“… I wasn’t-” Arthur protests weakly but Charles just sighs and Arthur presses his lips together, feeling a bit like a scolded child, “You don’t gotta listen to me whinin’ ‘bout my problems.”
“They’re also my problems,” Charles reminds him quietly, “I don’t know what’s going to happen either.”

“I can move back-”
“John,” Charles says quietly, then shuffles a little closer, “You’re fine.”
John studies him carefully then glances at Charles’ arm.
“It’s fine, doesn’t even hurt anymore,” Charles murmurs, “Just settle down.”
John slowly reaches out for Charles and wraps his arm over the older man’s waist, leaning his head down against Charles’ shoulder.
Arthur meets his eyes over John’s shoulder and Charles stares right back.
They’ve been in this game for awhile, Arthur trying to act tough and Charles challenging him.

Summary

“I… It’s been a long time,” Arthur says, barely above a whisper, “Since I shared a bed with someone.”
Charles hums quietly and shifts the blankets a bit.
“I’m still cold,” Charles says quietly, studying the older man.
Arthur’s cheeks are already pink from being wind-chapped but the older man’s face flushes even deeper.
And Arthur slowly turns to face him.
“How d’you wanna-?” Arthur whispers and his fingertips graze Charles’ forearm.
“Just… Come closer,” Charles says with a bit of amusement, “Then… Whatever’s comfortable.”
