed to rest over there. She got out of her Jeep and basically dragged her feet up the stairs, opening the door dramatically and sighing before walking inside the house.

Waverly kicked off her boots next to the door after closing it and started making her way to the stairs when she finally noticed Nicole leaning against the kitchen table.

“Hi.” Nicole waved, fully standing.

Waverly was still a bit shocked by the unexpected but much appreciated presence of the redhead, so she just froze in place.

“I hope you don’t mind, the door was open and-” Nicole started rambling “You really shouldn’t leave your door unlocked, by the way. Especially not with all the-”

“Baby! Oh my god!” Waverly finally woke from her trance, racing towards Nicole, her arms wide open as she threw herself onto a hug “You’re okay!”

“Yeah, just not that okay, Waves.” Nicole answered in a grunt, which was the only noise her bruised ribs allowed her to emit through the sharp pain caused by Waverly’s impact.

“I’m so sorry.” Waverly instantly pulled away, eyes wide with concern.

She kept her hands on the redheads arms, holding her very carefully this time around as she scanned her body. Nicole leaned back again, resting against the table as her hands protectively covered her wound.

“You- Are you…” Waverly stuttered, her eyes restlessly roaming through Nicole’s face “How are you feeling?”

Nicole opened her mouth, trying to elaborate a sentence, but nothing came out. After a few seconds of trying, a chuckle escaped her lips. Turns out finding out the town you just moved into is infested with demons going after your kind-of-girlfriend’s family was a lot to process.

“I’m sorry, that was a stupid question.” Waverly blushed, looking down and retracting her hands from Nicole’s body, crossing her arms.

“Waves, I-I…” Nicole sighed knowing Waverly wouldn’t believe what she was about to say “I’m okay. Really.”

Nicole reached for the brunette’s arms, pulling her closer until their foreheads were nearly touching, hoping their closeness would bring some comfort to Waverly.

Nicole had a shitty day, she wasn’t gonna lie. All of Purgatory had had a shitty day, after all. But she knew nothing could compare to how hard that day had been for Waverly and Wynonna. They had just lost a sister. A sister they thought they’d just gotten back. Despite being a different scenario, Nicole knew how awful it was to lose family members.

“Waverly,” Nicole whispered, chasing the other woman’s eyes. “I mean it. Just a little bruised, but I’m fine.”

Waverly looked back up, tears welling her eyes as she uncrossed her arms and carefully placed them on Nicole’s shoulders. The redhead instantly wrapped her arms around Waverly’s waist.

“How?” Waverly’s voice cracked.

Nicole felt her heart crack a little along. She moved forward just enough to press her lips to Waverly’s forehead and kept her close afterwards.

“With the right people by my side.” Nicole stated with a small smile, hoping to cheer Waverly up.

Waverly looked down shyly, her head tilting up slightly offering Nicole a small smile.

“We’re not the right people, Nicole,” She said, feeling like she needed to give Nicole the opportunity to walk out of the whole mess that was the Earp family “We’re some kind of a demon magnet, actually.”

“I’m not quitting on you, you know?” Nicole said, pulling Waverly’s body back against hers, trying to ignore the pain that shot through her ribs.

“I had a feeling you’d say something like that,” Waverly mumbled, pressing a kiss to Nicole’s cheek “Now, I can see you’re hurting. Let me take care of you, please.”

“I’m okay, Waves. Really.”

Waverly tilted her head down a little, looking up at Nicole with her lost puppy eyes and a pout.

“Please?” Waverly tried again, clasping her hands together in front of her chest to amplify the bribe.

“Ugh,” Nicole leaned forward, quickly pecking Waverly’s pout away “I can’t say no to that .”

“Yay!” She cheered as she pulled away from the other woman.

“Come back.” Nicole groaned at the lack of contact.

Waverly giggled, placing both her hands on Nicole’s shoulders and kissing her forehead softly.

“I’ll be right back.” Waverly whispered, pulling away again and running towards the stairs “Promise!” She yelled as she made her way up the stairs.

Nicole shook her head with a smile and leaned back and adjusted her position on the table as she waited for Waverly to return. She lifted her sweater a little to check on her bruises,  frowning at the look of them.

When Waverly walked back into the kitchen, Nicole was still inspecting the affected area. She pouted and walked back up to the redhead with a small pot of ointment on one of her hands.

“Hey,” Waverly whispered just to make sure Nicole knew she was back. “Can I take a look at that?”

Nicole smiled at the other woman and nodded, keeping her shirt up, exposing the affected area.

Waverly stepped closer to Nicole, her free hand hovering over the bruised area before settling on the unaffected area of the other woman’s rib cage. Waverly instantly felt guilt take over her. Nicole was like that because of her. Nicole actually got hurt because of her.

“I’m so sorry,” She said, her eyes still on the bruises “I shouldn’t have dragged you into this mess.”

“You didn’t drag me into it.” Nicole said pretty much naturally.

“Nicole, look at you,” Waverly looked into her eyes “You got hurt. Actually hurt.”

“Waves,” Nicole placed a soothing hand on the brunette’s arm “I’m a cop. Even if it weren’t for you, I’d have to protect the town.”

Waverly sighed and nodded, her hands running through Nicole’s side carefully as she allowed herself to feel a bit more relaxed.

“Sure, having you makes me want to protect it even more, though.” Nicole smiled at Waverly.

Waverly smiled back at Nicole, her eyes full of endearment.

“And you’re really great at doing your job.” She said, starting to unscrew the ointment to apply it on Nicole’s bruise.

“Anything for my kind-of-girlfriend.” Nicole giggled.

“Nicole I-”

“Don’t worry, Waves,” Nicole reassured her “We’ll talk about it later.”

Waverly sighed, feeling a little relieved. It’s not that she didn’t want to be Nicole’s girlfriend, she really, really wanted that. But for some reason, it was really hard for her to tell Nicole what she wanted or how she felt, she just made sure the other woman knew it by her actions.

She placed a quick kiss on Nicole’s cheek before starting to apply the ointment.

“My poor, brave baby.” Waverly said, very carefully dabbing the cream on Nicole’s bruise.

“We sure do a lot of patching each other up these days.” Nicole looked up with a small smile.

“Yeah,” Waverly smiled back, “When there are so many other things we should be doing.”

A heavy atmosphere filled the room after Waverly’s suggestion. Both women looked at each other, eyes full of desire, until they both couldn’t stand it anymore.

Waverly dropped the pot on the table and moved her hand to Nicole’s neck. pulling her in for a hungry kiss. Nicole quickly placed her hands on Waverly’s hips, pulling her a little bit closer as the kiss progressed.

Waverly’s hands started roaming through Nicole’s body as if they had a life of their own. She just wanted to feel that Nicole was there, that she was alive and that she hadn’t given up on her. Her mind was so focused on her wants that she completely forgot about the other woman’s injury as her hands started drifting higher into her shirt.

“Ah!” Nicole hissed in pain, ending their kiss.

“Sorry.” Waverly said, pulling her hands away from Nicole.

“It’s alright,” Nicole reassured her “Still tender.”
