Summary
Mihawk breaks the date—shriveled, salt crusted, unseemly, like refuse—down the center with his kogatana. It spreads in fine grained paste down the acrylic surface of the board, obscuring the blue, glistening threads that weave delicately in the creases of the petrified Alabastan ironwood, its ostentatious stamp discolored.
The translucent skin, veins shrunken to pinworms of blackness in the suggestion of leather flattens against the blade, the salt crystals pebbling off its surface. There is a dull, strange awe lighting below his sternum, even now. He thumbs at the substance, taking it into his mouth.

Summary
“Oh, hello,” came the smarmy greeting moments later, so pleased Mihawk couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
“Good evening,” he sighed, already regretting his desperate choice. “I wonder, do you have any advice regarding children?”
Shanks choked on the other end of the line, the bulbous eyes of the den-den crinkling with laughter. “This must be a bad connection, Hawk Eyes. Could’ve sworn you said children.”
“I did,” Mihawk confirmed wearily. “It seems I’ve acquired two.”
“Two?!” Shanks guffawed, his voice rebounding around the room. “Hey, fellas, get a load of this—”

Summary
“You ever wondered if the next World’s Greatest Swordsman is even alive yet? Or if maybe they’re just a kid right now and can’t hold a sword?”
“No.”
It’s a foolish question and Mihawk almost says as much. He’s spent decades honing his skill with the blade and to imagine that a mere child could do the same with enough speed and dedication to wrest the title from Mihawk is laughable. The next World’s Greatest Swordsman will need to beat Mihawk while he has his youth and his strength, not simply the luck to duel him as an old man.
Shanks laughs. He lays reclined in the sand, turning his head to the side to look at Mihawk where he sits stiffly beside him.
“Well, maybe you should put a little more faith in the next generation, eh?”
