Chapter Text
It was cold on the mountain top.
Not that Tommy would know, Sam had wrapped him in as many layers as he could fit in without interfering with the wings. Sam himself was in a large, green fleece jacket that Tommy had seen for him, and Fran was wearing a ridiculous pink beanie that Tommy had seen as a joke but god damn it she looked so fucking cute in it. Sam Nook also had a beanie on, which looked ridiculously out of place with his Hawaiian shirt and jeans.
Tommy’s weight shifted from his prosthetic to his flesh foot. Today was the day they would officially begin flying tests on his wings. They had done what felt like a million tests on simply gliding, even more on simple reflex work to see if the prosthetics responded to his body correctly.
Sam smiles when the prosthetic wings shift and open with every move Tommy makes. He feels proud that he helped his son regain such an important part of himself. And he is even more proud of all the progress he has made.
Tommy expressed his thoughts to Dream, who volunteered, although sadly, to stay away from Tommy for the rest of his life. Tommy quickly refused, and explained how he simply needed to adjust to the difference and separate the actions in exile from Dream. Dream was thrilled that Tommy still wanted anything to do with him, and parted with a fist bump, as he sensed the teen wasn’t ready for hugs just yet.
Tommy had grown so much, finally learning to express his emotions in healthy ways. By talking and thinking, not screaming and violence. (Although the people who taught Tommy that that was acceptable makes Sam’s blood boil)
“Ready?” Sam asks, eyes glittering as he looks at the young avian.
“As I’ll ever be, Big Man!” Tommy cheers, giving Sam Nook a high five before going to the edge of the mountain and jumping.
Sam admits his stomach dropped when he saw Tommy jump off the edge, but it quickly turns to unbridled joy as he hears his son whoop and cheer, shooting high above the mountain tops with a mighty flap of his gold wings.
“Master Tommy seems very excited!” Nook chirps, eyes somehow twinkling as he watches the boy.
“I’m inclined to agree.” Sam smiles, watching Tommy glide below the clouds, doing spins and twists on his golden wings.

Tommy had agreed for his old house to be converted to a charging station for the bots, although mainly The Warden. There were only two prisoners in Pandora's Vault now, Nikki and Jack. Both had been in there for more than a month now for attempted murder. They had two low level cells, they could talk to each other, had a bed, desk, books, and unlimited visitors. They had access to an open courtyard 24/7, although they had to notify The Warden if they wished to go outside.
Tommy wished to never see them again, and Sam was all too eager to make that happen. During their trial, Sam used his fullest extent as Tommy’s guardian to make sure that Jack or Nikki never even THOUGHT about looking at Tommy ever again. The two would stay in prison for three months, and would be heavily monitored for years after their release. Sam wanted imprisonment to be much longer, but agreed that they had been basically brainwashed by a certain group of individuals that lived in the arctic and shall not be named under any circumstances.
“Dad? Helloooo….Nook, I think he’s dead.”
“Master Sam is simply deep in thought! We should give him some time so he may become aware of his surroundings again.” Nook chirped cheerfully, carrying a charging pod that weighed easily over a thousand pounds on one shoulder. “In the meantime, we can begin putting down the new floors.”
“That seems to be the most appropriate procedure.” The Warden rumbles, also carrying in thousands of pounds in equipment.
“Nah, he’s back!” Tommy smiles, poking Sam lightly on the cheek.
“Sorry kid, spaced out a bit.” Sam smiles, setting down the wood for the floors. “Thinking about stuff.”
“Oh, okay.” Tommy nods, plopping on the floor. “We should do the wiring first, yeah?”
“We can if that’s what you want.”
“It is what I want, innit?”
“Alright. Hand me that pack of bolts please. Can you get started on power sources?” Sam asks, smiling as a pack of nails gets tossed at him. “I said bolts.”
“I thought you said nails.”
“Why the fuck would I say nails I’m working with wires-“
-
“Time for a trip to the mainland, huh mate?”
“Well, it has been a while. Figured it might be time to…check up on some things.”
