Chapter Text
A soft chuckle left your lips as you flipped through the story Nifty gave you to read. She sat next to you on the couch, bouncing in place as she waited for your response.
Nifty had previously shared that she had made stories about you and Alastor and though your husband found it weird, you were intrigued. Because of this, she gave you one of the stories she had written and planned to use you as an editor of sorts. Apparently, she wanted to make her stories more accurate, but you weren’t sure if she meant that she was going to publish it. Who would even read fanfiction about the Radio Demon anyway?
“Darling!” Your head perked up from your seat on the couch next to Nifty. The little demon’s head snapped up as well and in a flash, she was replaced by Alastor while she stood next to you on the couch. Before you could scold him for his actions, he cut you off, “Nifty, be a dear and inform the others that my wife and I shall be gone for a few days.”
You flinched as she screamed, your ears pressing on the top of your head to muffle the sound. “Is it today!?”
What? What was today? As far as you knew, there wasn’t anything special about today. If you did, you were sure that you would mark it down in your calendar. That thing was the only reason how you managed to keep track of everything over the years here in Hell.
Your husband let out a hearty laugh. “Yes, indeed! Off you go now, my dear!”
With that, Nifty sped off giggling and talking about wanting to know everything later. You didn’t know what she was talking about. Heck, you didn’t even know what your husband was talking about.
Alastor had never informed you of any anniversary coming up. If that was the case, the two of you wouldn’t have come to the hotel at all. He would’ve made sure you wore your best clothes before taking you out on the town. Was it another one of his overlord meetings? No, he seldom attended those as Alastor barely even acknowledged his title much less the responsibilities with it. Again, if that was the case, he would be less overjoyed than how he is right now. Did you seriously forget something?
Noticing your contemplating expression, Alastor grinned. He was counting on you not knowing today’s date. It has nearly been a century, but his memory was as sharp as ever. Today’s little surprise should get your memory jogging.
“Alastor, what are you up to?” You have no idea what he was doing or planning today, but you just hope you don’t come home with bloodied clothes. It gets tiring cleaning it up.
He waved his hand as he gave you a loving smile. “A surprise, my love!”
“Oh, alright.” That didn’t seem too bad. His surprises weren't all too bad if he wasn't covered in blood. “Let me just give this back to Nifty and I’ll—”
Alastor’s lips quirked up as you held up the small stack of papers in your hands. “Is that the story she was talking about?”
You nodded. “Yes, it’s quite cute, but hey!”
Your husband snatched up the papers before calling for Nifty. The little demon zoomed in and took the papers before waving goodbye and leaving again. You sighed. It seemed like he was in a hurry to show you his surprise.
Alastor dusted his hands and offered his arm out to you. Going along with your husband’s antics, you wrapped an arm around his, and with a snap of his fingers, the two of you were engulfed in darkness. It wasn’t even a moment later that it opened up again to reveal your little cabin.
Tears welled up in your arms as you took in the scenery before you. Colored leaves fell from the treetops to the ground. Instead of the cabin sitting on top of the water, it was now on a small island that was slowly accumulating the fallen leaves. A little picnic area was set up near the porch with candles surrounding the area. A soft glow emitted from the floating candles placed all over the outside. It was similar to your first date when you met Alastor.
“Do you like it, my dear?” Alastor’s head tilted to the side as he waited for your reaction. The cogs of your brain were slowly working as you started to remember what today’s date was.
“October 25, 1921,” you whispered as you walked towards the little picnic spot. Alastor followed you, his hands folded behind his back. “Our first date.”
The Radio Demon held out his hand and you took it. “I’m glad you remember now, my love.” He chuckled. “This was certainly a date I could never forget.”
Your eyes rolled at his little jab. It’s been a hundred years and time flies by especially when you’ve been in Hell for most of it. “Oh hush, I wasn’t expecting this. We’ve only celebrated our anniversary.”
“True, but it’s now been a hundred years since I took you out to my cabin.” Alastor sat you down on the checkered blanket before grabbing the basket. “Still can’t believe you willingly followed a man you met just a few weeks ago into the bayou for a picnic.”
“Well, I ended up marrying that man, so it did me some good.” You huffed, smoothing out your skirt.
“Ha!” Alastor passed you a wine glass that you gratefully took. “Good? My dear, you know I’m anything but that!”
You rolled your eyes. Of course, you knew. Alastor was a murderer and a cannibal when he was alive and he kept it a secret from you until his death. He was a manipulator and liar. A deal-maker who bargains on one’s souls purely for his own entertainment. It was a change from the Alastor you knew when you were both alive, but it was still him nonetheless.
The rest of the day was spent outside of your little cabin having lunch and recalling stories from when you were alive. Mostly good mixed with some bad, but still memories that you would never forget from when you were alive. It was lovely of Alastor to arrange a day for just the two of you. Apparently, he had more plans in mind for the next few days, but for now, it was just this picnic.
Night started nearing and the two of you were starting to clear up outside. Alastor had gone inside to put away the basket despite his ability to just poof it away. You stayed outside sitting on the grass. The candles were able to provide light to the growing darkness, but it was still dim. Among the trees and water, several glowing eyes watched you, but you knew it was just the alligators that occupied this part of Alastor’s swamp. It might be the few birds and snakes residing within this region as well, but Alastor fed the alligators around this time. They were probably waiting for him.
As if on cue, Alastor emerged from the house carrying a few slabs of meat. Humming a little tune from your time, he walked to the edge of the little island and stood next to you as the glowing eyes approached his waiting figure. Once they were close enough, your husband threw the meat into the water. You had to stand up in order to avoid getting wet as the congregation of alligators ate their meal.
“Do you remember when we first met?” Your gaze turned to Alastor who was looking at the falling leaves. “If you forgot that, darling, then I don’t know what I should do with you.”
“Don’t be an egg, Al.” You took his hand in yours, watching the leaves sink into the water. “Of course, I remember.”
The soft breeze from the fall winds. The warm light from the waning sun. The fresh smell of winter quickly approaching. Alastor bumped into you one day after going into the bayou with his mother. Ironically, his clothes were crips and clean while yours were covered in dirt. When he had accidentally knocked you over, you hit a tree and hit your head causing the leaves to come cascading down on both of you. Both of your mothers overheard the noise and has rushed over to take care of a sputtering Alastor and a bawling you.
He let out a wistful sigh as he squeezed your hand. “It’s been over a hundred years since we met and I can’t believe I fell in love with that weird girl who was always covered in dirt and leaves.”
“Hey!” Your lips jutted out into a pout as Alastor laughed and moved his hand to wrap around your waist. He pulled you flush against his side and gave you a small squeeze as a mock apology. “You know, you’re one to talk about hygiene, Mister! You eat raw meat for goodness sake!”
“I believe you mean extra rare meat, my dear!”
“No, I do not,” you deadpanned. “Al, I’ve seen you eat a literal demon whole like it was nothing.”
“That will neither be the first nor last time you witness that, my dear!” Alastor grinned. “You married me both on Earth and in Hell! You’re stuck with me for eternity, my love!”
A goofy smile etched its way onto your face at his statement. “I know, but we should head inside. I’d like to take a bath.” Alastor’s grip prevented you from moving and no amount of wiggling could get his arm off. You whined his name.
“Before you do that, doll.” The Radio Demon snapped his figures and the slowly dying candles were once again shining brightly. A familiar tune filled the air as his other arm made its way around your waist, positioning your back against his chest. “Care for a dance?”
“Always.”
