Tired of being ignored, Reki sits down next to Langa and bumps their shoulders together. Light blue eyes look up at him, seemingly seeing him for the first time today. “Dude, what is up with you today?”
Langa shrugs, his fingers pulling idly at the throat guard he’d been forced to wear since he’d presented. The stiff leather material itches where it rubs along his scent glands, and it always makes him feel like he’s choking. How is he supposed to tell Reki what’s wrong? How is he supposed to shatter all the dreams they’ve shared so far? In the end, he supposes, he doesn’t really have a choice so delaying the matter won’t do him any good. He doesn’t realize that he’s been staring off until Reki bumps his shoulder again.
“Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out. Just talk to me.” Reki’s voice is light, almost playful, but Langa can smell the worry coming off him even through his scent patches. His normally warm, earthy smell is sour and wet.
Langa pins his eyes to the skateboard between his feet, so he doesn’t have to look at those worried, amber eyes. “I’ve been promised to an alpha.”
