Everybody had stopped where Jude stopped- in front of the stern lady. She gave the group of fourth years a small smile. That made Jude a little less nervous.
"Hello, incoming fourth years. Here at Hogwarts, your house will be like your family. There are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. You cannot change your house. Now, when I call your name, come up and sit."
Jude had already heard this from Professor Dumbledore, but it was good to hear it again. She hoped she would get the same house as Ruth and Sylvana. Jude wouldn't want to be alone.
"Sylvana DeRosario."
Jude looked at the wide-eyed girl as she made her way up the small stairs and onto the seat. The hat was put on, and a few moments later, it yelled, "SLYTHERIN!"
The green and silver table cheered.
"Haven Eliso-Martinez." Moments passed before the hat yelled, "RAVENCLAW!"
The blue and bronze table cheered.
"Flynn Flores." He was sorted into Ravenclaw having the table cheer again.
"Zachary Gomez." Slytherin cheered once again.
"Jude Hugo." She heard a certain redhead cheer as her came was said. Walking up and sitting on the stool, the hat was placed.
"Mhmm, ambitious! Good for Slytherin- Ah, you want to be in Slytherin; To be with Sylvana. Not a very good path to head down. Very brave, yes..." The hat rambled on for god-knows-how-long until the hat said. "Very well, GRYFFINDOR!"
The red and gold table cheered as Jude descended from the stairs, looking Sylvana in the eye. Guilt, and betrayal. Jude discarded this and made her way to where Lily was sitting, and she made room for her. "Yay! We're together! I'm glad to see you again, Jude." Lily exclaimed, as she gave Jude a light hug.
"Glad to see you too, Lily!" Jude replied. She turned her attention towards the front of the room. She would say her hello's later.
Charles Morales was sorted into Slytherin, Jace Reynolds into Gryffindor, Ruth Saverin into Gryffindor (Jude would have to thank the gods later), Freeman Scott into Hufflepuff, and Elyse Young into Hufflepuff as well.
"Well, that was exciting. Welcome, incoming Americans! Enjoy Hogwarts, as well as the first years! Again, Forbidden Forest is forbidden for a reason. Dig in!" Dumbledore made his last speech of the evening as food sprouted from the table. This shocked Jude.
Jude hugged Ruth. She couldn't believe they were in the same house! This left Sylvana with a very mean look in her eyes, staring at the pair. Of course, Ruth and Jude felt terrible, but this was the way things are.
Jude and Ruth introduced themselves those in Lily's friend group. God, everyone was so attractive. And their accents... Wow. There was Quidditch star James Potter, and Sirius Black, then Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. Frank Longbottom was somewhat included, but he was a year above them. Then we had Lily Evans, Marlene McKinnon, Mary MacDonald, and Alice Fortescue. They had another friend, Dorcas Meadowes, in Hufflepuff. Nine people in a friend group was a lot, and now adding Ruth and Jude made the group even larger. No one minded though.
Sylvana looked as though she refused to make friends. Ruth and Jude didn't blame her.
As the new group talked and ate, the night grew darker, and Jude felt herself getting sore. Although she never transformed into her wolf-self by force, she felt the symptoms. It wasn't until she touched Remus Lupin that she really felt it.
They were both reaching for the napkins when their fingers accidentally grazed each other, and Jude suddenly felt very animalistic; very possessive. This never happened. Why was it happening now? She looked Remus in the eyes as she quickly took away her hand, as if it had been touched by fire. She quietly went back to her food, deciding to get the napkins later. It felt like a mutual understanding, though she couldn't place it. After all, tonight was the full Moon, maybe she was feeling... Wait a goddamn minute... Could Remus Lupin be a werewolf too? Or an animal of some sorts? She felt this would be weird to ask, so she would ask him later, in private.
Jude continued to talk to her new friends, and eat. Soon, it was 9 o'clock and the houses were set off to their common room. A prefect by the name of Lauren Misty led them to the entrance, giving them the password "Leonis".
Jude was just as amazed by the common room as she was with the Great Hall. It was warm, with tones of red everywhere. It felt so comforting to her. Lily led Jude and Ruth to their room. With six people in one room, they were given a bigger room. Jude had the bed right near the door, with Ruth across the room.
"Does anybody know where the fourth year boys' dorm is?" Jude asked out loud, getting her pajamas out. Everybody ooo'd and laughed.
"Wow, Hugo. Feeling bold, are we?" Spoke Marlene. The girls squealed at this. Jude realized what she meant, and felt her face turn hot.
"No. I have a question to ask Remus."
"Sure..." Mary elongated the E. "Boys' staircase, fourth door up."
"Thank you, Mary." Jude quickly left the room, hearing giggles as the door closed. She made it to the boys' door with no issue, knocking gently. The commotion inside seemed to stop suddenly as Jude heard heavy footsteps approaching the door. Peter had open it slightly, and Jude could see it was already messy. Boys. "Hi, Peter."
"H-Hi, Jude. Why are you here?" He questioned as he looked back at his friends.
"I need to speak with Remus if that's alright."
"You girls are all the same! So polite. Loosen up a bit, Hugo! Just got here." James yelled from inside. A thud could be heard, then grunting and harsh noises on the floor.
"Actually, some-" Jude was cut off by Remus taking over Peter's spot, leaving the room and closing the door.
"Yes?"
Remus and Jude were very close together. Why is this school so bold? She took a step back, "I have a question."
"Yes, that's why I'm here; To answer your question."
"Uh... Could we go somewhere more private?"
"Alright. Come along."
Jude followed Remus down the staircase and out the common room. "Don't be out late! Curfew is ten!" Lauren, the prefect, had yelled as they were leaving. It was only 9:15. They stopped just a little away from their common room's door, in the hallway.
"What were you going to ask?"
Jude almost crashed into Remus, not noticing his sudden stop as she was deep in thought of how to word such a question like this. If he really was a werewolf, he would have to leave soon to get "ready'.
"I really don't know how to word a question like this, and you might think I'm crazy for this, but are you a werewolf?"
Jude noticed Remus' face visually paled at the question, even in the dim lightly. She searched for his heartbeat, and heard it beating at a fast rate. There's my answer. She took a tiny step closer, and whispered, "I'm a werewolf too, don't worry. I could hear your heartbeat getting faster and the sweat coming down your forehead."
He looked at her with shock. "Dumbledore let another werewolf into Hogwarts?" He whispered back.
"Actually, I'm a witch, werewolf, and a vampire."
"What?" Remus whisper-yelled. "You're a bloody vampire? You aren't gonna kill me, are you?"
"No. I've learned to control my urges. I don't have to turn into a werewolf if I don't want to, so I've basically never done a full Moon in my life. Only my first one, when I was 10."
Remus looked Jude dead straight in the eyes, "How?"
"To be honest, I don't know. I think it has something to do with my blood."
"Oh. Uh, alright. We should head back. I need to get ready for my night..."
"I understand."
The pair began to walk back into the common room when Remus stopped the two just outside the door. "Please don't tell anyone."
"I never tell another's secret, especially as deep a secret as yours."
"Thank you, Jude."
"Anytime, Lupin."
They entered the door, and said their goodnights. Jude entered her dormitory as the clock hit 9:25. The girls stormed Jude from the beginning.
"We heard from Sirius that Remus left with you- did you snog?"
"How was the kiss?"
"What hap-"
"Shut up! We didn't do anything!" Jude pushed her way to the bed as the girls followed. "I just asked a question, alright? Also, what the fuck is snogging?"
"Making out! Kissing! Gosh, Jude. You must learn British slang." Lily responded as the girls laughed.
"We'll leave you alone now." Alice spoke, returning to her bed. The rest followed back to their beds.
"Is this what it's gonna be like every time I talk to a guy?" Jude questioned everyone.
"Yes." The girls replied in sync.
Jude sighed. She was glad for her new home; A little annoyed, but she was happy.
