Chapter Text
Kongpob still could not understand why Arthit giggled when he so much as hinted Type might at some point in their friendship have had a crush on him. Kongpob had once made the mistake of bringing the subject up around their combined friend group, Knott heard spewing his beer in Bright’s face. During the chaos Knott had slanted his head at Arthit in confusion and the omega waved him off with a look of indulgence.
Knott had approached the junior later in the evening to explain to him Type had not been attracted to omega males. Kong felt some reassurance but also, why wouldn’t Type want his omega.
No one was better than Arthit.
The two groups would meet from time to time after their first year but as the seniors graduated it was less frequently. Kongpob was man enough to admit he didn’t like the other man, he was aggressive and, in some cases, rude. There was no sugar coating it. The way Type was constantly too close to Arthit did not help Kongpob’s opinion of him.
On one earlier get together for example.
Type and his friends were playing a friendly round of football with the Sotus students. Kongpob and Tharn sitting off as they didn’t know how to play.
Type had complained to his boyfriend.
“How do you not know any, not one rule about the game. You’re constantly going to my games and you get me from practice.”
“Oh, I watch for an entirely different reason.” There was a slight pause. “Your legs look great in football shorts.”
Bright leads off the chorus of chuckles as Type pushed his man to sit on the bench.
As the teams were taking a rest, Kongpob was once again “Arthit watching” his senior was playing with Techno and Type. Shoving and hanging off them in different breaths, Tharn was not bothered by their actions.
Then he saw the LBC alpha brush his scent gland on Arthit’s. Type was staring directly into Kongpob’s eyes as he did so. The omega blushed at something his junior spoke to him. A cocky smirk in place, No teasing the older omega.
Didn’t have a crush on him! He was clearly challenging Kongpob’s claim and relationship with Arthit.
As soon as they were in the privacy of their own dorm, Kongpob erased all traces of the scent. Although Techno must have rubbed up against the hazer too, as there was the lingering odour of omega.
A few years later
Kongpob had gone for drinks with the hazing team as it was Tew’s birthday. Kongpob’s gift was endless drinks. He had left Tew with Oak, the alpha bemoaning the fact his hopeful mate Dae refused to give him the time of day.
Kongpob needed another drink, if he had to give romantic advice to both Em and Tew. When he got his scotch; he had turned to go back to his group but then he saw his two nongs from high school.
Pete and Tin were sitting at a secluded table in a heated conversation. As he neared the two, he discovered they were a few drinks in already.
“I don’t understand why he won’t let me…” Tin downed his scotch, Pete smiled at his alpha friend and gave him, his own drink.
“Some omegas don’t like aggressive men.” Pete began.
“No some like grouchy footballers.” Tin interjected.
“Hey!”
“Hello nongs.” Kongpob greeted them and took a seat at their table.
“Hello Kongpob what are you doing here?” Pete had always been the sweet one in this friendship group. Kongpob hadn’t been close to either boy and only interacted with them at his family’s parties. They had been close to another boy but who was it again?
“I’m good, out with friends. Is Tin in trouble?”
“Tin is causing trouble.” Pete supplied to the older boy.
“I’m doing what I was taught—manipulation and throwing money at people is how you show love.”
“Tin not all omegas are like that.”
“No some casually hunt around their desired alpha’s campus and then pretend to be completely helpless.” Was Tin’s snarky reply.
“I was there by chance!” Pete defended himself, hands waving; he almost hit Kongpob in the face.
“Sure, you were. Did you know Tharn’s mate claimed you were too innocent to join the ‘conniving rich alpha asshole association’; that and you aren’t an alpha.”
“Are there jackets?”
“Do you want jackets?”
“Yes, if this is a social club, we should have jackets.” Pete finished, Tin pulled out his phone and texted someone.
“There will be jackets.”
Both boys shook hands, Kong was so confused at what he had witnessed.
“Can someone explain what is going on?” Kongpob asked.
So, they explained how they started to court their mates. Pete in a happy relationship and Tin battling against his.
Tin leveled his eyes at Kongpob.
“How did you court Arthit?”
Kongpob blushed as he explained his own courtship, Pete had heart eyes and Tin ordered another drink.
Another drink downed.
“I’ll ask Tharn for more help.”
Tin pulled Pete from his seat and the two swayed their way out of the bar.
Kongpob looked at his watch and rushed back to his friends.
A few months later
Kongpob was searching with a nervous Tew to find Dae within the crowd. Their university had been playing football against a few others. The tournament was over but Dae had yet to return to their seats. The alphas had gone on a man hunt. Pushing and shoving passed foreign students.
“He said leave him alone; so, fuck off asshole!” A loud voice roared.
The hazers shared a look and raced towards the noise.
There was Dae along with a beta, omega and alpha in matching uniforms. The alpha was on the shorter side but his growl and death glare made him not one to be messed with. The little omega stood before Dae and when the attacker alpha moved forward; the tiny omega decked him hard in the face.
“Damn it Can!”
The fight was on.
Punches and kicks were delivered as Kongpob and Tew unsuccessfully tried to break up the fight.
“What the hell is going on!” Kongpob knew that voice.
The fight stopped.
Standing a short distance away was Type, Techno and Champ, glaring at the fighters. The leader opened his mouth.
“Shut it before I break it.” Type warned, no one spoke.
Dae broke the silence.
“I told them to leave me alone and they wouldn’t. Can told them too.” Dae went to Tew’s side.
Techno sighed and motioned for the other boys to join him. Champ and Type led the other group to security.
The LBC footballers introduced themselves as Can, Good and Ae.
Ae when had he heard that name before?
“Cantaloupe, What’s this about a fight?” Tin appeared grabbing the wrists of the omega.
“I couldn’t leave him and they were being jerks.” Can was pulling away from the rich boy. “No name calling.” Can mumbled.
Ae was now with Pete, greeting him with a peck on the lips.
Oh, this was Pete’s alpha.
“I had back up and they were asking for it. Such punchable faces.”
“You little monkey.” Techno put Can in a headlock as he ruffled the smaller boy’s hair.
The head hazer smiled as he watched the two omegas.
When the older alphas returned Good waved goodbye as did most of Kongpob’s friends.
The footballers asked if the Sotus group wanted to join them for drinks.
And so, they went to a bar and just like before Kongpob was an observer to this queer team.
Pete and Ae were feeding each other and mostly in their own world.
Techno was talking with Type as the two poured drinks and Champ was on his phone.
“Your omega?” Kongpob ventured.
“No roommate, I wanted to have him come but he had too much homework.” The alphas phone rang and he disappeared.
Techno turned to Type.
“Is that why Doc didn’t come today?”
“No, Doc goes to Champ’s boxing matches.”
“Oh why? Isn’t that too violent?”
“He’s a shy omega who gets to see a half-naked Champ kick someone else’s ass. You do the math.” He raised his eyebrow.
No nodded but still looked confused.
“Stop it Tin!”
Kongpob’s head snapped to his nong.
Can was holding his plate close to his chest. Glaring at the male who was holding a fork.
“Tin, was this the omega you were trying to court?” Kongpob asked, watching the two’s reactions. Tin flushed with pride and Can turned to hide his face.
“Yes, Can accepted my suit in front of the whole football team.”
“That’s one way to describe Can’s kiss.” Ae grumbled, Pete shushed him.
“It was the most action that field ever saw, punching and then kissing. How romantic.” Techno chimed in.
Kongpob’s eyes widened as he heard this, silently asking if this was true.
“I said something unflattering about-.”
“You acted like an ass. Act like an arrogant alpha ass get treated like one. Right Type?” Can cut in with.
“True kiddo.” Type raised his glass.
“Type what have you been teaching my junior? Please tell me you sorted this out?”
“Of course.”
Techno smiled at his friend.
“I took him for ice cream after.”
No’s head slammed onto the table.
“I deserved both of Can’s attacks. Thanks, Kongpob for the advice on what to buy.”
“Oh, the purses, no problem.”
Can squawked and rounded on Tin; a new round of bickering began.
Dinner was fun learning and catching up with everyone. It made Kongpob miss his own omega.
The alpha watched No and Can placing food on Type’s plate, whenever the alpha looked away. Pete was distracting him with different questions.
Type then left to gather more food for the table.
“Why are you feeding him?”
Techno shifted and Pete wouldn’t meet his eyes. It was Can who blurted out the answer.
“Cause he’s going into heat.”
A resounding chorus of “Can” was spread by the LBC students.
Wait… What?
“But he’s an alpha?” Kongpob was lost, wasn’t Type an alpha?
From the moment he met the other Type screamed alpha. There was no softness to him. Even the way he talked to his boyfriend was confrontational and now Kong was supposed to believe that this large ball of conflict was an omega.
But no, now that Kongpob deliberated over their past encounters not once had Type said he was an alpha, sure he looked and acted as one. Type hadn’t claimed to be one, it was a label others place upon him.
Could Type have become close friends with his Oon because the two were omegas?
“No Type’s an omega, our whole high school saw his first heat.” No supplied.
Kongpob remembered when they all described their first heats/ruts, now he knew why Type and Arthit had responded the way they did.
“OH!”
Was this why Arthit had laughed about Kongpob thinking Type had a crush on him? Arthit even teased him about it to this day.
Kongpob was parting ways when Type pulled him aside.
“Thanks for loving Arthit, he deserves it for all he put up with.” Type laughed.
“Yeah… why didn’t you say you were an omega. You were challenging me all the time and getting close with Arthit?” Kongpob blurted out.
Type paused and thought before he spoke.
“Well at first I did it because that’s how we always acted but when I found out about you. I just wanted to see your reactions. To know if you were good enough for my senior. Finally, I challenged you because it was fun.” Type stopped when he saw the look of disbelief on Kongpob’s face before he continued on.
“I had a shit first year, so yeah, challenging a posturing alpha was how I found amusement. Also, Oon got to enjoy the fruits of your jealousy. Which I know he probably enjoyed.” Type shrugged his shoulders.
Kongpob couldn’t understand how he had misinterpreted the other so wrongly, thinking from the first moment that Type was attempting to poach his omega when in fact Type was happy with his own alpha.
Kongpob was going to apologise when Type’s phone rang, the footballer left to answer it. Walking off into the night haze.
“Hey Tharn… How did your gig go?” There was no mistaking the love in the other’s voice. Yes, what a fool he had been.
Kongpob crawled into bed, embracing his sleeping omega. He inhaled Arthit’s sweet scent.
“When were you going to tell me? Type’s an omega?” Kongpob whispered into the elder’s ear.
Arthit pulled him close as he chuckled, Kongpob pouted.
