Five kisses

Summary:

Five kisses and a declaration of love.

Work Text:

The first time he kissed her was caused by accident. She didn't actually intend to run right into his arms like that. They were both in the library. They were reaching for the same book. She got it first and turned too quickly, stumbling into his arms. "Careful there, sweetheart " he spoke softly. She looked up into his hazel eyes and shivered. "Cold, Granger?" he looked back at the other students. Then he pulled his sweater over his head. He looped it over her shoulders and tied the arms loosely together. "There. I'll grab it later, yeah?" He pecked her on the cheek, winked playfully and walked away. That was third year.

In fourth year, everyone was excited about the Tri-wizard Tournament happening right there in their school. When the news of the Yule Ball was announced, she just rolled her eyes and kept on studying. She knew she wasn't too high on the list of Must Ask Out girls. That was where all the prettier girls resided. She knew she was pretty but not breathtaking. So being asked to the ball by none other than Viktor Krum caught her totally off guard. Before she could think it through, she said yes. She was happy when Harry finally asked the Patil twins out for himself and Ron. What she wasn't pleased about was fighting with the two of them that evening after the ball. As she sat there crying, an arm curled around her. "Hey, now. None of that, Granger! You're ruining your makeup. You look very beautiful tonight." she looked up in surprise and he kissed her lightly. She smiled at him. "There, a kiss for a beautiful girl. Feeling better?" he asked. She smiled as she wiped the tears away.

Fifth year was the first year to ever make her seriously dread going to class. She HATED Dolores Umbridge! Why the Ministry wanted to stick their noses into the curriculum was beyond her. It didn't help when Ron discovered the marks on Harry's arm and pointed them out! She tried and tried to get him to tell Dumbledore, McGonagall or even Madame Pomfrey! He refused to even consider it. That's when she decided they needed to learn how to defend themselves. If Umbridge wouldn't teach them, Harry could! He had the most fighting experience, to date. Even after all that training though, she was still taken down by a more experienced wizard. As she laid in the infirmary that night, she was scared. Madame Pomfrey hadn't been completely confident that she would make it, there for a while. The door opened and closed, seemingly by itself. She figured it was Harry and Ron under the invisibility Cloak. As it turned out, it wasn't. He sat down on the edge of her bed. "Oh, Granger. You seriously have a gift for worrying a guy, you know that right?" He shook his head, leaned down and kissed her gently. "Please try to keep from getting hurt any more, yeah?"

Sixth year was their darkest year yet. People were disappearing right and left. Whole families were being hit and wiped out. Mr. Ollivander's wand shop was closed, forcing the first years to buy their wands elsewhere. Harry played cat and mouse with Draco that whole year, in between learning about Horcruxes and trying to get a specific memory from their potions teacher. Hermione was torn between helping him, balancing her homework and Prefect duties and being heartbroken over Ron choosing Lavender over her. Of course she'd never explicitly said she'd like to date Ron but she was always nervous and fluttery around him that year. Even with Katie being struck by an unknown curse and Ron being poisoned, she wasn't sure why Harry was so worried about Malfoy. That night, when all hell broke loose, then she finally understood. Standing there, staring at the dead body of their Headmaster, she was overcome with fear like she'd never felt before. In all the confusion of the students surrounding her, she felt a pair of arms slide around her waist. She looked up and he kissed her heatedly. "Don't be scared. Just be careful, very, very careful. They'll be after you." After those mysterious words, he faded into the crowd.

It was seventh year. She hadn't told her parents she wasn't going back to school. She hadn't told them anything about that last week of school. What she had done was for their own good. She knew they would possibly never forgive her for this. If she was even able to reverse it. She took away every memory they ever had of her. Then she sent them out of the country. She, Harry and Ron were going hunting for the Horcruxes that had to be destroyed. It was the only way to end this war. After all their misadventures they wound up back at Hogwarts. It was the final battle. They were fighting furiously and it seemed to last forever. When Voldemort fell and everyone started cheering, she stood there tiredly. A shadow fell over her and she looked up. She was pulled into his arms and held tightly. He kissed her like he was never going to let her go. "Merlin's sake, Granger! What did I tell you about scaring me? I love you!" As the crowd watched in complete and total shock. Theodore Nott laid claim to his witch, Hermione Granger.

Later on, cuddled on a bench, waiting for Harry and Ron, he kissed her slowly. "You deserve to be kissed, Granger, very often and I'm going to be the only one kissing you!" Theo told her firmly.
