Summary
Kazuha smiles, something tired, and Heizou reads him effortlessly. If he makes a move to capture him, Kazuha will come in easily. There will be no riots, no signs of struggle, because as much as Heizou may care for Kazuha, it will be nothing compared to the affection Kazuha holds for him in return. Perhaps, in another life, when vulnerability is rewarded and armour is unnecessary, they will allow themselves to love each other the way they wish they could; an all-consuming, inherent, unwavering love.
But they cannot afford it. Not in this life.
In which, Shikanoin Heizou watches him leave.

Summary
“Of course, My Lord.” Thoma bows, ever the exemplary servant, then he straightens. His tone is helplessly earnest when he says, “Is there anything else you need?”
Yes, comes the automatic response. I need you to stay with me, if only for a moment. But he cannot afford to say it, not to Thoma, so instead, he says—
“No.” Ayato smiles, softening the edges of his eyes and his voice. The last thing he needs is an upset Thoma. “That is all, Thoma. Thank you.”
In which, Kamisato Ayato gets a taste of what it is like to come undone.

Summary
A hand wrapped around Chuuya’s wrist, holding him in place. Chuuya’s breath caught in his throat, his heart resting high by his collarbones, and he could feel every stuttering beat rattle against his skin. Chuuya turned, slowly, his eyes meeting Dazai’s.
“Don’t go,” Dazai said, his grip around Chuuya’s wrist tightening for a split second before loosening once more. There was no ill intent behind the gesture, not yet, but Chuuya knew from experience that this would only be the first of many. This was an old game, an intricate dance done on thin wires with razor blade shoes.
Chuuya didn’t remember when it started the first time, only knew that somewhere between the moments when they met to the day he trusted Dazai to undo Corruption, they had fallen into a semblance of a game. Not as Soukoku—no, being Double Black had nothing at all to do with this game—but simply as Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya. Their need for balance, for the highs of adrenaline, caging them within the boundaries of need until they had nothing to destroy but each other.
In which, it will never be enough.

Summary
He should have known it would inevitably happen with Childe, too. Somehow, somewhere along the way, something has changed between them. It began with late nights in the tavern spent leaning closer to each other as they talked shit about the drunken patrons under their breaths, and it ended with Childe casually waltzing into the Dawn Winery, having been let in by Adelinde, acting as if he owned the damn place.
(Diluc pretends something in him doesn’t ache at the thought of that. Maybe, just maybe, if he plays his cards right, he can come home to that sight every day. He doesn’t, though. He folds all his cards and tucks them away under his vest, close to his heart. It isn’t enough. It will never be enough. And he will only have himself to blame.)
In which, Diluc Ragnvindr has to lose him.

Summary
Kaeya swallows and withdraws his hand as if touching Childe hurts him. Because it does. It hurts him. The knowledge that he can have this now, but he cannot make it last sits sour at the back of his mouth, tasting like bile. What they have here, this cannot last. It is only a matter of who will leave first.
(Kaeya. It’s always Kaeya. He will leave first, again and again, and again, even while his heart bleeds and shatters because he will not let himself be Childe’s ruination. Childe will hurt and perhaps he will grieve, but he will learn to live again—to live without him—and he will learn to love all over again. And Childe will live the life that he deserves to live, and Kaeya will learn to let him go.)
In which Kaeya Alberich will always be the one to leave.
