Chapter Text
Yoohyeon was in the middle of studying History when she received a text from Yubin.
'So about that question I asked when you came over.'
'Yeah?'
'I asked you if you'd rather spend a week of the holiday with me or spend it alone.'
Oh. She completely forgot about that. Mainly because her head was jumbled up with thoughts and the past. Yubin took the lack of response as Yoohyeon not knowing how to reject her and the blonde sees the three little dots flash across her screen. Before she can think it over, she replies.
'Sure! Sounds fun, where to?'
'I get it if it's too soon, I just suggested it cause I kinda wanted to sightsee and take in some fresh air, not stay locked in my apartment for a week.'
'Oh.'
Yubin replies. Typical Yubin, always mindful of boundaries.
'We can talk it over whenever, it's still some time until the holidays. I just thought we could use some time for ourselves as a way to make up for before.'
As Yoohyeon types and sends out a message of acknowledgement, she tries with all her might to focus back on History but Ancient Greece suddenly lost her interest.
*
"Smooth." Minji said as she hovers over Yubin who was sitting in one of the chairs at the kitchen.
(The layout of Yubin's apartment was the same as Minji's, the kitchen and living room were open, the latter being the first thing you see when you enter, with a corridor next to the kitchen that would lead to doors to the bathroom, bedroom and laundry room.)
Annoyed, Yubin shuts her phone off and chugs her now lukewarm coffee that had been sitting on the table ever since Yubin suddenly messaged Yoohyeon about the invite. Truthfully, she wasn't expecting a reply right away, it was 8am, who, aside from her and Minji, in their right mind would be up at 8am on a weekend? Studying no less?
"What are you doing here? Not that I don't appreciate your company but uh, normal high school students don't usually wake up at this time, let alone come over to their friend's house."
Yubin finishes her coffee and Minji picks up her mug to wash it, the younger muttering a thank you. The older smiles bright, rivaling the sun with its rays that are currently seeping into the living room through the balcony door. "Can't I just hang out with my friend who I consider as my younger sister?"
It's a trap.
Well no duh it's a trap, Minji is genuinely very kind and generous but the smile on her face indicates there being an ulterior motive to her very early morning visit. There's a hint of a smirk, and a smirking Minji spells disaster for Yubin's homebody lifestyle.
"Spit it out, you're not being subtle with that smirk." Yubin calls her out, not rudely, she just prefer for it to be laid out instead of in riddles. "Never one for adventure you, tsk." She good-naturedly clicks her tongue in fake annoyance and sits back down at the table, the dishes were done a while ago, Yubin didn't notice that as she was too busy feeling skeptical about her good friend.
"Make it be educational!" Minji beams.
"You...are suggesting we spend the week off from school to...learn out of our own free will..?" She glares at her bunny-like intruder. While Yoohyeon and Yubin are open to learning and are always curious souls, she's not sure if the girl would want to be reminded of her impending doom in the form of an exam when the holiday is to let them rest their minds and think about the good things as grades aren't all there is.
The other reason Yubin is against that idea is because the two would often meet up at different bookstores just to hangout with each other and nerd out over books. That's actually how they made their first 'hangout spot' once they had come across a bookstore that had stairs leading upwards to a secret hideout spot where you could read, peruse the books, chat and let your legs rest, or even eat some quick snacks as there was also a café near the entrance of the bookstore. Of course, once Yoohyeon started avoiding her, Yubin kept coming in hopes she'd be there. After dozens of times of that, eventually the younger girl came to reminisce, still hoping to maybe one day see her, though her hope grew weaker with every passing day.
"Maybe have a museum date!" Minji says, effectively bringing Yubin back and making her choke on her breath at the last word. "What makes this a date?" She cautiously said after getting herself back together.
***
There truly was no point in trying to go back to History after her chat with Yubin. Which is why she's currently looking for clothes to wear for the trip, but alas, she doesn't like anything she's taken out of her closet that's currently as good as empty, the contents strewn all over the floor and bed. Why is it that she can't find anything good when she has the most clothes out of all the girls who also borrow her clothes but coincidentally forgets to return them-
Her eyes grow wide and feral as she tries to locate her phone that's no doubt covered under mountains of clothing. Yoohyeon's thoughts sometimes disappear before she has time to properly do anything about them. Which is exactly why she decides the best course of action is to dive into the enormous heaps of clothing and yank out article by article, making sure to not get distracted from her mission of finding that damn phone.
Lucky for her, her phone rings and she pinpoints it's location! Unlucky for whoever is calling her, she might not find it in time before the call is forwarded to voice mall. With that spurring her on and becoming an even bigger tornado of chaos for her unfortunate room, she does manage to find it in time before the last ring. While still in the heap of clothes, she answers the phone.
"Kim Yoohyeon speaking!"
"You seem awake for this time of day." Handong replies, deadpan but failing to hide her giggle at her puppy friend being faithful to her spirit animal.
"Oh I just finished wrecking my room to find my phone, I was trying out my clothes to see which I wanted to give away and which I wanted to keep." She surprised herself with that lie, there wasn't really a need to lie when they'd no doubt drill her later on. Then again, it would no longer be a lie if she did do those thing, it'd be more work but she did think it was time to empty her closet a bit and make space for newer, trendier clothing.
"So why are you up and why did you decide to call me? To judge me for my energy levels this early in the day?" She jests, obviously not offended and Handong laughs.
"No, I only ever do that with Bora, sometimes Minji but they're also both busy at this time apparently. Do you have any plans for the holidays?" She asks, even though Yubin had already asked for her opinion in asking Yoohyeon to follow her for the trip.
(Yubin is frozen where she stands, her hands in front of her and on top of each other, almost like a child about to get a scolding for destroying the vase while Handong is sitting at the edge of her bed in silence, thinking over the different possibilities in her head and with none of them being that bad, she looks at the younger girl and sighs.
This scares Yubin cause she very rarely gets Handong's disappointment directed at her specifically, more used to being a spectator of it. The girl on the bed takes pity on her and smiles wide, "That's a decent idea, alone time for you two. I was planning on having all of us go on a trip but that'd be a bit awkward now that I think about it. I can maybe plan it for when you guys get back on your date."
("It's not a date!" Yubin whines, making Handong giggle which in turn makes her whine even more.)
"Yeah actually, partly why I decided to massacre my wardrobe, wanted to find stuff that'd fit the vibes." She's out of the mountain of clothing now, it was getting too warm and humid in there.
"Where are you gonna go?" Handong asks cause Yubin hadn't decided on a place when she brought it up with her, and also because she might plan her trip somewhere close if she can help it.
"I'm not sure yet, for now I'm getting rid of stuff that's gone out of style. Which reminds me to message the group chat to ask for my "borrowed" clothes back..." Her initial plan when diving to look for her phone was completely forgotten when the phone started ringing, since she had to find it before the call dropped.
"I don't think I have any of your stuff...not anymore anyways. Siyeon might have them all. Bora doesn't fit them, no idea why she took those pants when she's several heads shorter than you..." Handong muses, completely seriously. Bora does things none of them expect, like that time she decided to eat Siyeon's Pocky... while the girl was still eating it, resulting in them kissing and the older girl biting the other's lips.
"I heard that you spicy fruit basket!" A squeak comes from, presumably Handong before the call drops.
"Spicy fruit basket..."
"Wait, why was Handong in Bora's house-"
