Alpha!Korra, Omega!Asami, Canon Compliance, Post Finale, Pregnant Asami, overprotective Korra

Chapter Text

Opal’s cheerful greeting died in her mouth at Korra’s icy stare. “Hi?” Opal tried again, tentatively, but Korra only nodded and entered Opal’s house mumbling something like “hello”.

“What are you doing?” Opal asked as Korra searched the hall and living room for any threat.

“Can I come in now?” Asami, planted in the threshold, asked and just then Opal noticed the omega, who had been behind Korra before.

“Of course, Asami, just—”

“Wait a moment.” Korra’s authoritative tone cut Opal’s sentence.

“Hey!” Bolin appeared from the kitchen, but stopped in his tracks when Korra pointed at him.

“Is there any other entrance to the house?”

“The back yard?” Bolin looked at Opal, but his wife shrugged, as confused as him. Sighing,

Asami entered the living room when Korra disappeared in the kitchen to “check emergency exits”.

“I entered the third semester and she’s freaking out,” Asami offered as an explanation while she helped herself to Opal and Bolin’s comfortable sofa, one hand resting on her prominent belly.

“The doctor said it’s common for sires-to-be, principally the first time.”

Being an alpha herself, Opal nodded in understandment. Bolin whistled. “Please don’t do that when it’s our turn,” he whispered loudly to her.

“Can’t make such promises,” she joked and kissed Bolin’s cheek.

Korra came back and looked between her wife and friends for a moment. “What did you cook, Bolin?” She stopped behind Asami’s couch, one hand on the omega’s shoulder. “Did you use too much spice?”

Asami rolled her eyes. “Korra, I’m fine. I won’t get sick. Actually, I’m starving!” She made to stand up and Korra rounded the couch to help her. “I can do that alone, you know,” Asami commented, but accepted the help.

“I’m not nurturing another life”—Bolin patted his stomach—“but I’m starving too!”

Lunch went on smoothly, and Korra eased at seeing Asami eating well. Opal had prepared the dessert, a typical Zao Fu dish that consisted of flambé cream. It would have been a wonderful idea if Opal had warned Korra about the flames. At the same time Asami smiled in excitement, Korra yelped at the fire and bended the closest water source on top of Asami’s plate. Asami groaned at seeing her juice grossly mangled with her dessert, part of it adorning her hair too.

Opal and Bolin stood and left the kitchen in silence, feeling the tension thickening at each calming breath Asami tried to take.

“Korra,” Asami said, voice cold and emerald eyes burning. “Bend me dry.”

Korra as she was told, but added, “I’m not apologizing for protecting you.”

“What about for ruining my dessert and my hair?”

They entered in a half-whispered argument that was a repetition from the last weeks.

“Korra,” Asami interrupted her wife in the middle of her “Asami shouldn’t drive alone” speech.

“You can’t protect me forever! I’m pregnant, not dying!”

Korra shut up at Asami’s pleading tone. She was ready to deal with Asami’s anger, but not her tears.

“I’m sorry,” Korra confessed. “I’m so worried about you and the baby. And as the Avatar...”

Asami landed a sticky hand—thanks to Korra’s stunt earlier—on Korra’s face to make her look up. “I know how you feel, Korra. I’m scared too.” Blue eyes shone with guilt. “But I need you to trust me, okay?”

With a deep breath, Korra nodded.

“Now please, let’s go home. I need a bath.” Asami rolled her eyes and pointed to herself.

They walked to the living room where Opal and Bolin were not trying to eavesdrop.

“Sorry for everything,” Korra said, her expression and restricted manner showing Asami had forced her to do so.  Opal waved her off and promised another encounter soon.

“It was a pleasure.” Asami accepted Korra’s hand as she led them to the door. “We need to do that a-a-achoo!”

Korra was above her in a second, hands hovering around her pregnant wife.

“Spirits, you good? Are you feverish? Do you want to sit down? I’ll carry you to the car and—”

Opal tried to muffle her giggles, but they escaped through her slim fingers. “Sorry, Korra.” Opal laughed under Korra’s stare. “But she just sneezed.”

“And you got snot in your hand.” Bolin pointed to Korra’s hand, face twisted in a failed attempt to contain his laughter.

Asami couldn't suppress her own giggles and mumbled a last farewell while Korra, grunting under her breath, pulled them to the front door.

Inside the coziness of their satomobile, Asami rested her head on Korra’s shoulder. “I love you.” She turned to kiss the broad shoulder. “You’re going to be a great sire.”

Relenting to a smile, Korra pecked Asami’s lips. “Love you too. But no flamblé until the baby is born.”

“So you want flames near a newborn baby?” Asami teased.

“No flamblé at all,” Korra corrected and kissed her wife.
