Hans and Henry get out of Rattay for some long-overdue alone time. It's been a whole year since they first met, can you believe it? Their lives are so very different now — for better or for worse.
Them having each other certainly falls into the "better" category, though. And, if you think about it, that is all that matters, right?

Summary
Hans’ fingers tremble as he finishes tying the scarf around Henry's head. The urge to reach out and cup Henry’s cheek as he sits there awaiting instructions is almost insurmountable. The scarf slips, and he lets himself indulge on the pretence of making sure Hal doesn’t suffocate within it—just the tiniest brush of his thumbs over cheekbones, enough to sate himself, but sufficiently restrained so that Henry doesn’t wrench the scarf off and start cursing him to the seventh circle of hell.

Hans thinks the only way to get Henry to touch him the way he desperately wants him to is to blindfold them and pretend.
Well, blindfold Henry. Not being able to see his best friend as he touched him was never part of the plan.

So when Hans announces to the slow-brightening horizon that he has grown peckish, it’s with a fervency unsuited to his sleep debt that Henry offers the walnuts from his pouch.
”My hero!” Hans says, immediately moving to fumble through the sachets of herbs and bits and bobs stuffed into the bag at Henry’s hip. “You are a strange man, you know that? Though I suppose I ought to be grateful for your eccentricities, and for the fact that you didn’t supply a kolache from your pocket instead.”
