  The words were spoken rather sardonically by the stranger who happened to witness the possessive display he put on when returning to his wife's side, and he responded with an equally potent dose of sarcasm. 

  “Not a bad idea, then I wouldn’t have to leave her to go to the loo, either.”

  He wasn’t serious—at least not at the time—but the memory of those words lingered in his mind, and over time, the sarcastic statement began to sound more and more like a suggestion.
