Kangin’s car screeched to a halt in the middle of the road. “Jeez don’t scream like that!”
Donghae poked his head from between the two seats, peering at Kangin. “What did you say????”
“I said don’t screa-”
“No before that!”
Kangin thought for a moment. “...Siwon’s married?”
“To Kibum?”
“Yes”
“Since when?!”
“Two years. I thought you’d know since you lived with him”
Donghae whipped his head to the other side to look at Yesung. They were thinking the exact same thing. But didn’t this guy brag about making out with Heechul?!
“Who gave you our tapes? The ones recorded at the treehouse” asked Yesung.
“Siwon- Oh I remember why I know that Kibum isn’t a doctor. Because he works at an NGO. The same NGO associated with the orphanage he was in”
Kangin continued driving. “Alright. How about you tell me exactly what happened at the farmhouse?”
Yesung and Donghae narrated everything from how they ran away from home to last night's catastrophic events.
“I can’t believe that one woman pulled this off”

On reaching the prison, Yesung and Donghae were asked to deposit their phones in the locker. A guard led them to the visiting room. It had several booths with perforated glass separating the visitors from inmates. It was empty. Kangin requested the guard on the other side to bring in Jiwon. Basic prison rules were inmates don’t get to choose visitors or time of visit. Jiwon was a special case since she could provide useful intel about Siwon.
The guard brought her in. She was wearing a blue uniform with her serial number stitched to the side. He uncuffed her as she sat on a stool in front of Kangin. With a slight nod Kangin gestured to the guard to leave them alone.
Jiwon yawned as she glanced around uninterested.
“Where is Siwon?”
“Will you get me outta here if I tell you?”
“No”
She pouted. “Then I don’t think I can help”
“We don’t have to do this the ugly way Jiwon,” said Kangin. “Just tell me where he is”
“Ugly as in police brutality?” Jiwon scoffed. “Try me”
“Just tell us you bitch!” Yesung slammed the glass.
“Oooh~” Jiwon raised her eyebrows. “Dying to slap me again, pretty boy?”
Donghae pulled him back.
“Why did you call us if you don’t want to say anything?” Kangin asked.
“I never called you. I called them because….” Jiwon smiled. “There’s no reason they should be mad at me. I wasn't the one who did that” She gestured at Donghae’s scarred face. “All I did was shoot the other guy when you caught me”
Donghae clenched his fists as the image of Eunhyuk coughing blood replayed in his mind.
“There’s no point in lying now. Everyone testified against you” said Kangin.
“Who? These half dead boys?” Jiwon leaned forward resting her chin on her palm. “And how was that? It was pitch dark. How do they know if it was me or not?”
“Shindong stabbed you in the foot,” said Yesung.
Jiwon slid her stool behind and raised both her feet on the platform. They didn’t have as much as a scratch.
“She is saying the truth”
“Thank you”.
Kangin turned to Yesung. “Kibum… had a wound on his foot”
“Yeaaaaas detective connect the dots now” Jiwon prompted.
“So it wasn't because of the chainsaw...”
“Chainsaw? That is Kibum’s toy! Remember all the fingers we cut? All credits to him. That was an excellent job”
“What did you two do to poor Siwon?”
Jiwon gasped. “With all due respect, my brother isn’t poor and tell me, why would Kibum harm the love of his life?”
“Y’all psychotic mfers are unpredictable”
“Rude” Jiwon crossed her arms. “Anyway, since y’all are so dumb, I’ll connect the dots for you. Siwon and Kibum tried to kill you all, not me- I mean yeah I did, but just in the end. I am not that skilled with knives you know”
“Go on. Everything you say will be used in the court against you”
Jiwon glanced at the cctv. “Don’t worry sweetie” she whispered. “Anything I say won’t stand in court because I am diagnosed with clinical depression and schizophrenia…. Or at least my therapist is skilled enough to prove I do” She winked.
“But Siwon was injured. How could he…” Donghae trailed off.
“Did you ever see his wounds with your own eyes?” Jiwon asked.
“....no”
"Confused? Have I fucked with your minds enough? Siwon says I have done it. I say he did it. So which one of us is lying?” Jiwon looked at them anticipating an answer.
“None of us. We’re both in this together. You idiots are soooo gullible. Y’all literally bought every single lie. You really think someone who is run over by fucking car can be treated at home?” She scoffed. “We could’ve kept you at the cabin and watched you bite each other’s heads off but that was too boring. We’ve done that before. We wanted to try something new. Something thrilling! It was like hide and seek but waayyyyy better!” She clapped excitedly. “It was a piece of cake for Siwon and Kibum to roam around the house in the dark”
“Why did he involve me?” Kangin asked.
“You? Oh right. So that these boys would consider you a threat and they did. Like the absolute dumb shit they are, they ran away. I guess that’s where you all were extremely unlucky. I mean think about it, what are the odds that Heechul brought you all there. It was a sign, from Almighty that what we were doing was right”
“You have no shame” Kangin spat.
“I take pride in doing God’s work,” Jiwon pointed at him. “If you cops can’t do it, my brother and I will”
“You both are going in for a long time”
“Oh is it? How will you put a dead man behind bars, detective?”
Kangin glared at her.
“Or have you forgotten that you yourself confirmed that his remains were found in his burnt apartment?”
Yesung frowned at Kangin.
“What? I told you he paid me for it”
“Even if you do confess that Siwon paid you, you don’t have any evidence. So point is, you can’t arrest him and you won’t find him. Also, I won’t stay here for long either-”
“No amount of money will get you out of here,” said Kangin.
“Correct,” Jiwon smiled wickedly. “But my depression and schizophrenia definitely will” She raised her arms victoriously. “Punishment at a mental healthcare facility after killing 15 sinners, is not a bad bargain”
“15?” Yesung narrowed his eyes.
“Yes...do you know why I specifically called for you two?” Jiwon asked delightfully. “You are the only ones who weren’t critically injured, you know. The only ones who could protect your friends, in case of…. let’s say…. a mishap?” She giggled. “Without you two, your dear friends are sooooo helpless”
“You think it's so easy to harm anyone in police custody?” asked Kangin.
Jiwon shrugged. “Just saying…. Anything can happen at a hospital”
Kangin’s mobile rang in Donghae’s pocket. “Hello?” He put it on speaker.
There’s a fire at the hospital. Those boys might be in danger. Come quick!
Yesung’s stomach dropped.
“Oh and to answer your very first question,” Jiwon chuckled. “Siwon is in a car across the street outside the prison right now. He insisted on watching you all scurry away like scared little mice... you can arrest him right away- oh no you have to save your friends. ” She laughed, throwing her head back.
“I am not letting him get away-”
“No!” Yesung cut Kangin off. “I don’t care if Siwon gets away. We are going to the hospital”
“We do as I say”
Yesung yanked Kangin’s gun from his pocket, pointing it at his forehead. “You do as I say!”
“If you ask me, they’ll be burnt to ashes before you reach so” She shrugged. “Free cremation woo-hoo!”
Yesung lunged forward violently, banging the glass between them. “Let’s go” Kangin heaved him away. Donghae stood motionless at the door.
“Donghae c'mon let’s go we don’t have time”
He didn’t move. Jiwon rested her chin on her palms smiling at him. She enjoyed how devastated Donghae looked. “Need water, pretty boy?”
Donghae slowly nodded and trudged towards the booth.
“What the fuck are you doing!” Yesung growled.
Donghae rested both hands on the platform, leaning closer. “You. Are. A fool” He stepped back smiling broadly.
“He has lost his mind,” Jiwon shook her head looking at him with pity.
“Hae-”
“I am perfectly fine!” said Donghae. “And so is everyone else, at the hospital” He spun around the chair and sat down in front of Jiwon. Yesung clasped his shoulder. “Are you serious?”
Donghae nodded. “Trust me. Everything is fine” He turned to Jiwon who’s smile had vanished. “Now let me tell you a story. The moment you shot Hyukkie, I couldn’t get it out of my head. It kept playing over and over again, killing me inside... but I also noticed something. You were holding the gun in your left hand” He glanced at her left hand. “Just like you’re holding this glass of water in your left hand. Whereas, the person who charged at me with a knife was right handed. I had an inkling that there was someone other than you.
Then in the car Kangin told us that Kibum and Siwon were married and that reminded me, last night while Hyukkie and I were in the closet, he mentioned some wedding photo that he was surprised to see and guess what? That very moment Kibum jabbed a knife at us. Now to think of it, I see why. He didn’t want Eunhyuk to remember what he saw. because if he did, and word got to Siwon that his husband made out with someone else, it would throw a wrench into their oh-so-perfect plan. That’s why he tried to stab Hyukie too. Too bad I saw it coming.
Coming back to my hunch. It was confirmed when Kangin said it is difficult for one person to have done it. Now the question was who was with you and where did he disappear. And that was answered when we got to know that Kibum’s an orphan. He lied about you threatening to harm his parents. Why? So we trust him. We should’ve gone back to the hospital to arrest him but we also needed to find Siwon. Both were necessary but we couldn’t be at two places right, so I texted Kangin’s partner from his phone to tail Kibum and not let him out of sight for even a moment. I ordered him to shoot at sight if he tried anything funny” Donghae’s demeanor exuded confidence. “Bitch if there’s anyone at the hospital who is in danger, it's Kibum”
“And the phone call?” Kangin asked.
“It’s a voice recording” Donghae showed him his phone. “Your partner thinks your weird for asking him to send such a voice note but nevermind”
“You will rot in hell,” Jiwon said through gritted teeth.
Donghae didn’t bother reacting to her comment.
The guard handcuffed and hauled her away. “You all will rot in hell! God will never forgive you! You sinful creatures! YOU….” Her voice muffled and died out as she was taken further away into a dark cell downstairs.
“That was seriously amazing!” Yesung nudged Donghae. He smiled, wiping his eyes with the back of his fingers.
“Are you crying???” Yesung asked.
“No..” Donghae sniffed. “They’re such monsters. I felt like crying when I saw all of them injured and she spoke so heartlessly about it”
Yesung hugged him. “It’s okay… some people cannot be helped”
“I think it’s finally over now,” said Kangin. “All left to do is arrest Siwon and with that we close the ten year old cold case” He sighed.
