Chapter Text

It didn’t take long for Victoria to figure out that she had lost her daughter to her father. She should have known that her daughter’s relationship with Scott McCall was just asking for trouble. When she read over the divorce papers that the council had sent her, she screamed. Her daughter, the only person that would still connect her to the Argent family, wanted nothing to do with her or the Argents. She immediately took the paperwork to Gerard.

“What am I supposed to do? Without Allison or your son, I will just be another female hunter in a sea of hunters,” She growled.

Gerard read over the paperwork and let out his growl of anger. He knew that his son had been the inside man when it came to illegal hunts, looking at the wording in the papers. The council was aware of everything that had been going on within the Argent family.

“I can’t do anything. These came directly from the council, and they left no loopholes or questions. They even added a clause that neither you nor the Argent family can seek retribution. Did you know that the new Hale Alpha claimed him as a mate before you were ever married?” Gerard said, disbelief written all over his face as he looked up at her.

“What?!” Victoria exclaimed.

“According to this, Evelina Hale declared Christopher Argent as her mate two years before the arranged marriage between you two. After investigating wolves, they discovered how important mates are to a pack. They have left a clause that Alpha Hale can seek retribution at any time for the theft of her mate.”

Victoria huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.

“I don’t believe any of this nonsense. Christopher has been brainwashed by those wolves, and he is dragging my daughter along with him. How am I supposed to just let them corrupt my child?”

Gerard stood, slamming his fist down on his desk.

“We abide by the council because we never know who they have hidden within our ranks. They have declared Christopher and Allison untouchable, there is nothing we can do. Unless the Hales kill an innocent, you will have to deal with the fact that you will be returning to your family, as you are no longer going to be an Argent.”

Allison watched her father, as she had ever since she came to the Hale house. She walked into the living room after school and froze. Chris and Evelina were sitting on the couch, completely at ease. Allison had never seen her father completely at ease, especially with anyone other than her. Evelina was sitting with her head on his shoulder, shifting every so often to rub her nose along his jaw. Stiles and Peter had explained the neck and wrists were two of the heaviest scented areas on the body, which is why Stiles constantly had beard burn on his neck.

“Hello, Allison. Come in, we aren’t doing anything besides cuddling,” Evelina said, not moving to look at her. Chris, however, did look over at the doorframe.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude,” Allison said, walking further into the room.

“You aren’t intruding. If we didn’t want to be interrupted or seen, we would have stayed in our room. You smell like curiosity, you have questions,” Evelina said, shifting slightly so she could look at Allison.

The teen took a seat in the chair across from them, looking over at them again. Now that she had an unobscured view of them, she saw the way her father was holding the wolf. He had an arm tucked between her and the back of the couch, holding her tight against his side.

“Were you always this affectionate with each other?” She asked.

Evelina looked up at Chris and smiled.

“No, we weren’t. Once upon a time, we tried to kill each other. Even after my wolf decided that he was ours, we tried to fight against it. The affection came later, after a very close call with other hunters,” Evelina said, nosing down Chris’ neck for a moment.

“So, the scenting...Stiles and Peter explained some, but I’m still a little confused on how it affects humans.”

Evelina and Chris looked at each other. Chris smiled and nodded, running fingers down her cheek before turning to look at his daughter.

“Do you remember when you were younger, and I would run my fingers through your hair when you were upset?” He asked. She nodded in response. “That is what scenting is supposed to do. It brings comfort, tells us that we are safe and loved. When Evie runs her nose down my throat, I should be afraid, but it makes me feel content. The same goes for the rest of the pack. Derek leans closer to his wolf, so he will always scent before anything else. Peter is more likely to absently scent you, as you have seen him do on more than one occasion.”

Allison nodded, watching them. The entire time that he had been talking, Evelina had stolen his arm and was rubbing her nose across his wrist. Allison could practically hear her purring as she buried herself in his scent.

“How do you know what spot will have the most impact?”

“It depends on the person. Peter will go for the wrist, Derek will always go for your wrist unless it’s Stiles. Evie...she will always ask before she goes looking.”

“Your dad doesn’t want to tell you that he has a weakness for his neck. He likes the thrill of the threat. Don’t worry, he’s right. I will always ask where you would prefer me to scent you. Stiles likes hugs, the lingering scent on his clothes when he has to go home.”

Allison smiled and nodded.
