Chapter Text
"I just don't want Huey messing it up when we get there," Louis complained. "Just doing it myself took hours."
"You look great, Lou," Chloe replied. "And if Huey doesn't think so... Well, it's not his day, is it?"
Louis chuckled until he saw a familiar sight. "Pull over."
Chloe shrugged and complied. When the car stopped, Louis got out and went through the cemetery gates, up to a rather large tombstone surrounded by flowers, cards, and other memorabilia.
He knelt down at the base and cleared his throat. "H-Hey, Uncle Scrooge.
"Sorry it's been so long, I've just been so busy with everything. Dewey and Huey would be here too, but Dewey's been busy with adventuring, and Huey's been running your company, so... yeah. Better late than never, I guess.
"I... I know we didn't get along in our last few days together, but I really did learn a lot from you. Money isn't everything, I get that now.
"So... there’s a lot I want to say, but I'm actually kinda running late to something really important, so I gotta get going. I, uh, don't have anything to give you, so... I'll see you around."
Louis stood up and walked back to the car, where Chloe stood waiting for him.
"Ready to go?" she asked.
"Yeah," he replied, nodding.
"Good because we're already late as it is. Huey put a lot of effort into this, and I don't want him going off in front of Louise," she told him.
Louis laughed and shook his head as he joined Chloe in the car. "She's just lucky she hasn't seen him do it already."
"Why do you think I only ask you or Della to babysit?" Chloe joked.
"Because Dewey can't be trusted with nice things," Louis answered, making Chloe laugh.
"That too," Chloe replied. "Speaking of which, has he given Gos that gift yet?"
"Believe it or not, yeah. He spent like a year saying he was gonna do it before he actually did," Louis answered. "And now that he has, he's bragging that he was so smooth about it. He really wasn't."
"Those two or more will they won't they than Huey and Violet," Chloe said.
"At least they're not on again off again like Sam and I used to be," Louis pointed out. "Took us not one, not two, but three breakups to finally do this."
"At least you two didn’t cheat on each other," Chloe answered, just as they pulled up to their destination. There were flowers set up along the walls, streamers around the tables, and a long, silk walkway.
Immediately, Huey rushed up to them. "Where have you been?! Do you have any idea how close we're cutting this?!"
"Relax, Hue, we have plenty of time to spare," Chloe told him. "I gotta go get changed, I'll see you when it's time."
As Chloe walked away, Huey grabbed Louis by the shoulders and lightly shook him. "We gotta get you ready! Sam's been waiting for an hour now!"
"Chill, Sam's not the kind of girl to obsess over a thing like this," Louis replied.
"No, but I am!" Huey retorted.
"You're the type of girl to get obsessed over a thing like this?" Louis teased with a smirk.
"Shut up, and go get ready!" Huey shouted.
Louis simply shook his head and went to the back of the building. On the way to his dressing room, he ran into Jason.
Shaking his hand, Jason lit up. "Gold! Glad you could make it to this thing that we put a lot of effort into planning for you."
Louis rolled his eyes. "I'm not that late. Speaking of which, I'm just gonna go get my suit on, and we're gonna get started."
Jason nodded before he pulled Louis in close. “You remember that deal we made about this whole thing, right?”
“Yeah, yeah, I know,” Louis replied, rolling his eyes. “Break Sam’s heart, and you’ll kick my ass, blah, blah, blah.”
“You know I’m not kidding,” Jason said. “Now go get ready, I’ll tell everyone else you’re here.”
Louis nodded and walked off to his dressing room. He out on the suit he’d picked out a few weeks before, admiring his looks in the mirror until someone cleared their throat.
"Looking good," Della spoke up, catching his attention.
Louis looked toward his mother, who was leaning against the door frame. "Thanks. Spent a lot of time picking this out."
Della didn't say anything, just rose an eyebrow.
"Okay, Chloe spent a lot of time picking this out," Louis clarified. "Everyone out there ready?"
Della nodded. "Ready and waiting. Wow, just look at you. It feels like only yesterday I’d just come back from the moon."
Louis tiled his head bashfully. "What can I say. Time flies when you’re having fun.”
"It feels like I hardly even know you, and you're already making such a huge step in your life. Come here," Della beckoned.
"Alright, but we gotta make it quick. No one wants to see Huey go off like he's inevitably gonna do when it's his turn to do this," Louis conceded as Della approached him and hugged him. He slowly returned the hug and waited for Della to let go. He was patient as Della held onto him. He didn't speak up as she embraced him.
It went on for a bit too long.
"O-Okay, mom, we kinda gotta get moving here before Goldie starts draining the buffet," he told her.
"Just a little longer," she pleaded.
Louis gently pushed on Della and to get her to let go. "R-Really, we're on a bit of a time crunch."
Della sighed as she gave one last squeeze before letting go.
After she left the room, Louis took a deep breath and made his way out. With a thousand eyes watching him, he made his way up the silk path and looked back.
There, Dewey and Webby were the first to link arms and walk up to the stand as the music began.
"Isn't that just a longer version of the dress she wore to that dance when we were ten?" Louis asked Dewey as the music kept playing.
Dewey nodded. "And she still looks amazing in it."
Huey and Violet were next to walk up the path, each in their own respective outfits, followed by Jason and May. As Jason stood by Louis's side, the two shared a fist bump.
"Wait, weren't you gonna walk up the aisle with Sam since you're the only blood relative?" Huey asked Jason.
Jason shook his head. "She insisted on doing it herself.”
June finally came aisle, enthusiastically tossing rose petals behind her as she walked.
Louis took a deep breath and steeled himself for what he was about to see. At the other end of the aisle stood Sam, wearing a short, white dress, a veil covering her eyes, and a bouquet of roses in her hands. Louis felt his heart starting to fight its way out of his chest as she walked up the aisle, a large smile on her face. When she finally got up to the alter, they faced each other.
"You look beautiful," Louis whispered as he removed the veil from over her head.
"You look amazing too," she agreed with a light chuckle.
With that, the two turned to the alter, where the preacher cleared his throat. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the binding of Louis Gold and Samantha Biers. From this day forward, both shall be united as one. However, marriage is not something to be taken lightly, so if any one of you objects to the binding of these two, speak now or forever hold your piece."
When no one said anything, the preacher continued. "In that case, the rings."
Louis looked back at Jason, who handed him the gold ring Della had given him five years ago. He turned back to Sam, who held her own ring.
"Samantha, please repeat after me as you place your ring on Louis's finger. I take thee, Louis."
"I take thee, Louis," Sam repeated as she took Louis right hand in her own.
"As my lawfully wedded husband."
"As my lawfully wedded husband," she continued, sliding the ring down Louis's finger.
"In sickness and in health, till death do us part."
"In sickness and in health, till death do us part," she finished with a big smile as she looked into Louis's eyes.
"Now Louis, repeat after me as you place your ring onto Samantha's finger. I take thee, Samantha."
Louis held Sam's hand. "I take thee, Samantha."
"As my lawfully wedded wife."
Louis began to slide the ring down Sam's finger. "As my lawfully wedded wife."
"In sickness and in health, till death do us part."
Louis looked up Sam's face. She was still smiling, everything about her giving off the brightest light he'd ever seen. "In sickness and in health, till death do us part."
"Then, by the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride."
Louis leaned forward as he held Sam's cheeks in his hands. Tilting his head to the side, the two connected beaks, earning a round of applause from the crowd.
And just like that, the McDuck family gained two new official members. Jason Riggs and Samantha Biers, now Samantha Duck. And although no one saw him, Scrooge McDuck himself shed a tear as he watched as his youngest nephew held his wife as the two prepared to start the rest of their lives together.
