Chapter Text
Korone tapped her finger’s impatiently against the counter as she watched the clock. So far the time hadn’t moved far at all since she had last received a message.
“Come on… You can’t just leave it on that...”
“Leave it on what, Korone?”
The dog yelped and jolted up, glancing around until her eyes focused on the wolf tilting her head at her.
“O-oh, Mio! I’m j-just waiting on someone...”
“Someone, huh…?” She chuckled and shook her head. “I know that feeling.”
“Subaru?”
“Who else?”
“Fubuki.”
“Fair.”
“You’re a very friendly person, Mio!”
“Yeah, yeah,” she smiled at the dog. “Well, at least I have you to thank for introducing me to Subaru.”
“Wait, when’d I introduce you to Subaru?”
“When you chased after Okayu, remember? She was the employee who picked up your shift.”
“Ohhhh, right.”
“How’d you forget?”
“She has like twelve jobs! You can’t blame me!”
“She has two, one wasn't giving her any hours, she just recently quit one, and you’re exaggerating.”
“She had three at one point. That’s terrifying. She’s terrifying.”
“She’s not bad!” Mio chuckled. “She’s energetic. Okayu’s laziness is just rubbing off on you.”
“Okayu isn’t...”
“She isn’t…?”
“...Okay, she is, but it isn’t rubbing off on me! You can’t deny that Subaru’s insane.”
“She may be a bit… much at times, but she’s not insane.” The wolf shook her head. “She’s just got a lot on her plate. That’s why I’m helping her out now.”
“You’re just a good person, Mio.”
“I try.” Mio hummed and leaned against the counter. “How’s Okayu doing anyway?”
“That’s… what I’ve been waiting on...” The dog whimpered. “She went to the doctor earlier this morning and is now just on her way...”
“I assume she’s waiting to tell you anything until she gets here?”
“Mhm...”
“That’s Okayu...” She sighed. “Well, I’m sure if it was bad news, you’d have a feeling by now. Your intuition is extremely good, after all!”
“I suppose...” Korone sighed. “But still… I wish she would just tell me instead of playing around...”
“Where’s the fun in that, Korosan~?”
Immediately, the dog perked up and looked over to see the cat standing in the doorway, smirking.
“Okayu!”
“Ko-ro-san!”
“How is it?!” Korone whimpered. “You need to tell me!”
“Geeze, you remind me of someone~” Okayu chuckled but walked over, tail swaying. “They said my lungs were recovering just fine. They should be back to their normal strength in no time~”
“Oh thank goodness...”
“Until then, no major sporting events for me.”
“You wouldn’t even go to a minor sporting event!”
“That’s not true! I’d go if you invited me.”
“Alright you two, settle down,” Mio chuckled. “This is cute and all but there’s no need to get worked up, right?”
“I’m not getting worked up!” Korone huffed back and shook her head. “Okayu’s just being a meanie...”
“I’m just telling you what the doctor said, like you asked! I could not?”
“No!”
Mio shook her head and picked up her pastry before heading to the door.
“You two… I swear… Sometimes you work so well together… other times...”
The cat and dog grinned at one another once the door closed.
“I thought she’d never leave.”
“Okayu!”
“What~?”
Korone laughed before shaking her head. Bringing Okayu closer, she kissed her.
“You’re the worst sometimes.”
“Love you too, Korosan~”
