Chapter Text

"I think I need a moment to sort out what just happened." Frisk proclaims, sitting down to gather his thoughts. "Okay, so...I fell down a deep hole that I could never have survived from, found a talking flower, have seen my own freaking SOUL, got attacked by said talking flower and rescued by a goat lady throwing fire balls." He lists of, his eyes widening at every thing he lists of.

"I think that's the gist of it."

"Well, at least now we know that I really did die and all this isn't even real. No wonder I'm seeing angels" he laughts bitterly

Chara tilts her head in confusion. Opening her mouth to ask what he means by that, she quickly shuts it as she understood the implications of what he just said and blushes slightly.

"I real am dead, aren't I? I'm finally free of that monster." Frisk could see Chara flinches slightly at the word 'monster', but doesn't really give it much thought.

Now that Chara got her bearings again she begins to think about the situation. "It doesn't really make sense for you to be dead, otherwise I don't think I could actually think about the concept of you being dead since my thought process wouldn't happen since I would be but a fabric of your imagination, just like people in dreams don't actually have thoughts, but rather they are just shell, puppets to the one dreaming. Does that make sense?" She asks, coming to a stop after pacing around and lookinging at Frisk expectedly.

"Er--" Was the only thing Frisk could think of in that moment, still trying to process what his companion just theorized. "I think so?" He definetly knew that he could never come up with whatever she just said, so there must be some thruth to what she said. "By the way, why did they both ignore you?" Frisk asks, not liking the implications of everything being real, quickly trying to change the subject.

"Well, maybe they just didn't see me in the lighting?"

"Probably not, the whole room was lit up by my SOUL" he pauses. "But now that I think about it, I can't remember you casting a shadow?" The last bit was more of a question than a statement.

"That is very improbable, but if light passes through me than I suppose it makes sense that they can't see me. But then again, how can it be that you are able to see me?"

Frisk had to think about it, but then he had an idea. He stands up and reaches out to Chara, trying to test his hypothesis. When Chara notices his attempt, she flinches away.

"What. Are you doing?!" She hisses through clenched teeth. "Never heard of boundaries or what?!"

Of course he hadn't heared of boundaries, Chara thinks to herself. He is human after all. That thought doesn't really make sense, was there something else besides humans? Well, there was that jerk of a talking flower and that goat lady, those were clearly monsters, not humans. Wait, monsters? Was that what they are?
Somehow, the thought of entering a world full of monsters didn't provoke the fear it should have in her, but rather deep comfort. She thought of Toriel, how motherly she seemed. How nice it would be to be in her arms, knitting with her for da-

"I-I'm sorry, I just tried to prove a-an idea I h-had, I should have asked!" Chara gets cut out of her thoughts by Frisk, who has fallen to the floor, panicking. Frisk somehow appears a lot smaller all of a sudden. "I'm really sorry..."

"It's okay, as long as you don't try something so stupid ever again." She sighs "You don't have to be a huge crybaby about it." She internally facepalms. That did not help him. While she might not trust him, he might be able to help her find out what's going on.

After a minute of gathering himself he slowly get's back to his feet. He gives her an embaressed smile, frowing a bit "Sorry, I might have overreacted a bit."

"Don't worry about it."

"Hey, I think Toriel is waiting, right? We shouldn't take so long"

It was obvious that he wanted to change the subject quickly, but he's probably right. Toriel is waiting for them. "Yeah, let's go"

Walking through the purple gate Toriel has entered earlier they arrive in a purple room. A soft, hopeful tune fills the air, easing that slight frown on his face. The room is large, lilac bricks covering the wall, pillars towering above the two of them. At the far end of the room there are two sets of stairs, leading up to yet another door. Inbetween the stairs however, brown autumn leaves adorn the ground, a bright, beautiful star hovering just over them. At the top of the stairs, Toriel is waiting patiently. Her smile lighting up as soon as she lays eyes upon Frisk.

"My Child, is everthing okay? You took quite a while acquainting yourself with the prior room." She furrows her brows

"I'm alright, Miss Toriel."

"Very well then, talking about acquainting yourself, in the next room there will be a puzzle. I will help you get accustomed to the sight of them." With that she hurries on to the next room.

Staring at the star she decides to voice her thoughts. "You should touch it."

"What? The star?" she nods. "It could be dangerous. I don't know if that is such a good idea, Chara."

That last sentence resonated with her for some reason, but she pushes that thought away. "Understandable, this star feels unbelievably powerful." After thinking about what that feeling is she continues. "Like it fills you with confidence that you will be able to do anything you set out to do."

"I think I'm starting to feel what you mean." He starts walking towards it, still studying the massive room. When he carefully reaches out towards the star, she can see his entire body slump in relaxation.

"The shadows of the ruins looms above you, filling you with Determination."

Frisk whips his head to Chara, raising an eyebrow. "What was that about?"

"I don't know, I thought it might be fitting." She smiles.

Opening his mouth to retort, he quickly shuts it when noticing Chara's stare. Chara's eyes with wide eyes at what popped up behind Frisk. Seeing her widdend eyes, he turns back to the star, and gasps.

Thanks for reading!

Notes:

Howdy!
Thanks for reading my first ever chapter!
I originally wanted to make Frisk and Chara Nonbinary but I am not yet skilled enough to translate it into a good formate. Half the time you didn't even know who is speaking since "they/them" pronouns are harder to differentiate then "He/She".
Anyhow, I would love to know what you guys think of my this chapter and my writing!
See you guys soon!
