Chapter Text
The party was over, anyone sober enough to get themselves home had gone, anyone too drunk to get themselves home had a cab called or a friend help take them home, no the only ones who had been left over were two drunk women. One Kaito recognized immediately as Miu from bumping into her at a few other parties Rantaro had hosted. The other one though? No clue. Maybe a friend of Miu’s? They'd stuck together for most of the night drinking which was a shame, Kaito thought she quite a looker. Long dark brown hair and deep crimson eyes, she had been icy at first but after Miu had gotten some alcohol in her the woman had been nothing but laughs and hugs. It was cute, SHE was cute. But it was time for the two to get themselves home.
"I can call another cab if you want Rantaro," Kaito offered, smirking as he heard the brunette woman start laughing over something Miu had said. Must have been the funniest goddamn thing she had ever heard before considering how much she was snorting, damn even her laugh was cute. Kaito was really starting to kick himself for not introducing himself earlier. Hopefully, she and Miu would stop for the next party Rantaro threw.
"Yeah I don't think that's gonna help," Rantaro said crossing his arms. "They don't remember where they live."
"They don't remember where they live," Kaito repeated in disbelief. "How much did they drink?"
Rantaro shrugged. "I don't know, apparently the other one brunette Maki, she's Miu's roommate, tried going shot for shot with Miu. I tried cutting her off but then that left no one to watch Miu, and well here we are."
"And you don't remember where Miu lives?"
"Afraid not, and I don't feel comfortable letting them go like this," Rantaro said with a sigh.
"Guess they'll be staying the night. If you can get Miu to the guest room I'll give her roomie my room for the night."
"You drive a hard bargain Kaito, but fine deal." They shook, Rantaro moving to the kitchen first to coax Miu upstairs before Kaito stepped in.
"Hiiiii~" Maki slurred, still a bit giggly despite Miu no longer being in the kitchen.
"Hiiiii~" Kaito repeated, doing his best to hold in a laugh that was building. "It's getting late, you want me to help you upstairs so we can get you to bed?"
"But what about the party!" Maki said, gesturing to the dead empty living room.
"The parties over, everyone went home," Kaito said with a low chuckle. Yeah, this Maki woman was absolutely trashed.
"Oh… where'd they all go?"
"Home, they went home to go to bed."
"Oooooh… so should I go home too?"
"Normally I'd say yeah, but you my friend have earned yourself a special privilege of staying in the of room Kaito Momota, Luminary of the stars!"
"Oh! Whose Kaito?"
"Me!" Kaito said pointing to himself and flashing her a grin. "I'm Kaito!"
"Ooooh, I'm Maki!"
"Nice to meet you, Maki!" Kaito said offering her a handshake, Maki on the other hand went for a hug, and for a moment Kaito allowed himself to enjoy it and the fact that this close he learned she smelt like strawberries, but quickly he placed his hands on her shoulder and pulled Maki off gently. "But ok, it's time for bed."
"Hey, Kaito where's Miu?" Maki asked tilting her head, completely ignoring Kaito's attempts to get her upstairs.
"She went to sleep," Kaito said, hearing Miu shout a couple of curses at Rantaro and praying Maki didn't hear. "It's really late."
"Oh is it? OK, then I'll go to bed too… where am I sleeping?"
"My room," Kaito said offering Maki his arm. As she stood her body wobbled a bit, and quickly Kaito moved in to support her. Wouldn't do having her injure herself.
"But then where are you gonna sleep?" Maki asked as the two began to move, Kaito moving slowly as they began ascending up the stairs.
"The couch probably," Kaito said with a shrug. "But it's fine, I can handle that for a night!"
"Well thank you for giving me your room Kaito~," Maki said, trying to give him another hug which Kaito, unfortunately, had to stop. Would have been too dangerous on the stairs.
"You can thank me when we get there Maki!"
Lucky for them both Kaito was able to get her to his room unscathed, placing Maki on the bed sitting up.
"Thaaaank you Kaito," she said, her arms open. Well, one more hug could hurt, right?
"It's no problem Maki," Kaito said with a soft smile as he hugged her. When he let her go he was ready to head downstairs, until Maki grabbed his sleeve. "Maki?"
"Where's… the bathroom?" Maki asked, her face turning a bit green. Ah, that wasn't good.
"Ah hold on it's right here," Kaito said, holding the door open as she rushed in and shutting it close. He winced as he heard her get sick, violently so. Poor thing was gonna have one hell of a hangover when she woke up.
Wanting to ensure she was OK Kaito waited on the edge of his bed, Maki finally left the bathroom with tearful eyes and puke on her shirt.
"Kaito I'm… I'm sorry I, I made a mess!" Maki said, sobbing comically loud. Kaito dared to peer into the bathroom for a moment, groaned internally, before standing up and placing his hands on Maki's shoulders. He'd have gone for a hug but uh well, now wasn't the time for that.
"Hey it's OK, I'm not mad alright?"
"You're not," Maki wept, Kaito offering her a gentle smile in turn.
"Nope, in fact, how about I lend you a shirt to sleep in, and then tomorrow I'll clean all that up ok?"
"I-I should probably help," Maki said with a sniffle, wiping her tears.
"I mean I won't stop you if you really want to, but let's worry about that tomorrow ok?" Kaito said, tugging off the shirt he was currently wearing and handing it to Maki. "Here you go, you can get changed in the bathroom. Just um, be careful."
"I will," Maki said, turning as Kaito let out a sigh. Maybe he should have grabbed something from the closet but he wasn't fully sober either. A few moments later Maki emerged from the bathroom again and Kaito gave her a nod of approval.
"You know what, you look pretty good in it," Kaito said with a wink.
"Thank you, you look pretty good without it!" Maki said, winking in turn and laughing when Kaito blushed at her blatant flirting.
"I-is that so? Well, I should probably get something else on…"
"Nooo!" Maki cried out, stumbling into Kaito's arms and clinging onto him. "You look so good without it on, stay shirtless. For me?"
"Well, who am I to disappoint a guest?" Kaito said, trying to distance himself from Maki but she was surprisingly stronger than she looked. "Uh, Maki?"
"I gotta say thank you!" Maki insisted still not letting Kaito go as she gazed into his eyes. "... you wanna…?" The cute blush, the way her eyes flashed to the bed, had they been completely sober Kaito would have said yes in a heartbeat. But they weren't, thus Kaito shook his head.
"Sorry Maki, not really feeling it. Maybe another time?"
She actually pouted at him, puffing up her cheeks for a moment before an idea seemed to hit her. "I'll do this then~" before Kaito could ask what Maki meant she leaned up to press a chaste kiss to his cheek. It was only for a moment, but Kaito felt his heart flutter. This Maki woman was gonna be the end of him he swore. "Thank you~"
"You're welcome, now I really think it's time to get to bed." While it had been fun all of this and the party prior had exhausted Kaito and he wanted nothing more than to tuck Maki in and then flop onto the couch downstairs for some much-needed z's. Unfortunately, she still refused to let him go. "Maki come on, it's bedtime."
"Only if you stay with me!" Maki said, clinging even tighter.
"All right I'll stay," Kaito said as he awkwardly got them both into bed. Definitely not easy with how MKi stuck to him like glue, but Kaito still found the entire thing cure so really who was he to complain? He'd just wait until she passed out then carefully slip out to give her some privacy.
Now that they were in bed Maki cuddled up to Kaito more properly, using his chest as a pillow and shutting her eyes and letting out a content sigh. Loosely Kaito wrapped his arms around her too, she really was just too cute. And what guy could resist a beautiful woman in his bed wearing his shirt? Slowly he felt her breathing slow, her smile peaceful and dreamlike. Kaito knew he should have left but the mix of his exhaustion, the alcohol, and the body heat Maki emitted soothed him like a lullaby. But before he fully drifted off he pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. He instantly felt guilty about it but surely she wouldn't be too mad in the morning, right? Deciding he'd just worry about that later Kaito let himself drift off to sleep, his hold still on Maki as he had a pleasant dream of them going on a more proper date.
