Chapter Text
Everyone starts to shout, and Klaus turns to see xeir littlest sister. Although, it's hard not to be small when compared to Allison. Only Luther seems to have that covered.
"Hey Vanya." Xey wave to Vanya, who looks a little surprised that xeir talking to her. "You wanna blow this popsicle stand and go to, like, the kitchen?"
Vanya slowly nods, and Klaus wraps xeir hand around her wrist and drags her out of the living room. Xey jump on top of the counter and take out the box.
"Klaus, what is that?" Vanya asks, looking a little wary.
"Dunno. Looked like it had cool stuff in it, though. Wanna go through it with me?" Klaus shrugs and goes crisscross applesauce.
Vanya twists her hands around themselves. "Why are you talking to me? I didn't think anyone in this family cared enough."
Klaus shrugs again. "Even though you did reveal to the world I was a drug addict, you didn't demonize me too bad? Like, you didn't make it seem like I was evil or some bullshit, or something. I dunno, it felt like you believed that I wasn't just some fuck up."
Vanya looks at her shoes, and tears fall from her eyes.
"Aww, Van. Come up, sit next to me." She does, and Klaus pulls her close. "Us fuck ups gotta stay together, right?"
"You aren't a fuck up." Vanya mutters from Klaus's side.
"Mmm, then neither are you Van."
Vanya presses herself closer to Klaus, and Klaus holds her tight. They stay like that for a few seconds, before Klaus's brain decides it's time to open the shiny box.
"Hey, you wanna see what dear ol' dad hid away?" Xe hums, and Vanya peels herself away from Klaus's side and nods. Klaus opens the box to see seven books, each with a large number on the front. "Hmm, more stalker things. Hey, there's one for you!" Klaus takes the book with the big '7' on it and hands it to xeir sister.
Vanya takes the book with shaky hands, and lays it flat in her lap. Klaus takes xeirs and puts the box to the side. Xey're idly flipping through the pages with forced detachment. Xe already knows what Reggie did to xem under the guise of training. Xey pause, though, when the pages start to talk about xeir drug abuse, and the phrase "ability to conjure spirits".
Klaus looks to Vanya, wanting to tell her what he just found, but instead sees her holding the book in a death grip.
"Vanya?" Xe asks.
"Did you know I have powers?" She whispers, hands clenching. Klaus's throat chokes up.
"No, Van. I didn't." Xey promise, putting one of xeir hands over Vanya's. "Do you want to go somewhere and talk about it?"
Klaus can feel Vanya's hands unclench. She nods. "Yeah, but after the funeral. I don't want Diego to think I'm more of a disappointment."
"Hey, no. You're not a disappointment, Van." Klaus moves xeir hand to her face. "Look at me. You had to deal with all of dad's bullshit favoritism, and none of us really helped with that. Plus, look at you! You wrote a pretty successful book, and Ben says you're pretty good in that orchestra you're in."
Vanya's eyes widen. "You went to see me?"
"Once, a while ago. I was gonna go see your more recent performance, but things came up with Rave so only Benny boy went."
"Wait, who's Rave?"
Klaus feels like xey could cry when she doesn't tell him to stop pretending about Ben.
"Ms. Ravencroft, my business partner and the most wonderful woman who isn't my sister that I know. She helped me stop, and we have a cafe together." Klaus smiles. Xey always do when given the opportunity to gush about xeir second favorite person (Ben is obviously first). "We can go there after all this shit. Talk, have some coffee, introduce you to Rave. All the good things."
Vanya looks down at her hands. "Yeah. Okay, we can go, after this." She breathes out, playing with her hands.
Klaus can hear Diego's footsteps, and quickly takes their books and hides them and the box. Diego storms into the kitchen.
"We're going to the courtyard for the funeral." He says, and storms back out. Vanya looks at Klaus with curiosity, and xey shrug and put the box in the skirt xey're wearing and walk out. Time to say goodbye to Sir Reginald Hargreeves.
