Chapter Text
“Heyyy, it’s so annoying, right?” T’sun pouted, head on Khein’a’s shoulder. “The prices for everything went up, you know. I nearly didn’t have enough for tonight.”
“It’s horrible,” chimed a voice from his other shoulder, equally as out-of-character. “If only we all had millions of gil like you, T’sun.” Yves had his head similarly resting on Khein’a, though due to his height, he landed more on the side of his head rather than his shoulder. Not to say that T’sun wasn’t equally as tall, he simply made more of an effort.
The pink-haired miqo’te in question shot forward, just enough to glare at the elezen. “You think you know sooo much, huh? Well you’re not getting anything from me! That’s for our house, idiot!” He snapped each sentence, giving Khein’a’s arm a tug to punctuate the last one. “You’re being too close, anyway!
“But I never get to see either of you!?” Yves whined, seeming like he was on the verge of tears all of a sudden. He pulled back on Khein’a’s other arm, but with significantly less force. “You live together, you know. I’m stuck in stupid Ishgard all day! It’s cold! The other stupid adventurers can walk around wearing nothing like…like it’s not cold! But it is! And, and that manner of dress - it’s not - it’s not — ”
Khein’a finally spoke up, heavily amused from his spectator position. “Come on, no fighting, you’re both pretty. Yves, try glamouring your gear sometime.” He gave a pat to Yves’ head to calm him down, pointedly ignoring the wildfires of jealousy igniting in T’sun’s eyes for now.
“Another round, please!”
The bartender gave him a look, and he simply gave a thumbs up.
The night had started out with five of them, the usual suspects having hopped through quite a few bars that night. They were either too busy, too flashy, or too…raunchy, those being especially hard to get Yves to enter, much less stay in. Happening upon a small venue in the goblet, they happily spent the rest of their night, playful banter followed by real banter as T’sun fell a little too into his cups. Tokiatsu and V’anila had exited earlier in the night, the latter entrusting Khein’a with the duty of getting the other two home. They were close, after all, there’s no way he would do anything to jeopardize their reputations.
…Right?
And so, with his elder brother out of earshot, Khein’a immediately proposes a drinking contest. It’s met with grumbles and reluctance, but he’s never been one to give up easily, and with his offer to cover the cost, the deal is sealed. Khein’a slid the bartender a wink, some extra gil, and a request for the strongest liquor they had in stock that night.
Yves and T’sun stood no chance at all; in fact, the contest ended before it began. One full drink had them at each other’s throats, yet now a second round had them both placated, now choosing to cling to the shorter miqo’te rather than fight each other. Meanwhile, Khein’a had barely even felt the alcohol in his system, the picture of sobriety.
It’s a good thing they hadn’t been betting.
Poking at each other had turned to whining at Khein’a about the other party, eventually managing to turn into some odd form of agreement about the state of the public in Limsa nowadays, as well as the current political climate of Ishgard. Interrupting a particularly riveting debate about “Th’ House of Lords is lame, right? That ugly Durendaire, with his stupid moustache…”, Khein’a piped up, clapping his hands together.
“Shall we head home, then? It’s getting late into the night, and I know it’s far past both of your bedtimes.” Two long whines followed, like spoiled kids who didn’t want to leave the playground. Yet somehow, Khein’a managed to coax them up and out of their seats, taking one to lean on each side, wrapping his arms around their waists for some sense of stability. The hardest part about it was the height difference, but at the very least his heels made up for some of it. The debates continued, some trailing off into nothing, the pair of them strangely seeming to get along more now than ever.
“Heeey. Your house is nice, by the way, T’sun…the decorations are kinda weird, though, y’know, like the plants on the wall in your kitchen…”
“Ugh, I know? And, like, um, the couch? It’s wrong, right? Hey, we should move stuff around, yknow, you can help, and…”
Now at the door to T’sun’s house, Khein’a managed to maneuver the door open, skillfully guiding them around the offending furniture before any ideas could come to fruition. As they both were none too kindly dropped off into bed, Khein’a quickly grabbed an extra blanket before joining them, planting himself in the middle.
“Hey, you’ll share a blanket with me, right?” T’sun looked at him with eyes that could nearly be called pathetic, yet when he looked back over his shoulder, Yves’ expression could have been considered the same. Khein’a sighed, shaking his head in mock hopelessness. “What am I ever going to do with the two of you?” Pulling T’sun closer only to be met with a whine from Yves, he quickly dragged him towards his other side. They both quickly clung onto him, as they had been all night, and in another few seconds they were both out cold.
What they would think waking up in bed with each other tomorrow morning was a bridge to cross when they got there.
