Chapter Text
“Alright, Granger?” said Draco, coming in his girlfriend’s flat.
“Hey, babe” Hermione answered, frowning “I thought we were past the surnames treatment. Come here, I’ve missed you” she patted the vacant spot next to her on the couch and he went to her.
“You know, I heard the weirdest thing today” the blond said looking to the telly and holding her while she rested on his chest.
“Hmm?” she asked, still watching tv.
“I was having lunch with Potter and the guys from the Auror dep. You know who ran into us? Weasley” she stopped watching tv and started looking to him, feeling anxious “we had a decent lunch, considering my history with him. I thought to myself: that’s bloody brilliant. Hermione will be the happiest when she finds out we’re getting along. It’s only been what, a month, since she agreed to be my girlfriend? And it’s all so much better than we thought, already.”
“This is great, Draco. I’m glad” she said, kissing his cheek.
“It is, innit? Anyway, I think Weasley drank more than he should and, apparently, he told me and all the guys in the table that you two were together just two month ago. Of course, I laughed. He was probably wasted, right? So I said that it was impossible, because my girlfriend had told me she only dated him once and it’s been a year since that.”
“Draco, wait” tears started coming slowly from Hermione’s eyes.
“He told me I was overreacting, of course, because we weren’t together at the time, so it wasn’t cheating, after all” he kept talking like it was nothing.
“Babe, please” she was sobbing now and trying to hug him tight, already afraid of loosing him… and he wasn’t hugging back.
“At this point, all my work peers were staring at me. Do you remember what I told you was the worst thing ever? Having people pitying me, yeah? Well, I guess I’m rather used to that after lunch today, huh?”
“Draco, I’m begging” Hermione pleaded, between tears “let me explain!”
“EXPLAIN WHAT, GRANGER?” he stood up, exploding “how I was chasing you for months, how I thought you wanted time for you, how I tried to give you everything, even tried to be friends with that fucking stupid little lazy sod?” She wanted to interrupt him for insulting Ron, but knew better, so kept her mouth shut. “Do you know how much I’ve done for you?”
She was crying so hard she couldn’t find it in her to answer yet. She knew she had messed up.
“Have you at least been faithful to me? Where were you when you texted that you were going to work late?”
“Draco, that’s not fair!” Hermione didn’t know how she was talking while crying that much “you said it yourself, when that happened, we weren’t dating.”
“Yeah, that’s what you say. And him. I know better than to take your word now. I feel like I’m nothing to you, you took all I had and destroyed” he was furious and so, so hurt “I hope to never see you again.”
“Draco, wait! Please, wait. I’m sorry, you are right, I should’ve told you before. It was a mistake, I was already in love with you, I was just drunk and he happened to be there. There’s nothing to overlook. You have to believe me, I’m so sorry. I know you deserve more, but it was a stupid mistake, a one night stand, please give me another chance, please” His eyes were closed and he was fighting not to look to her eyes “baby, look at me” she held his face and he opened his eyes, softly “I love you. I’ll make it up. If you want, I’ll even have veritaserum to make you believe me. Just, please, don’t leave me.”
He kept looking at her for some time, still not holding her. She was hugging him alone and it was killing her, but before she could begin to cry again, he broke the silence.
“You want a fucking chance? Fine.” she knew he wasn’t done talking, so she kept waiting “but you have to cut him out of your life”.
“Draco, don’t be like that-“ tears were coming back as fast as they could.
“You have a day to think about it, I’ll be at Nott’s” and just like that, he apparated away.
