Chapter Text
Sleep is usually comforting.
Rest is probably one of the things that everyone craves especially after a tiring day, and yet she found herself wishing to be standing. The pain in her body was stopping her from doing so however, as well as the fact that her eyelids were struggling to open.
She couldn’t hear much except the soft beeping of a machine. ‘Ugh… come… on..’ The girl felt like everything weighted like a boulder. As she struggled to do anything besides breathing, she could hear something: a noise… a cough? It was not too far from her and she instantly realized that it was an actual coughing noise.
‘Mio…?’ Hearing that noise made her think of one person in particular and her worry increased. Using all of her might and strength, she managed to flutter her eyes and they slowly opened. The first thing that filled her vision was a soft white light. Her mouth felt incredibly dry and her head hurt, but it wasn’t important now as her focus was on the wolf girl.
“Mio…” She called out, her head turning to the side.
The coughing had stopped as it was replaced by a soft gasp. “Fubuki!” The singer exclaimed as she immediately reached for Fubuki’s hand, grasping it gently in her own. “A-are you ok..?” That was the first thing that Fubuki asked, seeing that Mio’s face was decorated in warm tears.
“Y-you dumbass! H-h-how could you say that??” Mio whimpered and Fubuki felt upset over seeing the girl cry over her.
“Why are you crying..?”
“Y-You got hit by that motorcycle… you almost- you almost-!” the memories came falling down in the fox girl’s brain: the rain, Mio running off, the bike, pushing Mio out of the way… and then darkness. “You are safe…!” Fubuki softly said, smiling gently at the realization that she had avoided Mio getting injured or worse. However, even if she was smiling at that fact, Mio could only hold her arm tightly as she let out a couple of more sobs.
“W-why would you risk your life for mine?” The wolf girl muttered.
Fubuki thought of the answer and it didn’t take long for her to come up with a reply. “I promised… didn’t I? That I would help you with the EP…” The girl muttered and Mio found herself staring at Fubuki with a shocked expression. She didn’t know if it was the happiness of seeing Fubuki still alive or the way the fox girl’s smile was making her feel at ease, but Mio couldn’t help and smile through the tears.
Seeing Mio’s mood slightly lifted up made Fubuki feel better as her chest felt incredibly warmth. “Wait, I have to call the doctor!” with a rather rapid motion, the singer brushed away the tears from her face and exited the room. In the moment that she was left alone, Fubuki thought of the consequences of her actions: she had risked her life for Mio and even if she was now in an hospital bed, she would probably do it all over again if it meant saving the wolf girl. She loved her after all-
The thought was now clearer than ever and it made Fubuki wonder if the accident had caused her to finally be truthful with herself.
Mio still had Hananaki, but she loved her.
Soon, a medic escorted by Mio entered the room and began to assess the injuries that Fubuki had sustained: a broken leg, bruised ribs and a head trauma. All in all, Fubuki was perfectly fine and wouldn’t have to worry about permanent damages to her body, which reassured both girls. When the medic left the room, Fubuki let out a sigh of relief as she now felt more awake than before.
The wolf girl sat next to her in a chair, simply holding her hand as if to ground herself that yes, Fubuki was still there and well.
“I really thought you had died…” Mio spoke, breaking the silence in the room. “I am sorry, but I couldn’t let you get hurt…” Fubuki explained. There was a lot that the wolf girl wanted to say: she wanted to scold and reprimand the fox girl for her actions, but she didn’t have any more energies to even do that. Fubuki thumb ran across Mio’s hand to give her a gentle caress; the singer felt her face heat up at the gesture and Fubuki could only chuckle at the reaction.
“Mio?”
“Mh?”
“I’m sorry about not telling you about the fact I knew about your past…” Mio blinked in surprise, not expecting that sentence to escape the lips of the injured girl.
“W-wha… why are you apologizing? I should apologize for running off a-and-“
“No, you were scared for obvious reasons. It was selfish of me to expect that you’d be fine after a couple of ‘deep’ sentences.” Fubuki admitted, looking apologetic about the way she had acted. “I didn’t want to see you blame yourself over something you had no control over… and if you try and say that you were the cause of this-“ Fubuki pointed at her injured body “-I will actually yell at you.”
Mio had never expected that Fubuki would ever speak in such a manner: so serious and almost angry, like a parental figure worried over their kid’s well-being. The words that Fubuki spoke caused the wolf girl to hold a small smile, looking at their hands held together.
“I guess you aren’t like her after all…” The comment that escaped her lips was somewhat unexpected by the fox girl.
There was something in the way Mio smiled, even through all that she had been through, that caused Fubuki to casually tug at the hand that she was holding onto. Mio blinked, standing up as she thought that maybe the fox girl needed help with something. “What’s wrong? You want me to get you some water or…?” She expected the tug to be over, but soon she found her face hovering above Fubuki’s and her face tinted red. “Fubuki?” The fox girl stared deep into her amber eyes, feeling a grin appearing on her face.
In a moment driven purely by instincts, her head barely tilted upward as their lips gently grazed against one another.
The gasp that escaped Mio’s mouth was captured by her own lips as they clenched shut at the unexpected motion, still stuck above Fubuki. Her face was completely flushed and, at first, she thought that this wasn’t possible: maybe she had actually been struck by the motorcycle and this whole moment was just a figment of her dying mind. But it wasn’t, she was really there and Fubuki was really kissing her. With the kiss, it was as a weight was lifted off Mio’s chest and soon she found herself pressing further into the fox girl’s mouth.
The fear that had always been in her heart after the accident and that guilt that had been tormenting her was forgotten in the background as the two gently kissed.
It took them a solid minute to separate and when they did their looks were a mixture of shyness, awkwardness and tenderness. Fubuki chuckled at the reaction from the singer, planting another kiss on the side of her lips.
“W-why did you…” Mio tried to ask, still confused about what had just happened. The fox girl blinked before grinning at her.
“Because I love you… I guess I have liked you for a long while.” The confession left Mio with her mouth agape and she couldn’t even think of anything to say to that: instead, her emotions spoke for her as another set of tears started falling from her eyes. “I… f-fuck, I love you too…” The admission from the wolf girl made Fubuki incredibly flustered, but the happiness on her face was genuine.
And then, to interrupt the rather sweet moment, Mio gasped in shock. She stood away from Fubuki as she felt her lungs suddenly more empty. Her breathing was now clearer and, with a final couple of coughs, a couple of flowers left her lungs. “Mio!” Fubuki stared at the scene in shock, trying to get up to help Mio but failing as the pain in her head made her fall back down.
“F-Fubuki… I feel fine!” They looked at one another and Fubuki was somewhat confused as to what Mio was saying.
“My Hananaki...!”
Eyes widened and smiles adorned their faces as the last petal fell to the floor, showing off its beauty.

Two girls sat in a little coffee shop as they drank their bubble teas. They chatted about nothing in particular as they waited patiently for another couple to arrive.
“Do you think they’ll like it?”
“Of course they will, Mio! You worked so hard for this and trust me: I know perfection when I see it, I mean… I look at you every day-“ The corny phrase was met with a rather embarrassed expression on the wolf girl’s face as she simply decided to drink her bubble tea to hide her shyness.
“You are lucky that you are cute, Fubuki.” A loud laugh escaped the fox girl and, before she could say anything else to tease her girlfriend more, the voices of two girls caught their attention “Yo dayo!” Ayame’s voice resonated through the air as she appeared in front of them, followed close behind by Subaru. “Hey, how are you guys?” She asked and soon all of them were seated at the same table.
“How’s your leg Fubuki?” Subaru asked and the fox girl simply stood up and moved her leg in various positions. "Perfectly fine! The house arrest I was in did a really good job at fixing me up,” everyone chuckled at the sentence as Fubuki sat back down.
“So, what is the big news that you guys wanted to tell us?”
Mio and Fubuki glanced at one another: Mio’s face held some nervousness while Fubuki was far more excited. The wolf girl didn’t say anything as she simply reached into her bag, the clinking of the two keychains resounding as she opened the bag and got out a square-shaped object. “Here.” She mumbled as she handed what seemed to be a CD over to the two girls. The cover was decorated in various colorful flowers as two hands held eachother in the front.
Subaru grabbed it and turned it around and, at the same time, both her and Ayame squealed excitedly. “Oh my god… you guys finished it!” The Oni stated and both Fubuki and Mio nodded, smiles on their lips. “Wow, when is it gonna come out?? I need to buy this as soon as it does!!” At Ayame’s excitement, Mio laughed a little.
“Well… for now Cover is busy with production but by the release will be announced at the end of this month!”
“I’m so happy for you two.” Subaru smiled at them and in particular at Mio.
Soon, Subaru and Ayame started discussing between themselves about how cool the EP cover was while the couple sitting in front of them looked at one another. While Fubuki was still in the hospital, Fubuki had expressed her desire to continue working on the final song and so, by the time she was out of the hospital, the final song was completed.
Tears were shed, hugs were given and things got better. Mio had slowly gotten over her survivor’s guilt thanks to the help of all the people around her and Fubuki had never been more proud of her. Her Hananaki had gone as well, much to the surprise of the medics who believed that something of a miracle had happened.
Mio had told them that Fubuki was her miracle.
“Fubuki?”
“Yeah?”
“I want to start a new album with you.” Fubuki’s eyes widened for a moment. “I didn’t expect this, but I guess the work is never done with you huh?” The fox girl teased and Mio giggled.
“As if you hate it.”
“You are right, I love it.” A kiss was shared between them, unnoticed by their friends as they kept talking. “I can’t wait to start as well.” The couple smiled at eachother at the prospect of a new project and of a new life together, ready for everything that life had to offer them.
