Chapter Text
Why did it always end like this with Young Justice?
Don’t get her wrong – Marinette had been stuck in many dubious places ranging from sewers to elevators and that fun time in the deepest parts of the catacombs.
In the six weeks the Miraculous Team had been visiting Young Justice though, she had been trapped in Space four times, visited what seemed to be literal hell, gone to another dimension, and even gotten stuck in her own head. Literally.
This time she didn’t have a clue where she was.
She groaned and tried to clutch at her head, cursing profusely when she noticed she had been detransformed.
She opened her eyes a crack to be met with the face of Superboy.
His brows were furrowed, and his eyes were wide and maybe a little wet, though that could have been a trick of the light.
The thing blocking her hand from reaching her head was his arm as he was leaning over her.
“This isn’t a sleeping beauty-thing, is it?” she croaked.
He leaned back on his haunches, looked up at the ceiling, rubbing his face with both hands.
He made a small hollow laugh. “Don’t worry, if I finally got to kiss you, I’d want you awake for the full experience.”
He wasn’t really laughing or giving her a cocky smirk and she got the feeling that just maybe, he had been afraid.
She took his hand and gave it a squeeze in reassurance.
She took a look around and found that they were completely alone.
The room had a distinct underground feel to it.
“I tried to smash all walls to see if we could break free, but no dice. The door is too thick for me to do anything about it. I had to stop after a while. If we’re underground, a cave-in is the last thing we need,” he told her with a heavy sigh.
“I’m sure the others are coming to get us,” she tried to placate him. “Robin probably has, like a dozen trackers on you.”
Kon snorted. He shuffled back to lean against the rough stone wall and Marinette had to prop herself up on her elbows in order to look at him.
The only sound was of their respective breathing. Kon would be able to hear considerably more though.
Like her rapid heartbeat, which could fortunately be explained away by fear.
She sighed heavily.
They only had one week left with Young Justice and she had to admit that she would miss everyone.
Especially the dolt in front of her.
He had calmed down considerably since she tricked him. Perhaps he had simply lost interest when he realised she wasn’t going to cave so easily, but she had noticed that he wasn’t flirting with anyone else either, even though some were practically throwing themselves at him.
He still looked her way though. She knew that because sometimes he caught her staring back at him too.
Maybe she was just being silly.
One week was all they had left.
With a small huff, she rolled over and got on her hands and knees.
He looked at her, head cocked in a silent question as she crawled over to him and sat herself down right in his lap.
“I’m awake now though,” she whispered, straddling his hips.
“So you are,” he breathed.
He wound his arms around her. He didn’t move to kiss her, but his eyes strayed repeatedly to her lips.
She slowly leaned towards him but when she was almost there, he stopped her with his forehead against hers.
“You sure?” he asked.
“Well, I do owe you a kiss, don’t I?”
She felt his forehead furrowing against her own. “I don’t want – not because of some stupid bet,” he huffed.
Marinette shook her head. “That’s not it. I just want you, you idio –“
…
The dam broke as Kon cut her off with his lips.
Both of their breaths hitched, not having expected the sheer impact of the release of the tension that had built between them over the course of several weeks.
Kon’s tongue hesitantly prodded against her lips, and she opened her mouth eagerly to let him in.
He made a small squeak as she bit down on it lightly and she grinned cheekily into the kiss.
He pulled her even closer, leaving an arm around her waist and letting the other hand draw circles on her back. He sighed as he felt her relaxing under his hands.
He wanted to surround her, to hold her close and cover her entirely.
He wanted to keep her warm forever.
Happy forever.
Kon distantly heard a small cough and what sounded like a mumbled “We’ll be back later.”
He was too busy to care.
Kissing Marinette was so different and so much better than he had expected.
Patience is a virtue, Ma always said.
Maybe he should listen to her some more.
