Chapter Text
The rest of the talk is filled with similar questions that simultaneously confuse Sasuke and make him feel a weird sense of relief.
They look as if they’re physically holding himself back about asking about his brother and it would be funny if it were anything else.
“You can ask.” He says.
“About…?” Aizawa looks like he knows exactly what Sasuke is talking about but wants confirmation anyway.
“My brother.”
They don’t ask him any inane questions like “are you sure?”, which is nice. Sasuke’s not entirely sure if he actually is sure, though.
“What was his name?” Yamada is watching him carefully.
“Itachi. He was 6 years older than me.”
“You said he was ill?” Sasuke doesn’t quite remember his answers to the police questioning two months ago, but Aizawa clearly does.
Sasuke inhales carefully and nods. “He– I don’t know what it was because he died before I could…” Sasuke stops when he can’t find it in himself to explain how stupid the circumstances leading up to Itachi’s death were. “He left for a while. After… he was ordered to kill my entire family barring me.”
Aizawa was expecting a few things from Sasuke talking about his brother. This was absolutely not one of them. He has to stop his jaw from dropping outright as Sasuke explains his brother’s military ordered genocide .
What the fuck.
“And I– I mean I don’t understand why he saw that as the only option.” Sasuke says quickly. “He was probably stronger than Danzou before he–”
Sasuke blinks several times and his mouth shuts with an audible click. Aizawa is at a loss for words.
“You don’t have to continue.” Yamada says, somehow sounding calm and like he isn’t exceptionally upset at the news being shared.
But no, Aizawa gets the feeling that there aren’t a lot of people Sasuke’s told this. He needs to talk about it eventually.
“How old were you?” Aizawa prompts, because it can’t have been that old since Sasuke’s hardly an adult himself.
“7, but Itachi couldn’t put it off for much longer. I know he tried to find other solutions but with Shisui’s death he couldn’t….”
Aizawa closes his eyes and counts back from 10. Sasuke was 7 so Itachi was 13. He doesn’t know if he even wants to know how many people were in his family because he knows he won’t like the answer.
Sasuke is eerily quiet now and Aizawa has to snap himself out of the weird daze he’s found himself in because he knows he’ll need to be there to help ground Sasuke.
“Sasuke?” Yamada asks softly.
No response, which is not a good sign.
Aizawa gets off of his spot next to Sasuke to get a good look at his eye, the lone visible one.
It’s blown wide and his pupils are slightly dilated.
An awful, choked wheeze tears through Sasuke’s throat and his hands come up to scratch at his neck.
“Your name is Uchiha Sasuke, you–”
Sasuke cuts him off by letting out a keening sound. “I don’t want to die, Itachi please–”
Aizawa resolutely ignores the rest of Sasuke’s muttering and continues speaking calmly but firmly.
“Your name is Uchiha Sasuke. It’s August 26th, 2XXX.You are with Yamada Hizashi and Aizawa Shouta in the dormitories. It’s just the three of us in this room,”
Cut. I don’t want him revealing this here, he needs to have more trust in them before he talks about it openly. Plus, it’s a bit too out of character for him and I want him to mention it passively a few times before he actually tells them the full story. The conversation before was already very emotionally charged and I don't think we need this on top of that.
