Chapter Text

now it was jisoo's turn to have a keyboard smash moment.

because what the fuck?

what the fuck.

for a second, this reminded jisoo of the brain freezes he got when he ate ice cream. looking at jeonghan across him, he realized that the older reminded of ice cream, actually. this train of thought had completely interrupted jisoo's flustered state, enough for jisoo to ask, "jeonghan-ssi, if you were a desert which one would you be? i think you'd be ice cream."

jeonghan chocked on his hot chocolate at the completely unrelated question.

"i- uh- what?" jeonghan was confused to say the least. jeonghan had just literally said that he would like to have their lips meet, and this was jisoo's reaction?

fine. two could play this game.

jeonghan was sure his flirting game was much better than whatever the hell jisoo was doing, he was not going to lose.

jeonghan put himself together and said, "i think i'd be ice cream too, jisoo-ssi," he smiled, "because i'm sweet and you want a taste of me."

jisoo blushed deeper than he was already, but didn't stutter when he said "i think so too," and nodded.

this dipshit had the nerve to say he agrees? what the fuck.

jeonghan decided to put a hold on the flirting for now, because he didn't seem to be getting much of a rise from jisoo. he simply focused on sipping his hot chocolate and forgetting the knee that kept brushing his own under their table.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

"do you want to come look for presents with me?" jeonghan asked as they left the cafe.

"i'm not sure what i'm more surprised by, the fact that you haven't bought christmas presents yet, and it's literally christmas, or that you're asking me, a literal stranger, who you, by the way, didn't even want to eat with, to come buy them with you."

jeonghan huffed at jisoo's answer, "i'm going to pretend i didn't hear any of that. so, you coming?"

jisoo smiled, "sure."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

"- so it's basically like secret santa, but we have to find the most useless gift, and whoever's is the worst, wins leftovers."

jeonghan had finished, and from what he had said, jisoo basically figured that jeonghan's friend group was not normal, at all. but he nodded anyways, and said, "okay, so is there anything you had in mind?"

jeonghan smiled, "yes! i was thinking of a rock."

jisoo thought for a while, "but can't that be used as a paperweight?"

jeonghan gasped, "you're right!" he latched onto jisoo's arm as they walked down the street, "you're absolutely perfect for this, you can be my evil little sidekick."

the laugh left jisoo's lips faster than he had time to process all of what had been said by jeonghan.

"sure, jeonghan-ssi, if you say so."

jeonghan's smile was worth it.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

while jeonghan and jisoo were looking for the most useless gift they could find, the sky had turned dark and was brooding with clouds.

"what about this!"

"...a twig?"

jeonghan nodded enthusiastically, "don't you think-" jeonghan stopped mid sentence when he felt something on his cheek. confused, he was about to bring up a hand to feel what felt like a raindrop on his face, but was beaten by jisoo.

jisoo had stepped closer and gently swiped his thumb across jeonghan's cheek, "it looks like it's going to rain," jisoo said while looking up at the sky, his hand still on jeonghan's cheek.

jeonghan swallowed dryly, "yeah, we should hurry."

they ended up not hurrying up, but sitting under a bus stand while they compared all the useless gifts jeonghan had picked up.

"i still think that the broken spoon handle is better," jeonghan said while clutching said spoon close to his heart.

"but the chewed gum! isn't it even better?"

jeonghan narrowed his eyes at jisoo, "that's disgusting and you know it. the present it supposed to be useless not-"

"okay, but! the gum was chewed by you, it's like a prize."

jeonghan laughed despite himself, "then you can keep it! treasure it and stare at it, okay?"

jisoo smiled at jeonghan's failed attempt to keep from laughing, "okay, jeonghan-ssi."

over their hushed voices and collection of absolutely useless (and disgusting) things, the first snow started to fall. it looked like a painting, the two huddled together despite the empty space on the bench, the soft snow fall and the colors of a sunset.

jeonghan softly gasped when he looked up from where they were arguing, and jisoo followed to look at what jeonghan was so captivated by.

"woah…" jisoo trailed off.

"it's so pretty," jeonghan said, still in awe of the white covered landscape.

jisoo nodded and said, "almost as pretty as you."

jeonghan blushed, just a little bit.

and then jeonghan reprimanded himself, because what was he, a child? no, he was yoon jeonghan, the man who had everyone on his knees with one smoldering look, he was not supposed to be flustered over a simple compliment.

and yet, jeonghan was almost as red as the sunset in front of them.

jeonghan cleared his throat, "do you wanna come with to me to the christmas party?"

jisoo turned to his side with raised eyebrows, "me?"

jeonghan rolled his eyes, "is there anyone else here?"

jisoo blushed, "n-no, but i just…are you sure? i don't know any of your friends, i don't think- i'd feel like i was intruding and i don't wanna make anyone uncom-"

jeonghan snorted, "trust me, you'll be fine. but…" he continued, "if you don't want to then it's okay," he finished with a soft smile.

jisoo thought for a while, "you're sure it would be okay?"

jeonghan smiled patiently, "i wouldn't have asked if it wasn't, jisoo-ssi."

jisoo perked up, "i'll agree on one condition."

jeonghan raised his eyebrow, "and what's that?"

"we drop the formalities."

jeonghan laughed, but said, "deal," anyways.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

while jeonghan led jisoo to the party, jisoo's gut was twisted with nerves.

he really wanted to ask jeonghan out.

but should he do it? should he do it now? or after the party? but what if jeonghan's friends don't like him? or will jeonghan even reciprocate? jisoo wasn't dumb, yes most of the signs pointed to the fact that jeonghan was at least slightly interested in him, but jisoo could be wrong. jeonghan could just be flirty, so what if things got awkward? what if jeonghan made fun of him?

"what's going on in that pretty little head of yours, jisoo?" jeonghan asked as he peered at jisoo's face while bumping his elbow.

jisoo snapped out of his trance and tried to give a reassuring smile, "just cold."

jeonghan narrowed his eyes, but nodded, "we're almost there."

jisoo went right back to overthinking. should he wait for jeonghan to ask him out? but what if jeonghan was waiting for him? all of this was still under the assumption that jeonghan was into him, which could turn out to be wrong, so what should jisoo do? what should he do?

jisoo groaned, and that made jeonghan peer once more at jisoo.

"jisoo-yah, you sure you're just cold?"

"yup," jisoo said, chuckling nervously, "the cold makes me groan."

jeonghan just hummed.

fuck.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

jeonghan and jisoo arrived at a house that looked a bit run down, but welcoming nonetheless and jeonghan held his arms in the air, spun, and said, "we're here!" with a mix of excitement and relief.

jeonghan turned back around and was about to climb up the stairs that led up to the main door, when he felt a tug on the sleeve of his sweater. turning around, jeonghan came face to face with a very nervous looking jisoo.

"yeah?" he asked jisoo.

jisoo cleared his throat, "i was uh, wondering if," he averted his eyes, "um if you'd…" he let go of jeonghan's sweater, "nevermind actually, let's go."

jeonghan gave him another one of those soft smiles, "go on, now i'm curious."

jisoo's eyes widened at jeonghan's prompting but he tried to continue, "um…wo-wouldyouliketogooutwithme?"

jeonghan blinked twice.

"i'm not sure what you said exactly, but it sounded like you asked me out and if that's what it was then yes," jeonghan grinned, "i would."

jisoo let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

jeonghan blew out a puff of air and leaned in close to jisoo, "was that what you were so nervous about?"

jisoo chocked out a laugh, jeonghan was just teasing, but jisoo couldn't help but think that yeah, he was nervous, okay? and if jeonghan was going to make fun of him-

"because i've been nervous too. i was thinking i would ask you after the party but then, i was like, what if he doesn't like my friends? but i couldn't ask you right now because you just seemed so off you know? and plus…" he continued to ramble on.

and unbeknownst to the older, jisoo found comfort in jeonghan's words.
