Day 8.
Dear Diary,
Rutile said that giving you a name can make writing feel more personal. I don’t know what to name you. I will ask the other wizards what they think.
Rutile also said I could try ending with something like, “Sincerely, Riquet”. Because it would be like sending a letter. But this isn’t a letter. It is a book. Rutile says funny things, but he knows a lot. I think I will try.

P.S. I almost wrote “sumthing”, but I remembered Mitile wrote that it should be “some” instead.
Also, Rutile said I don’t have to worry about my apples anymore.

Entry 9.
Dear Diary,
I am sorry. I missed a day. I can’t label this Day 9, so it is Entry 9. Please forgiv me. (Maybe it is spelled “forgive”, because “give” and “gave” have an “e”?)
I decided to consult the other Central wizards about a name for you.
When I showed you to Prince Arthur, he complimented my handwriting! Hehe. He said it was very secretary-like, and that made me happy. When I showed you to Oz, he said, “oh” and that was it. I think he could benefit from writing too, but he writes old letters… and Cain drew on you! It was something he said is a smile face, and I don’t think he meant any harm, but I would have prefered that he did not do such a thing at all. I will forgiv (forgive?) him though.
Why does “though” get spelled with “gh” even though it sounds like “thow”? Mitile said “gh” can make an “f” sound, but how do I know when it is “gh” and not “f”?
The Sage said I should call you a nise name. Something nise is a friend, but I already have a friend named Mitile. Mitile has written here before.
I will continu to think about a name.

Hi Riquet! I know you’ll read this later, so I thought I should greet you in writing. Prince Arthur is right though, you have really nice handwriting. It’s actually a lot better than mine was when I started writing, but I think it’s because you’re starting at an older age… I was around 4 years old when I started. Nii-sama taught me too. He’s really good at writing, isn’t he? His words look so pretty.
Also, you’re right. It is spelled “forgive” and not “forgiv”. Good job picking up on that!
prefered -> preferred
smile -> smiley (at least, I think that’s what you meant? “Smile” is a word and it could work here, but people usually call that drawing a “smiley”)
nise -> nice
continu -> continue
Usually when a word ends with an “r” like “prefer”, when you add “ed” to the end, you have double the “r”, so it would be “preferred” with two “r”s. This applies to words with an “l”, so “repel” would become “repelled”
Honestly, Riquet, I don’t know why “gh” is an “f” but only sometimes. It happens with “ph” sounding like “f” too. It’s a little hard to figure out, but… I think it’s something you just eventually learn as you read and write more. There isn’t really a specific rule for it…
It’s the same with words that end with a quiet “e”... it’s something that you kind of just pick up. I don’t really know how to explain it. I think I said before that if the word says a vowel then it probably ends with an “e”, but thinking about it more, I think it’s also if the last sound in a word is a “v” or “u” sound?
You’re learning really fast, Riquet! :) Your spelling and grammar are really good. You’re a really nice friend too.

Entry 10.
Dear Diary,
Nero gave me a book to read. He said he recomends it, and that we can read it before lunch every day. If there are words I don’t know, he said I can ask him because we will be together.
I asked Mitile and Nero to help me name you. Bradley also tried to help. But I am not any closer to thinking of a name. Maybe I can just call you Diary?
Also, I think I will start spacing out entries instead of writing every day. That way, I will have more to write about each time.

Entry 11.
Dear Diary,
A few days ago, we saw the dropsnow crystals at Brightsky Town. It was really beautiful, and I wish I could have kept two (one for Mitile and one for me). I tried, but they disapeared. It would have been nice to have them, but it’s okay because they were so pretty that I still remember. I will ask to see them next year.
While we were still there, I got a gift for Mitile and he liked it. That made me really happy. I’ve never really exchanged gifts with friends before, but I like it. I want to do it more.
