He doesn't remember the conversation he had with this fucker in the taxi, but he remembers exactly what he heard that afternoon at the hotel and how it felt like the pressure of a single question made him shatter. “You haven’t been out at all in almost two weeks! That’s great, Angel! Did you quit? Oh, you can finally focus on your redemption! You can do it for good this time!”
There was hope in the words but they went straight through his chest like spears. They didn’t know. He’d been too caught up in his shame and his craving to even start explaining the depths of the shithole he was stuck in. How could he put it into words without wanting to crawl out of his skin?
