Chapter Text
The morning of your wedding day, you’re awoken by a knock on the door of the Madrigal's nursery. You had stayed in their spare bed in that room for the night, the family insisting that you and Bruno not see each other until it was time for the serenata.
Before you’re able to tell whoever is on the other side of the door to come in, a flurry of Madrigal women, plus Antonio, come in. Excited chatter starts up immediately as Mirabel pulls the curtains back to let in sunlight, Isabela opens the closet to grab your dress, and Luisa gently lifts you out of bed.
Dolores brings you to a chair and gets to work on your hair while Isabela and Mirabel team up on your makeup. Antonio sits on the twin bed you had slept on last night asking you all kinds of questions about you and Bruno. He told you all about Bruno’s rats, who often visit Bruno and Antonio regularly. It warmed your heart hearing Antonio talk about how much Bruno’s rats love him.
“I’m glad you and tío Bruno are getting married,” Antonio said when you were getting settled into your dress, the girls fiddling with the skirt, making small adjustments. “I know you guys are going to be together forever and ever.”
You feel tears well up in your eyes, but you hold them back not wanting to ruin Isabela and Mirabel’s handiwork.
“We will be. Forever and ever.” And with that said, a small rat comes into the room from under the door crack, squeaking at Antonio.
“Paola says it’s time!” He grins. The girls squeal, scaring the rat away. Antonio leads everybody out into the hallway and you look down at the atrium and see Bruno with the rest of the Madrigal family. He’s wearing a white Guayabera and khakis, fiddling with his hands. You don’t take your eyes off of him as you descend the stairs. The two of you were grinning at each other the whole time and you think you probably look crazy from all of the smiling you were doing, but you don’t care.
And suddenly, Felix is strumming a guitar and Bruno is singing. He sings specifically and especially to you, his voice soft and loving. You grin up at him the whole time, watching him focus on getting all the words right. You heard Pepa talk about how often he had practiced this serenata over the last week or so. Your heart was warm in your heart as Bruno slowly brought his hands forward, taking your hands in his as he continued singing.
Slowly and softly, the song ends. Bruno’s relief at getting through the whole thing without a slip up crossed his face, and you chuckle a bit.
“That was beautiful, mi amor,” You whisper. Bruno leans down, pressing a kiss to your lips.
And soon, you’re following the Madrigal family to the lawn of the casita. There’s a small crowd of people waiting for all of you. You see Julio sitting with Davíd and his family. You smile at them, earning grins from both of them.
And then you’re walking down the aisle towards the love of your life.
You focus on Bruno the whole time, barely paying attention to all of the traditions and words the priest leads you through. Your face hurts from all the smiling you’ve been doing by the time Antonio walks up with the rings.
Your vows to Bruno are similar to the ones you exchanged under the moonlight all those years ago. But there’s a certain finality, a certain wisdom, and understanding in your words now. You knew that these words will be heard by your family and your unity will be witnessed by them as well. Not just crickets, fireflies, and stars.
Bruno’s vows make you shed a few tears. Because finally, you’re going to spend the rest of your life with this man. Finally, you get to light your individual candles as Alma brings the third candle forward.
You hold the candle together with Bruno and share sweet smiles with each other. And the two of you bring your candles to the third, lighting it together. You blow out your separate candles, handing them off to Julieta and Pepa.
And finally, finally you kiss your husband. Your husband!
Your family cheers as you and Bruno walk together back to the casita. You carry your candle together up to Bruno’s room and spend a few hours together there, waiting for the reception to begin. The Madrigals, your family now, set up all of the decorations and opened the doors for anybody who wishes to come celebrate with you.
When you and Bruno come down to the atrium, there is a large crowd of people ready to celebrate your unity with Bruno. Music picks up as soon as the two of you make it to the center of the room. You dance for a while, feeling like you’re walking on air. The entire Madrigal family made sure to get a dance with you.
Camilo kept you on your toes by shapeshifting into different people all throughout your dance, the different heights and faces making you laugh the whole while. Antonio showed off his moves, making sure to show you a few so you two can dance in sync. Mirabel cried a little during your dance. She told you how happy she is that her tio has you in his life. How happy she was now that you were officially a part of the family. You cried a little too at that. You’d never admit it, but Mirabel was probably your favorite Madrigal grandkid.
Once you had gone through all of the Madrigals, including a dance with Alma that had both of you smiling and tearing up a little - you made sure to thank her for accepting you into the family, she made sure to reassure you that you are as much a part of this family as anyone else - you bumped into Julio. He offered his hand and the two of you danced for a while. You two spoke about Raul, fond smiles on your faces as you remembered your friend.
“I know he would be so happy for you,” Julio said. “He would always talk about how badly he felt that he got in the way of you and Bruno. He didn’t want you to know that, though. He knew you would have shut him down immediately. Saying it wasn’t his fault, etcetera.”
You laughed a bit at that. It was true, you would have said just that.
“You deserve every happiness, (y/n),” Julio continued. “I’m so proud of you and how far you’ve come. I’ll always be in your corner if you need me.”
You hugged Julio for a long time.
David came up to you as well and you didn’t hesitate to take his hand. He twirled you around the dance floor, making you laugh. He’s always been a good dancer, you remember at your first wedding, he was showing off to impress Daniela. It must have worked because they’re married with two kids now.
“You’ve done well, prima,” David said with a fond smile. “I’m glad that you get to be happy for the rest of your life. Bruno is good for you. He always has been.”
You never actually got to speak to David officially about you and Bruno. But you knew he always suspected something. He always was wise, even if he wasn’t much older than you.
Throughout the night, you made sure to keep an eye on Bruno, watching him to make sure he was doing okay in the crowd. He was fine for the majority of the party, only becoming a little uneasy after a few hours of your guests partying. People had been drinking, and as you and Bruno excused yourself, people gave you heartfelt – albeit drunk – well wishes.
You move in completely into Bruno’s room in the casa de Madrigal. Your belongings were either brought into the casita or sold along with the house. Now, finally, you can spend your days and nights at your husband’s side.
A few months after your wedding, you find out that you’re pregnant. For a few months, you and Bruno keep the news to yourself, not wanting to tell the whole family until you’re far along. Because of your age, you knew this was a smart decision. You took extra care of yourself, Bruno making sure to pamper you.
Once you started showing, you and Bruno decided that it was time to tell everybody. The family rejoiced at the news, the house filling up with such excitement for the new Madrigal. Antonio was excited to be a big cousin, joking about how he’s glad he won’t be the baby of the family anymore.
“You’ll always be the baby in mi corazon, Toñito,” You cooed, pinching his cheek and making him squirm from your touch.
“Tía!” He whined, trying not to smile.
The day that your baby was born, you lay in bed with Bruno, your baby boy in your arms. Raul Madrigal was a beautiful baby. He had Bruno’s eyes and curls. And he had your dear friend’s name. Bruno had been the one to suggest it.
“Raul was always a good friend to us. He was there for you when I couldn’t be. I think we should honor him in this way. What do you think?”
You teared up as you looked down at your newborn baby and you nodded, knowing that Raul was a perfect name for him and knowing that the man he is named after would have been so happy to be your child’s namesake.
The two of you spent all day with Raul, admiring this beautiful boy you brought into this world together.
“We need to introduce him to Julio as soon as we can,” Bruno suggested. You grinned, already knowing Julio would love to get to know your baby, Raul. You can already imagine the watery smile on Julio’s face.
“That’s a wonderful idea, mi amor.”
And as you watched Raul grow up, you held your husband’s hand, telling him how much you love him. Bruno would memorize your features regularly, calling you his heart, his love, his life.
And you were finally happy. You finally wore the ring Bruno put on your finger. You finally got to hold hands with him as you walked into the town square with Raul and you finally got to eat that tres leches cake Bruno promised for your birthday every year.
You finally get to spend forever with the love of your life.
