Chapter Text
Kylo’s Pov:
I was in the depths of despair. Y/n’s condition is unchanging, and the search for the one who caused her pain is hardly moving forward. The only large breakthrough that we’ve had is that we know when they left Y/n in our quarters. I was only minutes behind them. Precious minutes I was wasting, doing what? Ordering around ships with fancy guns and people with no spines? A true waste of my time indeed.
How could I be so neglectful to forget her completely? I’m ashamed so heavily with the knowledge that I was furious with her before finding her, laying in her own blood…
If only I had put my duties aside. Who cares about a resistance ship when the safety of my wife hasn’t been confirmed?
I was laying in my bed, alone and cold. It was well past midnight, but for days I’ve slept for only minutes. Every single time I drift off I see her face. I see her dying in my arms. I see the shock and anger in Hux, who thought I was able to inflict those injuries myself.
I was barely living anymore. Going day after day just trying not to collapse on the spot. It’s been three and a half weeks since Y/n was taken home to her planet. Her mother has arranged for native plants to be sent to our ship, and construction for her anniversary gift has been arranged, but at this rate I’m unsure if she’ll ever get to see what I’ve created for her.
I was finally starting to nod off to sleep when my holopad started buzzing. I closed my eyes again and let it continue. After the noise started to increase I finally reached over and activated the device, squinting at the bright light. It was an incoming call from Hux. He had been a tremendous help during the search for the hitman, and I find myself hating him less and less as the days go by. Maybe I do finally see what friendship qualities Y/n sees in him.
I answered the call with a groan.
“What’s the matter, Hux?” My voice had more scratch in it than I was anticipating.
“We have the hitman’s DNA,” Hux’s voice was electric, excited to finally deliver good news.
Instantly, I was awake. The increasing excitement was almost too much emotion for me to handle. We’re going to catch this bastard afterall.
“Where are you?” I was clambering out of bed, rushing to dress myself.
“We’re at command, how long until you arrive?” I’m already pulling on my boots.
“Give me five minutes. Do not discuss another thing without me,” I stood from the stool, grabbed my sabre, and quickly headed towards the exit.
“Of course, Supreme Leader,” Hux then ended the call.
That was the first time he had addressed me as such. We’re far from friends, but our mutual care for Y/n has made us less than enemies.
I was running down the halls of the ship. It was the most unprofessional thing I’ve done since I claimed my title, but I couldn’t care less. The longing for my empress to come home is so overwhelming, and soon she’ll be home with me. I could not wait a single second longer than necessary.
I burst into command. Chest heaving, dressed in the same simple outfit I’ve been seen in for weeks. Around the large table was my Knights, Hux, and a few other important officials that have been aiding in the search. Everyone was either still wearing their night clothes, or in simple clothing like myself.
“How did you find the attacker?” was my first question as I took my seat at the head of the table. Hux was quick to answer.
“The rest of the blood was just run through the labs. There was so much,” Hux gave a quick cough, matched with a look of sorrow, “blood at the scene of the attack. It took a while for every drop to be tested.” My chest got a familiar pang. Y/n was so brutally injured that it took multiple weeks for all her blood to be tested?
“What’s the identity of the person who did this?” I tried remaining as calm as possible, counting to ten over and over in my mind. A trick that Y/n practiced with me for meetings with unpleasant subject matter such as these…
“He’s a stormtrooper. Numer ST-8832, he’s still on this ship, sir,” my blood was boiling. A stormtrooper was able to inflict this level of harm?! This was something that a lowly soldier got away with for weeks? I felt my hands start to shake, and I felt sick to my stomach. How could I let this happen?
All the guilt I’ve been carrying around with me multiplied tenfold. She’s the highlight of my life, and I let a fight keep me from protecting her, and she was brutally attacked by someone who I viewed as an insect. My fists were balled up so tight my knuckles were turning white.
“Capture him at once. Bring him to room 3006. I swear to god if he gets away once more all of you will pay the price dearly.” I stood abruptly, sending my chair to the floor. I stepped heavily towards the interrogation room.
I stood silently, alone in the room. I’ve seen the man who did this before. I watched him walk down the hall before I opened the quarter’s doors that day. Before I walked in on Y/n dying. I can’t believe I never even thought of him as the attacker before. I’m so angry.
Angry at myself for letting this happen to her. Angry at him for torturing my wife, my lover. Angry that it's taken weeks to find him. And to think, he’s been on this ship the whole time. Probably thought he was in the clear. I was diving deeper and deeper into my thoughts when the door opened.
Hux was walking in front, leading Vicrul and Cardo who were holding on to a writhing man. The rest of my knights follow behind them. A hatred so violent shook my entire body. The man was sobbing, which only made my anger rise. How could you perform such unspeakable acts upon someone so pure, and then cry when you’re caught?
My knights strapped the man to the chair in the center of the room, and I finally got to work on this monster.
“Why have you committed the crimes of betrayal against the empress?” Despite my red hot anger, I kept my voice calm.
“I-I have no idea what you’re talking a-about,” the man was stuttering over his words so much it was almost hard to understand his words.
In one swift movement I pulled and ignited my lightsabre. I left it to hover mere centimeters away from his neck.
“We have DNA proof that you attempted to murder my empress. Now I suggest you start talking, unless you want me to rip apart your mind.”
The man remained silent. I raised my hand and focused on reaching inside his mind. I found the memories of that night, and I made sure to share them with the minds of every person in the room.
We saw the man receive the orders to attack the empress during the attack. We watched him walk into our quarters with the other stormtroopers. My heart stopped beating when I felt his excitement to complete his job. We saw how devastated and scared Y/n was when the four of them walked in.
We watched him murder the other gaurds and turn to him. We watched the horror on my wife’s face when she realized what was coming next. We watched the struggle before he overpowered her. We watched him torture the person who means most to me. I felt so sick watching and hearing everything in such detail.
We looked through the man’s eyes at Y/n laying on the floor beneath him. Her body was broken and defeated. We heard the orders that I was coming home. We watched him give a final kick to her stomach before leaving with a laugh in his throat. We felt the joy at his job well done…
I let my control over the man’s mind go. He’s been screaming this entire time, but it went unnoticed. The faces around me were filled with disgust and sorrow. Hux was holding back actual tears, along with green faced knights. I can’t wait to ruin this bastard. Ruin him until the pain he’s inflicted on my wife has been paid over a thousand times over.
“Take this piece of filth away Hux, you may start the process however you see fit,” and with that, I left the room.
My knees were weak and my mind foggy. I’ve never felt so horrible in my entire life. Having to relive the whole event was agony.
I was on my way to Y/n’s home planet. It was time to bring my empress home.
