Chapter Text
“I got you, Gabe!” Scarecrow said with a laugh, flying below his friend who was above him, his large white wings extended wide, shining a glittering white in the sun.
“I-I’m ok!” Gabriel said, smiling as he flapped his wings, holding steady. He…he was flying again!
Scarecrow watched in joy, his heart skipping when he saw the wind blow Gabriel’s hair, his friend laughing brightly. His wings were fully healed. Scarecrow looked around, and just saw white clouds around them, the forest far below. He looked back up, and smiled more when he saw tears om Gabriel’s shining eyes as he flew, pure happiness on his face.
Gabriel flapped his wings again, which caused him to teeter a little to the side, though he caught himself quickly, steading his balance. He laughed, and looked down at Scarecrow who was watching with joyful eyes.
“I’m so proud of you, Gabe!” He yelled above the wind, a genuine wide smile on his face. Gabriel laughed, and lowered a bit so he was closer.
“A-and I’m so proud of you!” He said, watching Scarecrow’s velvet black wings glimmer in the sun, beautiful and soft.
They were both flying…together. Free…
“Let’s go home, Gabe…” Scarecrow said lightly, and Gabriel nodded, wiping the tears from his eyes.
“Yeah…let’s go home…” He replied back, and Scarecrow nodded, turning over to fly a bit faster.
Gabriel laughed, and flapped his wings, catching up with Scarecrow as they raced to the edge of the forest where their home was waiting for them, safe and sound.
They flew side by side, their laughter echoing on the wind as they raced each other, smiling wide with warm hearts the entire way there.
The danger was gone, the storm had passed. And far above the setting sun, above their home, stars began to fill the pastel purple sky. The two kept flying side by side, watching the stars form as they flew past the white fluffy clouds.
They were going home. They were together, a family, unbroken and complete.
And nothing was going to change that.
